Overall Satisfaction with Mailchimp

As a solo founder, I have used Mailchimp to manage subscriber lists and send emails to email subscribers, beta app users and customers of SaaS apps. In general sending emails has been relatively easy but creating and using custom forms has left much to be desired.
  • Design basic emails.
  • Set up basic settings for an outgoing email.
  • Creating custom form is painstaking.
  • Trying to use your own JavaScript with their API does not work.
  • The free tier was great to use.
  • With newer plans I had to adjust usage out of Mailchimp.
I am using Drip for my automated drip email system, and while Drip has heavily increased pricing, I have been grandfathered in to keep a positive ROI. To simply send emails, Mailgun provides a great solution to sending transactional emails via their mail API. Mailgun has maintained a reasonable pricing structure since I joined.
Mailchimp seems to be fairly easy to use, from both the novice and experts. However, it isn’t too advanced to do custom work.
I have not used Mailchimp as an all-in-one system. With their current interface and pricing structure, I use them for simple list building and basic email sending to those lists.
I have been able to send emails at a very good success through their system. However you seem to run into issues as soon as you try and do anything custom or advanced.
Mailchimp could be best suited for those who have very simple needs. If you can collect email and user information through a basic medium that does not need to be deeply integrated and you are simply sending emails to the list of those that have subscribed, Mailchimp should work very well.
