    • Some functions in Laserfiche Forms makes it hard for the average user to use such as formatting how you want a telephone number or horizontal fields.
    • CSS and Java Script make it harder for the average person to be able to make the forms the way they want. Laserfiche Answers helps but is time consuming.

    I am confident that Atlassian can come with additional and innovative macros and functions to add value to Confluence. In 6 months, Atlassian transformed a good collaborative tools into a more comprehensive system that can help manage projects and processes, as well as "talk" with other Atlassian products like Jira. We are in fact learning more about Jira to evaluate a possible fit to complement our tool box.

    Confluence can - and in my personal opinion, it will - be a bit hard to use in the first moment. Atlassian is a great company and is eager to help you with any question you have, though. The interface seems to be a bit clumsy at first but the customization options are enough to make it easier and simpler. In general, Confluence is easy to use when you understand what each section does, but this can take a while.

    Laserfiche is a very easy product to use on both a technical and end-user level. This makes it readily incorporated into an organization. It does require planning and experience to avoid pitfalls, but it is the rare product that our end users have adapted to so quickly. In a short few years, our organization has become heavily reliant on Laserfiche and has re-shaped the way we architect our systems and solutions.Laserfiche has excellent documentation and training for both technical and business users. And finally, they have a very capable professional services arm.

    I am very satisfied with Laserfiche. I have found that certain larger jobs may are slow. This may also be related to our infrastructure environment. We have been able to tune Laserfiche to increase performance on larger jobs.

    Pages load very quickly, which makes it useful for quickly obtaining information. The search functionality is also very quick and is able to parse through all of the documents to provide the most relevant results for the query. Other information based software gets bogged down, but so far Atlassian Confluence maintains its performance.

    Performance, of course, is largely dependent on the underlying environment. Laserfiche does its part with multi-threading, taking advantage of multi-core servers on scanning, workflows, and bots. A SQL-Server back-end is suitable for small to medium-sized company, but may not scale to large, where Oracle would be the better choice. Workflows can be poorly written and perform recursive work slowing down the system. It's better to run batch type workflows at night when possible.

    I have never had to wait for help from Laserfiche. If I cannot find the answer online, I can easily send an email to a customer support representative. I have always been helped the same day and my questions have always been resolved. The Empower conference is always a great learning opportunity and the online resources and webinars are top-notch.

    Alternatives Considered

    Confluence

    I haven't use any other software that I could compare to AtlassianConfluence. The closest one would be Sharepoint, but it's a different beast. Sharepoint has more feature, but it's a lot harder to use and understand. Furthermore like many Microsoft solutions the UI is terrible and very difficult to understand sometimes. Atlassian Confluence is just plain easy to use.

    Laserfiche offered me a free trial and I found it more cost-effective and suitable for my business. Although Trello has a lot more features, most of them are not required for our business. Also, we had a bad a really bad experience with the customer service of Trello. Laserfiche is way better and quick to respond to and resolve customer queries.

    • We've gone from folders and folders of Word documents and PDFs into a single system with a search feature to bring all of our data together and trackable
    • While onboarding took a bit longer for the company (to switch from a Word document centric mindset - to a web-based one), overall the company has embraced the features and power of Confluence within the working stack
    • However, as costs continue to climb for the Atlassian product, we are forced to continue our evaluation of the product - with replacing it a remote possibility if it begins to outprice its usefulness to us.
