As stated in previous comments, the software platform has the ability to offer a variety of services. It is well suited for all organizations and events. With that said, no software is perfect for everyone and the user should take in consideration both functionality and investment. The platform we used lacked some "ease of use" administrative functions and was not ideal for marketing our sponsors.

eTapestry

eTapestry is well suited to very large orgs which have money to spend and don't mind wasting some money on people who don't open emails, etc. It is less appropriate for smaller scale organizations, I think, since they usually have less money and won't necessarily be using the fundraising functionality very much

Pros

501 Auctions

  • Attendee List Maintenance: The platform provides an easy-to-use attendee list. Modifying the information is a piece of cake.
  • Attendee Check In/Out: Highly recommend the software for their quick and easy access to attendance entries and information.
  • Technical and Customer Support: Our representative was very knowledgeable and was able to assist us rather quickly when prompted by email or telephone call.

  • Capture donor information
  • Track donations
  • Track if an individual is a donor and/or volunteer.

Cons

501 Auctions

  • Modifying Client Payments: There were too many steps to take when modifying a client payment in the system. Although we could complete the task, one would expect a single step instead of multiple steps from a variety of page views.
  • Adding or Modifying a Single item: You would expect the platform to bring you back to the same item for any further modification or review. Rather, the platform took you to the top of the page was rather annoying especially when you have hundreds of auction items.
  • Knowledge Base: The platform offers a knowledge base if you know where to locate it. Rather than clicking on a link within the header or footer of the software, we were forced to locate some original emails from the developer which contained a link for the knowledge base. There should be no reason for hiding access to information.
  • Sponsor Marketing: Most events if not all of them, are financially successful because of sponsorship revenues. It is extremely important to market these sponsors (or large donors) on the platform. The software does a poor job in emphasizing these sponsors.

Due to all of the things described in this review, we just decided not to renew eTapestry. Users were rebelling, which led to duplicative records and mass emails that go to the same people twice. It became a real problem for us in terms of staff satisfaction with the tools available to them and in terms of maintaining good database hygiene. We couldn't afford to stay because of these factors

eTapestry is not software supported so it can be accessed anywhere. Just be sure to have the access key because you cannot login on a different computer for security reasons without an administrator approving it.

The product does what it is supposed to, although there are downsides. There are positive and negatives for every product. This is less expensive alternative for a small organization tracking minimum information.

The eTapestry support team is quick to respond, willing to help, willing to followup and overall very helpful. They have always walked me step by step through questions I have or processes I need to learn more about. The chat support option is very convenient and I always end with a positive experience. The customer/client support is something eTapestry should pride itself on.

In person training is always helpful for a new product however I think that the online tutorials would do just fine.

The online tutorials were easy to follow and explained in detail steps. I was able to put together an organization SOP for best practices in case I was not in the office or no longer there.

The organization as fairly happy with the implementation in that the data was all in the right places. However as they continued to grow, they outgrew eTapestry's functions.

I have used Raiser's Edge, CiviCRM, Access, and Salesforce, along with some homemade products not worth mentioning. Five years ago, eTapestry was a good and affordable alternative to these options. I no longer think that applies. I would probably still prefer it to CiviCRM. If you are willing to invest in customization, CiviCRM and Salesforce could be good alternatives. Raiser's Edge used to be one of the best products on the market--it was particularly valuable if you were running direct marketing campaigns and needed to do testing. The reporting was excellent. As we've shifted to more cloud-based solutions, I'm curious to see how it has adapted. I haven't worked with it in a long time

The product overall is not too bad but I would not suggest for a large nonprofit organization.

Return on Investment

  • All software platforms enhance ROI and save time and money. Not sure if this software was better than others.

eTapestry

  • It was aligned with our fundraising model (though that is no longer the case), which directly supported and guided our fundraising efforts, to great success.
  • It significantly reduced the amount of time spent laboring over grant reports that sometimes ask for very complicated financial updates.
  • Its mass update tools allowed us to clean our data ourselves, instead of paying for extra data services from eTap/Blackbaud.
  • Its mass communication tools allowed us to save money and consolidate our data.
