Adobe Marketing Cloud

If you have a rather large budget and/or several clients to take advantage of the AMC, you would likely benefit from its all-in-one solutions. There are a myriad of excellent tools for digital marketing professionals to take advantage of within the suite, and creating a campaign becomes much more manageable for collaboration and execution through to reporting thanks to the suite's vertically integrated nature.

Pardot

Pardot is NOT a CRM software, its marketing automation. I think that a lot of people confuse the two (including some of my colleagues). Pardot has some CRM type functions in it that can be very helpful and of course it does have the ability to connect to your CRM (as some of our offices do). So you would need to purchase the CRM and the marketing automation program like Pardot together, which can be expensive.

Pros

  • Adobe Marketing Cloud has very detailed analytics outputs, assuming you have set your campaigns and assets up correctly.
  • While the implementation of Adobe Marketing Cloud happened a few years ago and was a lengthy process, the attention to detail and around the clock service of the implementation and success teams was greatly appreciated by us. We have been seeing the effects of a job well done by them for years now.
  • Adobe Marketing Cloud allows us to manage all of our targeted campaigns, emails, social media, on-site ads, etc. all in one place.

  • Templates - Pardot provides templates for both emails and landing pages that are easy to setup to slightly customize. If you prefer to completely customize your email or landing page template you can do so by manually entering the HTML and CSS code.
  • Automation Rules - Automation rules are actions that can be setup for any number of tasks which you want Pardot to automate. Automation Rules really help us because we use them for things like identifying competitors, current customers, countries outside our product offering, sorting companies into industry specific drip emails, and a lot more. This id definitely one of the better features with Pardot.
  • Campaign Managment - Pardot integrates with Google Analytics so we can see all of our online campaigns in Pardot and track their activity. You can also run reports on them and filter by date or other key factors. We have a lot of campaigns and Pardot makes it easy to quickly glance at one or more importantly report on them.

  • The analytics platform (old Omniture.) Not so friendly. There is a higher learning curve if we compare with other platforms in the segment.
  • Sometimes the integration with Adobe Media Optimization and Analytics has a big delay.

Although a powerful tool, Google Analytics has been catching up in capabilities and is much simpler to use.As analytics move to the spotlight, more sections in a company want to have access to it. However, creating straightforward reports/dashboards and sharing them with different groups is not a strength of Adobe Marketing Cloud.

There have been a couple of service incidents over the past few months. I'm not sure if it has to do with Pardot integrating their infrastructure with ExactTarget. However, they responded well with proactive communication and a debrief as to what happened.

There are various connectors to the product to other services (SFDC, Google Analytics, Google AdWords, Bit.ly, Social Accounts, etc.). They all seem to sync very well and frequently

I have not found a way to get immediate support when needed, and submitted tickets often take a day or so to get an initial response.

The trainers at the Pardot user conference (Elevate and Connections) were very knowledgeable and presented the material well. Again, the content was targeted to more of a new user audience, and was not really relevant for folks who had been using the product for 2+ years.

When brought on board you get an implementation specialist who provides you a timeline & tasks to be completed. We received 30 mins per week for a screen share to get all of those questions answered and he was very responsive to email replies with screencasts showing my faults or misconfigures.

It's a SaaS tool so implementation of the product is a few clicks on your end. Connections to other services are pretty simple and straightforward. Again they have documentation with images walking you through the process.

Alternatives Considered

In comparison to other services, Adobe is particularly robust, and the platform is better suited to customers with a high level of maturity in the digital environment, who need a platform to overcome and solve day-to-day problems.

We selected Pardot because of Salesforce's reputation and because the interface was much more intuitive/modern than the other systems. We knew little about the features or how to compare them across platforms.
