Our Client Services team uses Brainshark presentations to author and host videos that we use for client-facing resources distributed in our Product Help destination, email communications, and other sites. We create the following types of videos for client consumption: How To, Getting Started Guided Tour Videos, and Feature Release Videos. What is so valuable about Brainshark and essential to our success in creating and distributing information to our clients is:

  • Ease of Use - Creating and updating a video is a cinch; the simple tool set and creation from PPT fits our needs exactly.
  • Hosting - By leveraging Brainshark to not only author but host the video it's a one-step process from authoring to distribution.
  • Reporting - We can see how often our videos are watched, how much of the video is watched, and more making it easy to determine the efficacy and popularity of the content.

Brainshark rocks!!

  • Ease of Use

  • Custom Reporting
  • Syncing animations

Knowing your audience, purpose of the videos, and who will be authoring the videos are key considerations when analyzing a video vendor.

We use Brainshark to support Pre-Class, In-Class, and Post-Class training for our sales force. It is also used for corporate training, legal training, and Compliance courses. It allows us to provide training on our intranet and outside of the organization. Most importantly, it is almost completely device agnostic, so I know our people will be able to view our training, videos and courses pretty much anytime and anywhere.
  • When they release upgrades and modules they work (not buggy like many other vendors).
  • World-class customer service with customer service (local in the US).
  • Continuous upgrades and enhancements (usually every 6 weeks).
  • The reports are robust but not completely customizable.
  • Admin functionality is good but not great.
How much complexity are your people able to use (and comprehend)? If they are all MIT grads, then Brainshark might be too simple and a more robust LMS/content delivery system may be applicable. If your people want click and play, then Brainshark is a good fit.

Across the whole organization. Ability for any user to easily create a communication or training that can be launched to anyone with internet access.
  • Easily load audio. And the ability for anyone to add audio as a guest author.
  • Ability to share with anyone who has internet access. No need to worry about who can get on our intranet.
  • Easy upload of poweproint modules.
  • More interactivity.
Best for quick and easy communications and training.

Not the best option for user interactivity.

We use Brainshark across our organization for various training and communication needs. Brainshark is used for marketing, sales, compliance, training, internal communications, and much more.
  • Brainshark is user friendly and easy to use.
  • The premise of Brainshark utilizes tools that are readily accessible: PowerPoint and a telephone.
  • The viewing experience for those the receive a Brainshark presentation is seamless. Brainshark functions on nearly all mobile devices without requiring additional "apps".
  • Brainshark has so many great features that it is difficult for me to highlight any issues. We use the tool to its fullest and are extremely satisfied with its performance.
Brainshark is so versatile that it could be used by small companies and large organizations. It can fit nearly any facet.

We utilize Brainshark for our entire internal training library. Education, testing and tracking are all done through Brainshark.
  • Mobile-friendly. Our associates need to access training from where they are, from an office to the cab of their truck. Brainshark provides.
  • Customized to our needs. We didn't have to fit Brainshark's mold. They worked to meet our needs where we were.
  • Excellent support. The tech support team has all the answers, no matter how complex.

We are using Brainshark for internal information sharing and alignment, and to cut down on time spent in meetings. The idea is to share information and regularly cadenced updates in a Brainshark, so then meetings are shorter and focused solely on decision making. We are now using it Enterprise wide.
  • On-demand presentation tool
  • Great support
  • Easy to use
  • Not great features for collaborating on presentations
  • Poor viewing in many countries in Asia
  • Cumbersome access structure for folders
Brainshark is great for training, and for quick information alignment. It is not great for situations where you need a lot of dialogue and face to face interactions.

We use Brainshark Rapid Learning as a way to train our employees and track their scores and completion progress. We also use it to track recertification points. It's used across our entire organization, and has saved us significant time. In utilizing this product, we are able to train 1,400 employees without having them travel to our corporate office.
  • The reporting options in Brainshark are incredibly important to us. In our industry, we have to follow state regulations for training, and part of those regulations dictate how we track training completion and scores. Brainshark tracks all of that for us, ensuring accuracy and ease.
  • The creation of courses and presentations in Brainshark is very intuitive. Once their customer representatives have walked you through the process, you've got it. We were able to jump right in and begin creating our own training courses.
  • Brainshark tech support and customer service are incredibly prompt and helpful. The moment you send in a question or concern, they begin addressing it right away. We've yet to have an issue they couldn't handle.
  • So far, any time we've had suggestions for improvement, Brainshark has addressed them and made them happen, so I currently don't have any suggestions for something they could do differently.
Brainshark is well suited to both advertising and training. Currently, we use it exclusively for training. We find it very useful to enable IP restrictions. This allows us to put proprietary information on Brainshark and guarantee that only our employees will be able to view it. Security is excellent and tracking and reporting are spot on.

We originally began using it in just 1 department to train a few clients around the globe. However, in the last year or so, we have implemented it across multiple departments, and have now trained thousands internationally. It allows us to scale our educational offerings, and train those who we originally could not quite reach.
  • Incredible customer support. From our original sales person, to our account manager and technical consultant, everyone has our best interest as their first priority.
  • The product itself just works!
  • Their product management team is excellent. We have made suggestions as to what it may lack, and they have used those suggesitons to improve their product offerings.
  • User management is simple, but it would be nice if it was a bit more robust.
  • There is no bulk deletion mechanism, although I was told product teams are working on developing this.
  • Branding. I know there are ways we can remove their Brainshark logos and such, but it is at a cost, which sometimes our clients don't like.
The questions would be surrounding how robust of a system you need. For what we do, this is a great platform. It works as a learning management system for us, but our needs are not quite as in-depth as others may be. If you need ability to track multiple activities form users outside of the system, this is not good for it. However, for what we do, this is the best!

We have been using Brainshark to bridge the gap between formal and informal communications. As we try to gauge the effectiveness of our communications, Brainshark's metrics in conjunction with our SSO implementation have given us the ability to track retention and readability. This gives us a better understanding as to the way in which our employees receive messages and if they are in fact paying attention. We have streamlined many authors throughout the organization and that number grows daily.
  • Analytics that display views, length of view times, etc.
  • Integrate with many other platforms
  • Customer service is top notch
  • Incorporate touch capabilities for presentations on mobile devices other than answering questions
Identify business problems surrounding communications and see if they need to be mainstreamed to establish message consistency within large organizations.

  • It's easy for business owners to create a polished presentation using simple tools.

We initially deployed Brainshark in one division of our organization but it has been met with such positive feedback and results that the rest of the organization may be deploying it as well. It provides an agile and mobile multi-media delivery platform for communications and training.
  • It is easy to create and deliver dynamic, engaging content.
  • The content can be viewed on multiple devices and platforms so it is easily accessible to all users.
  • The administration of the Brainshark is easy and painless and their support team is awesome!
  • I would love to see more detailed information regarding last time people logged in addition to the current usage statistics.
  • More flexibility to produce custom reports would be a nice value add.
  • More customizable, robust and attractive quiz/survey/knowledge check slides would be wonderful.
We continue to find new and different ways to use the platform and Brainshark does a great job of providing information on additional ways to create content and use Brainshark in organizations. I think any company could benefit from its use. Students could even use it for presentations and reports.

Brainshark was used across the sales and marketing departments at my past company, primarily focused on sharing content from the inside sales team. All sales team members had access to the system and were encouraged to use it for sharing decks and information with clients and prospects.
  • Tracking when presentations are viewed - this is great as you can get alerted immediately that someone has begun watching or finished watching the deck you sent them, allowing you to follow up with them and find out what they thought of the presentation.
  • Providing a secure portal for sharing confidential presentation information - you can set it up so that various privacy filters are on your decks, including needing a password you provide in a separate email
  • It is difficult to edit content within the system, it would be great if they added PowerPoint editor within the portal
  • Some of the UI could be improved, but for the most part I think it's a great and easy-to-use system
It is well suited for anyone with a medium to large-size sales team. We had about 25 sales resources using the system. In my new role where I only work with 5 sales people, I'm not sure that it would make as much sense. But the read-receipts/alerts of viewing are still very helpful regardless of your team's size.

Currently, the organization is using Brainshark to enhance their Learning management system offering. It allows users and technical trainers the ability to add voice over to powerpoints, and recently they've upgraded their platform to include more enhanced metrics.

Personally, I am using Brainshark to create a series of "Institutional knowledge quizzes." These vary in length and questions, but I'm leveraging Brainsharks ability to inject quiz questions into the platform and we are essentially using it as a quiz tool. It addresses many problems, and has a lot of great features. The ability to update an existing presentation without the link changing that has been sent to users is a blessing. The metrics, reporting, and guestbook opt-in features are also very nice. It's definitely being used, at least from a consumption perspective, by the whole organization. I would consider myself the organization's foremost Brainshark expert and use the platform the most.
  • Ability to update presentations real-time, even ones that have been already distributed. In a normal LMS, you send out essentially a file and cannot update it without having to send out a new file. Being able to make modifications without changing the URL of the presentation is critical for large organizations who distribute the presentations on a 10,000+ employee basis.
  • Brainshark's platform is pretty easy to use - it's intuitive and built on PowerPoint, which most end-users are familiar with.
  • The metrics and ability to quickly see how which viewers have viewed the presentation, for how long, and how they score on assessment questions is excellent.
  • For us, using brainshark as a quiz distribution, it's certainly lacking in terms of how it handles an "incorrect" question. You're limited to a single-text, canned response to show the users the right answer if they got it wrong. They could certainly add some functionality to the assessment question portion to make it easier for that use case.
  • The system itself can be slow at times. Sometimes when editing a question property, it takes a few seconds to load. When building these on a large-scale, those few seconds can add a lot of time to creating and finishing a presentation.
  • The limited ability to change branding, look and feel is disappointing at times. Obviously being built on PowerPoint, you can make your slides look however you want. But in terms of the c-frame, or table of contents you are essentially stuck with what BrainShark has given you.
For presentations, it's very appropriate. When distributing to a large number of employees, (25,000+ for us) it can handle that type of volume which is extremely beneficial.

Where it is not as appropriate, is for a novice user attempting to use Brainshark as simply a standalone quiz tool. While I understand the tool itself is not designed around quiz and assessment functionality, they do include it, but the lack of customization can be a detriment. If you're looking for flash and excitement in a quiz, or even something that can nicely display incorrect questions to help the user learn, Brainshark is not the right tool.

Brainshark is a great tool for us to streamline and facilitate on the go training for all of our field based employees. We also use it for customer training, which adapts well to a busy physician's practice. It is used across a number of cross functional groups from marketing, to research and development, to legal and compliance, as well as sales training.

It certainly saves us money as it avoids having to get groups together to train on items, but it also is a time saver.
  • Takes basic content and makes it interactive.
  • Provides detail reports which meets a lot of quality, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
  • Easy to upload and create material.
  • Accessible from many devices.
  • The ability to reset modules when you build curriculum is not possible.
  • The ability to easily upload documents to create a Box like format is not possible and have it look simple from the user end.
  • The system sometimes acts strange when you are logged into the administrative side of Brainshark and are on Salesforce.com at the same time.
  • It does not always upload pictures and graphics well from Powerpoint, causing a lot of time spent on tweaking slides.
Well suited for field based teams for on demand training. Great for customers to learn about your product. Knowing how well it can work with your LMS is important to understand, as well as how to run the best reports to maintain effective training records.

BrainShark is used to create brief tutorials so that we don't have to reinvent the wheel each time we have a message to get to a customers or a feature to train them on.
  • It couldn't be easier to use. You don't have to be technical at all.
  • The end product sounds professional and seamless, even if you did several takes.
  • You can easily replace pieces of content, audio and visual at any time without having to redo the entire presentation.
  • It could perhaps use more Flash content vs. just ppt to give the feel of a professional, in-studio piece. There could be add-ons you can purchase that I'm not aware of.
If you are looking for more of a web conference tool where you want to demonstrate something live, you should go for an online conferencing product. BrainShark is more for canned presentations to be housed on your intranet or a training library.

Brainshark solved a few complex issues for us. First, we had numerous marketing videos, but no real way of sending them out other than through the mail and burning a new CD. We tackled this with Brainshark as it gave us a seamless online experience that we could send direct to customers both through email and/ or SFDC (Salesforce.com) through each contact record. Secondly, we used the Learning module within Brainshark. This enabled our training department to onboard new hires, train existing employees on new and past products/services and track the sales and account management departments overall progress on our product/ service knowledge.
  • Integration with SFDC. This was an integral part in choosing this tool as all of our solutions needed to connect directly through SFDC. It was a pretty seamless integration in terms of the setup and installation.
  • Videos- This was an easy way to load videos online. Even non-technical people can load videos. The process was very intuitive and easy to use.
  • Help- their help desk and service was very helpful. Almost even more helpful was their online resources and blogs. Many times I didn't even need to call the help desk as their online resources were very rich in content.
  • Larger video size. They continued to up the file size amount, but as video sizes get larger more room will be needed.
It is well suited for email marketing for videos, training for internal use and also internal video blogs by senior execs. I'd make sure whatever solution people look for, it works on any mobile or tablet device. I'd also ask any vendor what resources they have to help during the training/learning portion and make sure they are robust enough.

We use Brainshark mostly for training within our organization. It is mostly used when large groups of employees, or the entire employee population, must be familiar with certain concepts. Delivering training in this manner allows us to visually and interactively provide necessary training at a time that is convenient for employees. It employs a variety of media vehicles, interactive questions/polls, and competency assessments. This is often very necessary for our customers and audits as we are in a highly regulated industry.
  • The options for providing audio/narration are very helpful. You never know when you may need to update some of the narrative for a particular reason and you can do it via phone as well as via the computer and a microphone. Both methods provide very clear instructions on how to record.
  • The ability to include different media, questions, tracking, reports, updates, sharing of the presentation for editing...all are extremely valuable to keeping our trainings current, interactive and beneficial.
  • Some slides require a great deal of narration as we stay on the same slide and use the animations and transitions as the updates to the same slide. It would be nice if there were a way to go back to a certain point in the audio to pick up from when a narration error occurs, rather than have to (re)record the entire narration as a whole.
It is definitely a terrific tool.

Brainshark is being used as a platform for our training within the Rewards Program we have established for our network of dealers. We also use it as a training platform when we are educating and traveling to both dealers and distributors. In addition, our internal staff participates in the training initiative as well. It is being used across the whole organization and is very successful. Because our business has so many facets and products, this training addresses our many product lines and educates across the board.
  • Excellent Customer Service. Wow, oh Wow... Their customer service is phenomenal. Every time I need assistance or have a question or concern, not only does their customer service get back with me almost immediately, but they take extra measures to ensure they assist and solve your problems to the max. I never hesitate to contact them and feel as if they truly have the best for our company in mind.
  • The only concern I have is that it is not the easiest searching for our videos. We have 30-40 videos currently on Brainshark and searching can be a bit time consuming. I have developed my own way of finding what I need, however when you only show a small selection of your content on a page at a time, it can be a bit hard to work with at times.
Brainshark is incredibly well suited for a sales team that may not be local. It is also phenomenal to get the word out for your customers. I'd say if you have a relatively small company where most if not all people are centrally located AND you're not looking to do any education outside your business walls, Brainshark wouldn't be for you. With that said, though, the uses for the services Brainshark has to offer are limitless. If time is spent getting to know their product, you'll find new channels and ways to improve via Brainshark every day.

We use Brainshark across various departments - sales, product training, marketing, HR, corporate communications, etc. It's an efficient way to create on-demand presentations in an easily digestible and shareable format.
  • Intuitive platform - easy to learn on your own
  • If you do need support, their online archive and their support team are very helpful
  • Affordable compared to other similar solutions
  • I wish it were easier to time animations to the intended recorded voice cues. The process can be a bit cumbersome.

Brainshark allows us to quickly create materials to inform clients about our products and services.
  • Brainshark offers an easy to use interface to add audio and animation to your PowerPoint presentations.
  • The ability to easily edit a Brainshark is very helpful as updates are needed to the audio or visual aspects of your video.
  • The reporting offers great insight into who is interacting with your content, which platforms and devices they are on and their level of engagement
  • I'd like the ability to download the final slides from a Brainshark. To make changes, we often just upload one new slide and merge it to the audio. It is a bit of version control nightmare to ensure you have the latest version of the slides used for your files.
One point to note is that you don't create videos with Brainshark (in the traditional sense of the word), they are more animated presentations with animation, audio, chapters and great reporting on the back end. There are many use cases where this is the right format. We do however still work with a production agency to create more cinematic videos.

Brainshark was an excellent tool that I used to create ancillary material for my students, namely to provide them a way to go back and "retake" a particular course afterwards. It is being used by only me (that I know of), and it helps students who may need additional review time to look at it outside of class when they're often embarrassed to ask you to go over something again.
  • Easy to use
  • Allows an animated experience without needing any coding
  • Easy for students to access
  • Allow different media to be uploaded and used (e.g. Flash, Movies, etc...).
  • Have a WYSIWIG UI to help create more animated features so you are doing more than just PowerPoint presentations.
It's particularly well-suited if you're a really good PowerPoint designer and need quick, easy, and free software.

I use Brainshark to create training decks for those who are seeking Salesforce certifications. It is a great product and is very useful to our internal team. The ease of use and the quality of the results makes it easy for all types of learners to understand the topics and the rate their level of knowledge by the topic reviews I am able to incorporate into the presentation.
  • Brainshark is easy to create. Once you have your presentation completed, it's just takes seconds to upload into Brainshark.
  • Brainshark has the ability to add audio through your computer's microphone or via a phone number provided. It's very easy to add your own voice to the presentations.
  • Brainshark has the ability to easily update your presentations and add video content which is also very helpful for some training situations.
  • Its easy to share a Brainshark presentation, via a URL, but also easy to access on a mobile device.
  • It would be great to have some templates to work from so that your content can be easier to create in some instances.
  • It would be great to have some music available to add to the voice audio.
  • It would be great to have some icons or images to use to add some flavor to the presentations.
For my purposes of training, it is well suited. For sales collateral it is a bit challenging.

I used Brainshark to create rapidly developed e-learning modules for a large financial services company's external customers. Brainshark was also used by the company's marketing department, whose license we shared. The project involved training external customers on a new trading platform the company was developing.
  • If you're a good PowerPoint animator, then Brainshark is for you.
  • Brainshark allows easy, rapid development.
  • The Quiz interface in Brainshark is well developed and has been markedly improved in later releases.
  • It is not possible, other than the quiz interface, to provide interactive functionality.
  • Some of the publishing interface is a bit clunky. For example, if you are editing slides from a certain point in the presentation, you are returned to the beginning, after editing. I would prefer to be returned to the slide I just edited. This may seem like a small thing, but when you have limited time, the small things add up.
  • Although the reporting functions in Brainshark are robust, it would be nice to be able to set up adhoc reports based on criteria the user selects. Some of this exists now, I would just like to see it taken a few steps farther.
Do you want to publish e-learning outside of an LMS? Brainshark makes it easy to do this. Will users be expert PowerPoint users? Brainshark is helpful for these types of users. Do you require robust reporting? Brainshark has this. Do you require interactive functions? Brainshark is limited here.

We launched lite LMS system for the sales organization. It is used to develop product, systems and soft skills training modules for approximately 400 users. It addresses a need for new hire/onboarding and refenforcement/ongoing training.
  • Simple to use
  • Little to no downtime
  • Ability to record without special software
  • Ability to send presentation links to customers or employees who are not users (no extra charge)
  • More interactive training elements that work with Adobe Captivate software
  • Implementation and communication plan would have been helpful from account manager
  • Ability to upload documents without having to upload a presentation
This is not a robust LMS system. And, it's not cheap by any means. I strongly suggest doing a features and benefits grid and make sure it meets your organization's needs.
