Overall Satisfaction with Raiser's Edge NXT

We started using NXT a year ago and they are constantly rolling out new updates! When we started, the usability was limited, but now our fundraisers love it! There are still some things (...a lot of things) you can't do in NXT that you still need to access classic/database view for, but what NXT does it does well. It's mostly being used for looking up donor information, and entering/reviewing actions at this point though it does have more functionality.
  • Adding new actions - I would say actions are the best part of NXT. Before, I struggled to get our staff to enter actions and now they come to me telling me how easy it is!
  • Portfolio management - the personalized workstation gives you fast access to everyone in the fundraiser's portfolio, along with suggested actions and some basic metrics.
  • Quick donor look up - it has a smart search that is so much more intuitive than the classic views. You can also re-arrange the tiles to suit your needs.
  • Doesn't do everything - most updates still need to be done in classic view.
  • Built to please everyone - meaning there are a lot of pieces that just don't work for us that are meant for others... and some things we wish would work better.
  • Rapidly changing - this is both a great feature... and a struggle! It's difficult to stay on top of the updates to support your team.
  • Admins don't have a use for it - One struggle I've had is all of my database admin's work and data entry more or less takes place in the classic view. So when my staff comes to me with NXT questions, I frequently struggle to answer them.
  • Operational Efficiency
  • Increased scalability due to cloud deployment
We have increased our operational efficiency by making it easier to create and access actions! We have had a number of confounding factors that don't allow us to see if NXT has increased our revenue, and our IT expenditure has stayed the same since we have always been hosted. One other thing that has come with our use of NXT is that we have increased our scalability of event and donation forms! NXT comes with Online Express, which has given us MUCH greater flexibility when it comes to event registration and donations and we have been able to expand both to use around the agency as a whole.
We use NXT, Raiser's Edge 7, Online Express, and Blackbaud Merchant Services. We also have Target Analytics, though we don't use it much. We recently got Blackbaud Mobile Pay as well. It is exciting how each of the pieces fits together well. We've benefited from this by keeping all of our gift information combined in one place (as much as possible) making some of our detective work to see where the gifts have come from much easier.
We already had RE 7, so our decision was between staying with RE 7 and upgrading to NXT. We did not consider any other products.
NXT is great if you have a team of fundraisers out working with donors. They have quick access to all of the donor's information and it is so simple to enter the action to document the interaction even when out of the office. It is strongly suited to the needs of fundraisers.
NXT is less great for data entry... if your job is focused on data entry of any type, you will likely not use NXT at all for at least another couple of years as that all must be done in classic view.
