Likelihood to Recommend

8x8 Virtual Office

I would be hard-pressed to recommend 8x8 Virtual Office. My organization is unhappy with the solution - I hear team members complain about it at least once a week and we have been with the product for three+ years. I'm unaware of other solutions that exist in the market, so the only time I would recommend this is if another, more capable product doesn't exist that is within the same price range.

CallSource

CallSource was great at seeing where we were failing as a company on the phone calls. It allowed us to tighten up a few spots to close those gaps and increase our call performance.

Pros

8x8 Virtual Office

  • Unified solution for setting up virtual meetings/conference calls - these meetings typically go smoothly and the application works well on desktop.
  • Active directory of team members.
  • Adding conference call information to Outlook emails via Outlook integration.

  • Analytics: Monthly reports on calls that breakdown all of the pertinent info you would need
  • Missed opportunities: Management would be notified when we had a missed opportunity for a sales lead/service inquiry immediately after the call was finished so we could follow up on it
  • Potentially missed revenue: Monthly reports would analyze data and tell you the potential revenue missed from the missed calls

Cons

8x8 Virtual Office

  • The application on devices often does not connect when you go to answer a call, so you're left trying to call someone back after essentially hanging up on them.
  • Instant messaging is extremely clunky and takes a very long time to load. Our team uses Slack or Microsoft Teams instead.
  • Versioning of the desktop application isn't consistent. I recently had to reinstall the application and, even though I am installing the newest version and there is no beta version for me to participate in, for some reason some of the functionality is now missing.

  • Phone Call Recording: The only place where I would like to see improvement is the number of calls that you can listen to. Calls are kept in their database for 30 days, and while they do give the option to download the calls I would prefer to be able to login and pull past calls as needed. Past calls, months down the road can be important to clients so they can compare the strength of their sales teams and see where improvement is needed. It lets you monitor overall campaign effectiveness, and if Callsource added this feature then they'd be unbeatable.

Based on their poor customer service and lack of warranty replacement, I would not recommend or use 8x8.

Alternatives Considered

8x8 Virtual Office

8x8 is definitely the winner if you're comparing RingCentral solely based on cost, however it will fall short on mobile, and administrative features/metrics compared to RingCentral. I would say Dialpad is in the middle, a bit more expensive than 8x8 but less costly than RingCentral. The mobile app behaves well and does texting which is great! I would say that 8x8 actually handles call recording a bit better than Dialpad but not as well as RingCentral. If you don't have a huge number of mobile-only users and cost is your primary concern 8x8 looks really good comparatively, just don't as many bells and whistles as the other two.

Others are similar, but this is a simpler format, quick e-mails going out and easy to make changes to the system rules for adjustments

Return on Investment

8x8 Virtual Office

  • Positive - we have been able to eliminate hard phones.
  • Positive - we have a unified phone conferencing solution for the US. Negative - doesn't work internationally.
  • Negative - the majority of the organization is unhappy with the solution - call quality is subpar and the app is buggy.

CallSource

  • Callsource helps us guide our clients since we have the power to listen to the sales teams and how they sound on calls. Listening to sales calls is very important for training purposes. Whoever picks up the phone is the face of the company, and if they aren't up to par then we need to work on increasing their customer service skill set.
