Overall Satisfaction with NetSuite ERP

I use NetSuite ERP for all our financial activities - GL, Income Statement, AR, AP, Bank and Credit Card accounts, etc. We rely on NetSuite ERP for all our financial reporting and tracking. After a bad experience with a prior software, we hoped NetSuite ERP would provide accurate financial data and a more user-friendly data entry experience.
  • User-Friendly Interface
  • Fairly easy report creation
  • Easy to add/edit accounts and transactions
  • They do not offer both Cash and Accrual reporting - you have to pick one and stick with it.
  • They do not have a recommended credit card processing module that will sync with a processor to process cards through NetSuite ERP. When we looked in to setting one up, it was going to cost us $500 monthy fee, not including transaction fees, just to have the sync capability.
  • They do not have automatic accounting periods - you have to manually create new accounting periods every year or it will post all the new transactions into the prior year.
  • In my experience, the Match Bank Data tries to auto-create rules every time you make a match and you cannot turn this off even if you uncheck the box, so you will get hundreds or so rules created which you have to manually delete if you don't want garbage cluttering your account.
  • In my experience, their Bank Feed module fails constantly and they need a third party to fix it, but it doesn't get fixed and they don't solve the problem. So it is not a functioning feature.
  • In my opinion, the Match Bank Data/Reconcile feature is more cumbersome than necessary with extra steps that should not be necessary.
  • I think it makes things more complicated as I have to take our accrual numbers and make journal entries to convert them to a cash basis in our second "cash accounting" book that I created.
  • The Match Bank Data feature doesn't work well so it is more cumbersome for us to use.
  • The software costs and the additional costs for users are quite high which decreases our ROI.
In my opinion, QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise edition has better accounting functionality than NetSuite ERP and can handle both cash and accrual reporting on even the most basic edition. I think NetSuite ERP provides some better functionality than Intacct but again doesn't handle both cash and accrual reporting and the banking import feature doesn't work. I think Quickbooks handles sharing data with your CPA better than both NetSuite and Intacct.

Would you buy NetSuite ERP again?

No

As I have repeatedly stated, for core financial processing users have some basic issues - bank feeds failing, Match Bank Data module is cumbersome and unwieldy, ability to pull cash and accrual reports not available, etc.
The support personnel I have dealt with were always very friendly and happy to help; it was not always possible however, as in the Financial feed import module which apparently is controlled by a third party whom i assume refuses to fix a product that doesn't work, since I've requested that this be fixed for a year now and it has not been resolved. I don't think it's the support personnels job to fire the contractor, but I find no excuse for the Oracle organization using a third party who provides a broken product. You will find the support personnel to be friendly and helpful when they can be.
In my experience, it is well-suited to basic small low-level accounting. I think if you are a very small business with some basic accounting needs and do not need both cash and accrual reporting this would work. However, I think the price point is well above what a company should pay for basic accounting. If you need more advanced accounting, in my experience it can't keep up well, and it will not provide you with both cash and accrual reports. In my opinion, it is priced for a much more advanced software than what it needs, perhaps because they focus on non-essential upgrades and areas that don't pertain to core financial activities, such as advanced inventory management, Amazon shipping label sync, multiple foreign (non-us) taxes, manufacturing updates - for businesses needing strong financial software that do not need ten country tax rates, manufacturing processes, and advanced inventory tracking, this provides no value while leaving standard accounting functions pretty basic and lacking.

We have the premium support, but not the ACS support. The Advanced Customer Support at $200 per hour with a 10-hr per month minimum did not proved $24,000 per year worth of service. Their regular support personnel are courteous and caring and when something doesn't work they are the ones to take care of you anyway.
I was trying to set it up for our customers to view their account with us in NetSuite, and was having difficulty; they helped me get the process working correctly right away (same day) and we also had an issue with customer credit card numbers, and they also helped me with that same day. When possible they provide quick and very competent support.
