Overall Satisfaction with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT

I use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT to input all fundraising donations and donors into the database. Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is used to track our revenue for our finance department, allocate it to the right program, keep track of appeal and event success, and keep track of important donor information and contact points. There are around 44,000 donors in our Raiser's Edge database that can go back to their donation activity as far back as the 1980s. Raiser's Edge keeps track of all things data at the macro and micro levels. I am able to pull donor and query lists as well as really keep track of important information about donors that allows us to get to know them more personally. Raiser's Edge is where all of the donor and donation histories lives.

  • In my experience, there are lots of glitches in the system. System can be down a lot.
  • Lots of nuances that aren't necessarily taught in their courses but learned from experience. Which can lead to many mistakes for gift entry.
  • Unable to make specific changes at times and changes can be irreversible.
  • NXT and database view don't have the same language and sometimes data does not appear on both systems.

The queries have helped with our moves management in targeting which donors can be moved to major gifts by tracking their giving, location, and frequency of giving. Also tracking our touch points through actions has helped us determine how many times to contact a donor.

Some trainers rush the training and others don't really know the answers to many specific questions. But other than that I do like how the trainings are broken down with PowerPoint slides, step by step instruction, and having the trainees do the activity.
We selected Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT because it is a legacy system that the organization has been using and it would be too troublesome to merge and transfer data and also train staff with new software we aren't aware of. We know what we get with Blackbaud.

Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is well suited for mid-size to large non-profits that hire staff to specifically be the database administrator in order for less error to occur. In my experience, learning the system can be difficult and frustrating for a lot of inexperienced staff.
