If your website is lighter in traffic and you have the money to pay for this software, it is good for serving ads and targeting user segments. But if you are comfortable with doing this process manually and have a good development team to help you, it would be better to save your investment.

My experience is only within B2B. Great technology to use for B2B marketing to named accounts. I recommend working with their customer success team during implementation

Pros

  • Quickly loads the URL of the site you are A/B testing
  • Allows you to select your user group from pre-installed commonly tested user groups, or create your own test group.
  • Allows you to quickly create mock-ups of the A/B examples to test.

  • Demandbase is a reverse IP technology which plugs into your website and maps a visitor on your website to large enterprises (in real-time) and reveals crucial attributes such as industry, size, revenue, location etc. They have improved their match rate in the US from 16-20% to 33-35% in the US. Outside of the US the match rate is low, around 10%. This is most useful for a B2B company. If you use the demandbase technology on your website then you can tell apart the visits coming from your potential or existing client companies and serve them better. It opens up a world of possibilities of learning about what products and services your future or existing clients are interested in and what kind of support they are looking for - by marrying web analytics data with Demandbase.

Cons

  • User interface needed a lot of work, in particular with the use of MBoxes. This has supposedly been improved upon though with the latest release.
  • To build out specific segments required direct knowledge of how to write javascript, which isn't in the wheelhouse of our marketing team.
  • Creating offers required direct knowledge of html.

  • This technology only works for visits emerging from large enterprises. If the visitor is accessing your website from outside of his/her company network (e.g. working from home and using an ISP) then you can not identify those visits. Also, if there is IP-spoofing used by some large/mid-size corporations then you can get falsified data.
  • Same logic holds for small or micro businesses where the business uses an ISP (internet service provider such as Comcast or AT&T) to browse your website then those visits can not be mapped back to a particular small/micro business.

In-Person Training

The instructor that came to train us was awesome and this training was very useful. I would recommend it for anyone who is going to be using this software. I only mark it lower because it is an added expense to an already expensive product, and a lot of the training covered the "Target" portion of the software (which again, we didn't use)

Online Training

The training was very easy to understand, however it would have been more useful to my development team than me. It was also primarily over-the-phone, which is never as easy to follow as in-person. We ended up scheduling and paying for an in-person training session to supplement the online/phone training because it wasn't helpful enough.

Webtrends Optimize was on the list. Ultimately, my previous experience with Adobe T&T led us to make the decision to use it.

Demandbase is a little more targeted at B2B companies. You can see this in the marketing customizations that they provide by allowing companies to advertise specifically based on the target-company type, size, and market. Additionally, Demandbase has very good consultants that provide very valuable insight to increase the sales in a company to their full potential, regardless of the stage of marketing research and sales in a company.
