Captora

If you want to quickly create large numbers of pages across a lot of keyword groups, I have no idea how you would do it unless you used a tool like Captora.

Pros

  • Can combine various digital platforms in just one view.
  • The speed with which it pulls historical data.
  • Very appealing visuals and switching between trended view and ranked view.

  • Captora's support is great. We have quarterly review meetings with the Captora team and they push us to do more with the platform.
  • The UX has been improved greatly since we started using it.
  • We are ranking high on a number of keywords I wouldn't have expected, and Captora allows us to experiment with new keyword groups without touching our main site.

Cons

  • Because it is a web interface, sometimes it's just slow. This could be on the user's side, or on Adobe's side, but it does get annoying when reports or dashboards take a long time to load.
  • A lot of the things I use AA for I learned myself as it was pretty intuitive, but there are many other features that I didn't really understand what they were for or how to utilize them.

  • Would be great to get integrated reports to show how our pages are performing, end-to-end, across all funnel areas.
  • Some of our pages are not pretty, which is mostly on us. Would be great if Captora has some kind of page effectiveness score to help us improve our high traffic pages.

Usability

It has amazing functionalities but the usability is still far from friendly. You have to really want to use the tool to learn how it works and we've had several cases of people who are not as comfortable with data and reporting who just gave up using it because they can't understand how to.

For the most part, Adobe SiteCatalyst reports work ok, but there are cases in which reports take a long time to return. These cases are usually when too much data has been stored in Conversion Variables (eVars).

I have had many clients that are not thrilled with some aspects of the support. I think the actual day-to-day technical support (ClientCare) is great, but I have heard (and experienced) complaints about the the longer-term services (initial implementation, account management).

In-Person Training

Myself and others have found the in-person training ok, but not outstanding. Trainers are good at explaining how to use the product features, but sometimes lack "real-world" experience on how to use the product as they are people who have often not previously been web analysts. There is also a shortcoming in company-provided training on advanced uses of the product. The implementation training is very good.

Implementation

The most difficult thing I experienced with SiteCatalysts implementation was the updating of tags on secure areas of the client's website that required another department to program and implement. If a development department is unfamiliar with how SC is implemented on other areas of the website, reporting will be affected as the two implementations won't communicate correctly.

Alternatives Considered

Adobe Analytics and Google Analytics are most often compared. Google Analytics has become a favorite for ease and cost. But Adobe Analytics still is the most advanced for robust enterprise implementation. I recommend GA for smaller clients and Adobe Analytics when it is the legacy system or a much larger organization that has the internal resources to manage the software.
