Adobe Acrobat DC

Adobe Acrobat DC is an essential part of every office's software toolkit - the ability to easily create and distribute information in an easily opened yet secure format is invaluable. I don't really see who wouldn't be able to find use for Acrobat. There are even some really powerful pieces of functionality that we don't use such as OCR reading that I can imagine being incredibly useful.

Very well suited for small to large scale signature sharing between multiple parties. We use this for our closings of large-scale private equity mergers and acquisitions and all sides appreciate the efficiency and ease of use that is so typical to DocuSign's products -- truly the leader in the eSignature industry.

Pros

  • I use it to create form fillable templates from Word Documents that enable us to save paper and transition our membership forms and progress reports to a digital method.
  • After scanning sensitive materials, it's makes redacting sensitive information or blanking out non-relevant text on a document page simple.
  • When our faculty needs books scanned, it's really easy to crop scans into neater, cleaner looking documents that are better sized and omit any dark sections form the scan platen.
  • We work with a lot tenure review files that require statements and documentation form many sources, Acrobat DC is great at dragging and dropping, then merging documents into a single file.

Cons

  • When clicking "edit" in a PDF document it would be nice if DC would open automatically if you already have a license to use it.
  • It would be nice to have a cleaner interface to add images.
  • Working with text is a bit awkward and would be more efficient to have the window for font and size more accessible.

The product is a great tool for a remote workforce. As the company gets bigger, adding users to the account can be rather expensive. We considering providing read/sign only access for certain individuals and providing full access to other users as necessary to reduce costs.

I'd give them a 10, but there has been 1 or 2 small cases that seemed to fall to the wayside, but I was able to call them up and get them resolved. We were having a bad implementation night (after midnight) and we needed assistance from Docusign. They were able to get an engineer to help us in the early morning hours

Until you get the hang of it, I recommend doing several internal tests before sending a document to a client. As I mentioned earlier, you have to go through a bit of trial and error at first to verify that the workflow works as expected.

Alternatives Considered

By comparison Acrobat DC has an easier interface and is much more compatible with other products. It also integrates flawlessly with other Adobe products that we use on a regular basis in our department. For this reason, Acrobat DC was the superior choice.

As DocuSign is the industry leader and our IT, Legal and Finance teams had all leveraged it previously we did not evaluate other tools. I highly recommend DocSign
