Overall Satisfaction with PagerDuty

PagerDuty is used as an event management platform. All monitoring tools used are supposed to feed into PD and the logic of whether the alerts are high / low etc are performed in PagerDuty . This makes it easier to manage and each team works in a similar way.
  • Support rotas
  • Linking services
  • Integrations with third party platforms
  • n.a
  • Configurable support rotas
  • Integration with tools like Cloudwatch, New Relic, Grafana
  • Sends notificaitons to app, slack, sms, email etc
  • Much easier to manage and review one platform
  • Easier for team members to move around and still understand processes
We have not had a serious downtime issue as far as I can recall.
This is one of the key benefits of the tool - its ability to integrate with so many third party applciations.
Some services are not business critical and therefore, the alerts can be configured to only send notifications during working hours. Whereas other services need to be reviewed immediately in the event of downtime and can be configured to send a notification and then escalations if no acknowledgement is given.
Analytics can help you identify trends in types or frequency of incidents across different services to offer opportunities for improvement in the long run.
New Relic is an excellent monitoring tool but the alerting features in PagerDuty make it a better option for event management.
