I use 7Sheep for marketing as a sales person. This works well for me as a single user. I do not think I could use the software together with my colleagues. Although we could have separated lists the access rights might not fit our use case. It has a strong marketing focus and cannot replace a full CRM system.

It's working well for us as an email marketing tool. We've streamlined our communications and keep all our various programs branding consistent. The analytics help us know what is working and what isn't for content. We have used the campaign feature some too, but not to it's full extent. Managing contacts is fairly easy using InfusionSoft.

Pros

7Sheep

  • When preparing an event, 7Sheep takes care of pretty much everything you need to select, inform, and register participants, as well as prepare materials for the events, such as name badges and signature lists.
  • We also use 7Sheep for reporting on communications activities.
  • 7Sheep allows you to build simple or complex forms and questionnaires which we use both for events and independent surveys.
  • The drag and drop HTML editor makes things look good without a lot of extra effort.

Keap

  • The strongest part of Keap/Infusionsoft is the CRM side for contacts and companies. The contact view is very robust, with everything from basic data points to form submissions, campaigns past and present, purchases, tags, web site profile, opportunities, and tons of customization is available with custom fields. Every business needs custom fields for segmentation, lead management, and reporting. It is very robust here.
  • The email builder is very simple and quick to use. The drag and drop functionality with built-in templates makes it a breeze to set up any kind of email from a beautiful marketing blast to a simple automated sales follow-up. Tagging from email clicks is also great for triggering other actions or notifications to reps for follow up. Emails are mobile responsive, too, without any extra coding or fiddling.
  • This has my favorite campaign builder. Simply pick a goal that triggers actions and then build our sequences with very robust if/then conditional logic. You can build campaigns as simple as an opt-in form with notification or follow-up or a 30-touch account-based marketing campaign all on the same canvas which is so swift and easy to edit.

Cons

7Sheep

  • I know that they are working on a simpler way to send a test e-mail to yourself. This will streamline my activities as well and I look forward to that system change (which was suggested by a client. I have also suggested improvements which have been implemented.)
  • I miss an easy unsubscribe feature (like you get in MailChimp). Overall, 7Sheep's system is more flexible (good) but that does make it more complex to split up (not so good).
  • Setting up the SPF record in our DNS system was flexible and easy but for DKIM integration we had to contact the 7Sheep support. They do not check or show the necessary records in the tool. Customer service was great, though, so not a very big problem, just a bit of a nuisance.

Keap

  • The layout of the CRM - users with basic customer account access should have a cleaner easier to follow view vs administrators with robust access.
  • I would recommend tying more explainer tasks to campaign options to create better clarity over the purpose of each option to help new administrators - maybe a toggle of guided or not guided campaign creation.

The tool serves our needs and we like the user interface. The few times we contacted support they were super helpful and responsive. When we asked for more integrations they confirmed the integrations we need (e.g. Hipchat) for the near future.

We have invested a lot into Infusionsoft and are using it to automate our processes and marketing. Changing CRMs would have a HUGE cost for us and based on our evaluations, the grass isn't greener elsewhere. Infusiosoft fits most of our needs and is slowly getting better each year. Their support is great and we will continue to use them until something much better comes around or our company outgrows a small business CRM.

I go back to the idea that it's not a tool for solo-entrepreneurs, it's a tool for larger companies or at lease those with enough annual revenue that they can pay a marketing team member to handle the email automations. This software is old and clunky, it has not kept up with it's competitors in terms of usability and visual intuitive design, so it has a steep learning curve and takes a while to learn how to use. You have to be able to pay someone for their time to learn it well. Other software is much more streamlined in terms of ease of use, ability to just intuitively know how to set up an email campaign and add the applicable triggers and tags

OMG, it's all in one and that compromises everything, fundamentally. If you want a race car, invest in a race car. If you want a dune buggy, get that. If you want a boat that floats, go for it.

With both chat and email support I have always had enough ways to get through to them! Their support is good, honest and most importantly supportive. They helped us set up and start using the tool when we got stuck. Moving from Mailchimp where there were some semantic lessons to learn and they took the time to help us get used to 7Sheep

Keap's tier 1 support is pretty well educated on what most basic users would need to know and would likely struggle with. Getting support beyond that is more difficult, and your issue likely would not be addressed until several software releases later unless it was a major breaking issues for many accounts. If you have a question Tier 1 can't help you with, you're probably better off hitting the online communities for assistance.

This training is taught often to the lowest common denominator so as to help as many customers of theirs as possible. We do the training and coaching and implementations for our clients. But clients who I know who have been to their training get trained well. The gap that can exist lies in you doing your part and really investing in using and building out the application. The training and education is only as good as your willingness to apply it.

Don't let the fear of implementing a new software solution keep you from unleashing the power of automation that Infusionsoft provides. With the right implementation partner, the process can not only be smooth and painless, it can actually help you get a better understanding for how your current communication process can be improved upon.

I've mostly used survey monkey and google forms and doodle for small inexpensive jobs - anything more sophisticated always seemed to cost more than the actual fee I charge. 7sheep does everything they do, but it automates a lot of the processing, for a cost which is affordable and makes me more efficient - as I can use my subscription for different clients.

In the end, the difference between the software down to cost and versatility. Infusionsoft is priced closer to our budget with more options while some of these other ones is more expensive. We went with Infusionsoft just to get started and it was easier to learn how to use. As stated in the review, I don't believe this software could support very large companies with many workflows and active users.

Pricing is user and email and function based. Way too many pay walls and not native function for scaling. It's scaleable with NASA level marketing automation talent you must pay to engage. Otherwise, it gets expensive quickly for scaling to a true small business, which is what they target. Over 25 users and you're screwed. Look at the competition first, evaluate what you really need for your business and start there. Keep it simple, build your cash flow and confidence in the people you hired to make this work and then scale. Don't get sucked into the dream that this thing will help you sell your book to millions and you get famous while hanging on your boat or whatever. Building a small business is hard enough. Adding software often adds complexity in order to successfully scale.

Return on Investment

7Sheep

  • With the translation support we have translated forms into Spanish for our producers and this has been a really positive benefit for them as a partner.
  • I am able to monitor interest in different products very easily and so re-target particular varieties to specific regions.
  • Text message campaigns mean that we can directly engage: especially for physical meetings, tasting reminders and so forth.

  • We have really been able to keep a better handle on all of our leads and not let them fall through the cracks.
  • We have been able to flexible in our business solutions because Infusionsoft integrates so well with other products. We haven't found ourselves stuck in any "corners" because of it.
  • Because Infusionsoft tracks contact interactions, we have been able to better measure all of our objectives and know what is actually happening.
