Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

I have used on premise software and it is big, clunky and needs a ton of IT resources to make even the smallest of changes. Adaptive is the exact opposite of that. It is easy to use and I was able to manage the entire software package with a team of one...me.

I have used Hyperion, Prophix, and an internally-developed Access based solution for budgeting, along with Excel. I honestly never want to be in a non-Adaptive environment again. It has most of the flexibility and ease of Excel, without the version control and linking issues that come along with it. Since it's hosted, budget managers can log in easily to update their budgets and see their monthly financial results. The Finance team can maintain the system internally, without having to request assistance from IT. And with Office Connect, creating and updating reports is so fast and easy, it saves so much time we used to spend manually updating and linking new files.

As noted in the last question, I love not needing developers and programmers involved in simple changes. Oracle is great for larger businesses where more control and global development is required.

Adaptive Insights

We took a look at some (then) similar packages to Adaptive Insights in our selection process. Forecast Pro was the leading competitor at the time of our decision. Forecast Pro was less expensive in the long run but was much more difficult in set-up, implementation and maintenance. Adaptive was clearly the better choice.

We selected Adaptive Insights for two reasons:
1. They are cloud based. With the software being managed on the cloud, we do not need to worry about managing servers, broken data tables, or other back-end concerns. We also don't have to wait for our (already taxed) IT department to rewrite queries or fix problems. Adaptive Insights takes care of all of that for us!
2. Their customer service is excellent. I have always been treated with respect. Their response time is amazing, and they are always working to help find solutions.

The fact that the software was built in the cloud and can be accessed from anywhere, is definitely a plus. None of the big vendors we looked at were in the cloud, they were either just looking into or in the initial stages. But again, they might be putting their application in the cloud, but they did not rebuild the entire applications. They also do not have all products in the cloud, only some. I was asked by one major vendor why would you want it in the cloud. Just from that statement, it turned me off. One of the biggest factors was the cost and IT support. Adaptive's cost was much lower and there is very little IT support required..

With Hyperion, there was always additional time associated with IT involvement, whether it was to add to the organizational structure, currency rate calculations etc. In Adaptive Insights there is no need for IT intervention - AI is truly real-time information when you need it. AI is a no-brainer!

Adaptive Insights is more user friendly, I love the fact that it updates in real time, without having to "roll up" your data to see the results. The reporting is easy to use and understand and the cost is much better when compared with big hitters such as Hyperion and Oracle. I have never had an issue with data loss, system freezes, downtime or delayed support responses. In short, the system has never caused me frustration, something that can't be said for most other software I rely (Excel for instance).

Like many other companies, we once budgeted using Excel. We most recently used Horizon. Excel is obviously not the way to budget with hudrends of locations and users. Horizon was difficult to roll up multiple divisions into a high level view. Our users were frustrated and spent a lot of time entering data and then waiting for a roll up.

Adaptive solves these issues by giving us an easily deloyed solution to many users across the country and as soon as those users hit save we can see a high level company-wide budget number. That kind of instant view is priceless.

Adaptive has more flexibility than other programs to not only create complex formulas but to link information so that updates flow through multiple sheets if needed. Adaptive is really designed for large companies but is user friendly and customizable for a smaller company to still benefit from using the program.

Upper management wanted to switch to Oracle Budgeting about a year ago - after a preview - there was no question that Adaptive had superior functionality and better customer service. As a result - we've signed with Adaptive for 5 more years.

  • Excel
We transitioned to Adaptive Insights after using Excel for our budget (as most people have in the past). We had a very large and complicated spreadsheet that used the F9 add-on to pull data from the accounting system into Excel to aid in budgeting. However, everything would break once we distributed sheets to managers to fill in their budgets or if we added a new row for a new account number. I spend countless hours hunting down formula errors in Excel, which I do NONE of now!! Adaptive also allowed us to budget by project in a way that Excel did only in a very complicated way. We are SO glad to be done with Excel for budgeting!

I have used Oracle, Host Analytics, and Axiom. Adaptive Planning is far and away superior to Host Analytics on every stand point. Adaptive Planning is a much easier version to use over Oracle and Axiom on a budgeting and planning only standpoint. When we chose Adaptive we only needed the budgeting and planning tool so that is why we went with them. Very easy system for our management team to learn.

We used Excel, and macro laced Excel workbooks for planning in the past, and for any ad-hoc customized reporting. Excel was clunky, difficult to maintain, and links were breaking left and right. Allocated departments were often changing their budgets, which had downstream impact on everyone. The plan version control was horrendous with Excel. It's a piece of cake with Adaptive!

I've used other budget programs that were good, but most of them were linked to the Software (and the last good one cost $40k. This product doesn't have to link to a particular GL/POS product and it is much more reasonably priced.

Host Analytics which we also reviewed in-depth (saw demos, had department heads and users to sit in on demos, talked to vendor supplied references with both companies, asked same list of standard questions) Adaptive planning was: a) More intuitive - the team could envisage what they needed to do and seemed intuitive to do those things. b) Price was better c) Our VP of IT talked to both. Adaptive Planning knew what they were doing security wise and knew what their issues were. The Host Analytics guys did not understand the potential issues they would be facing.
