Overall Satisfaction with BigCommerce
My business specialises in the sale of materials for jewellery designers. We sell online through a dedicated website and on a lesser scale through eBay and use BigCommerce as our preferred platform - having tried many others in the past. We also manage our eBay account from our main BC dashboard, via one of BigCommerce's partner apps.
- Adaptability - I find BigCommerce to have more options in terms of design and tailoring to different countries/tax and postage options available to website owners than a lot of the competition
- Price - I find BigCommerce reasonably affordable
- Great customer service - I have always found BigCommerce's customer service to be approachable, knowledgeable and professional
- Ease of use - I find it easy to manage my website at almost every stage from design to order processing. It has been easy to teach to my team and everyone has found it very easy to use.
- My only difficulty so far has been using WebDav to make changes to the design template files - usually small tweaks, say, if a margin is too big for instance. This proved too technical for me, and I have had to pay for a developer to assist on several occasions.
- It would be great if this area could be more user friendly for non-technical end users. However I can't imagine that it is possible to do this, or BigCommerce would probably already have done so!
- We have been able to increase product lines directly due to BigCommerce's extensive categorisation and product options offering
- We have reduced the time it takes to process orders - SKUs, bin picking numbers, order printing and customer emails have all made it easier to get orders out to customers
$20,000 to $100,000
We purchased an off-the-peg design template but made extensive use of web developers to adapt the template to our business. This has worked well although it is difficult for a non-technical person to update. To someone with experience, the site is very adaptable. We subscribe to a number of apps to integrate our business with other platforms (eg. eBay) or to improve customer experience (eg. pop up notices to inform of sales/holidays etc.). These for the most part work well. A number of apps on offer would be very interesting to us but, these being products external to BigCommerce, the prices are set by the developers and so these apps can often be very expensive.
My business previously used Big Cartel which was perfect for a small artsy business. However when we grew, Big Cartel did not have all the functionality that we needed - such as subcategories and sub-subcategories. Wix was attractive but it felt a little like an instagram darling and we were after a bit more substance. Shopify was a strong contender for us and we rated it for its attractive integrations and app offerings but its methods of categorising products did not suit our busines. Magento and Woo were appealing for being entirely customisable but we could never begin to master either. Both would have been too complicated to use for day-to-day business.
BigCommerce offered all the bells and whistles that we needed, and more that we hadn't realised we did, plus it was easy to use and a reasonable price.
