8x8 Virtual Office

8x8 is great if you are a hands-on type of person. In my experience, the people that are in charge of these types of systems tend to be extremely hands-on with the need for independence. If you aren't the independent, "take charge" type, then 8x8 wouldn't be right for you.

It is perfectly suited for service businesses that need to have excellent customer service on the phone and where any missed phone call means missed dollars. It is less appropriate for manager positions or other non-customer facing positions. We did not use it for internal work or positions that deal mostly on the back end

Pros

8x8 Virtual Office

  • Faxes and voicemail -- the quick sending of both to email makes for a very reliable method of not only processing, but also storing them as attachments which is vital.
  • Call reflecting from desk to cell phone is instantaneous, and very useful whenever one is away from the office but still needs to get client calls.
  • Very high-quality audio typically indistinguishable from a landline, in a much more affordable problem sliding package.

  • Analytics: Monthly reports on calls that breakdown all of the pertinent info you would need
  • Missed opportunities: Management would be notified when we had a missed opportunity for a sales lead/service inquiry immediately after the call was finished so we could follow up on it
  • Potentially missed revenue: Monthly reports would analyze data and tell you the potential revenue missed from the missed calls

Cons

8x8 Virtual Office

  • Since it's a VOIP system, you do have to have a working internet connection.
  • The cost of the system can be comparable to standard land line phone systems.
  • Having the ability for a receptionist to see who's already on the line is an additional cost.

  • Easier Dashboard: The dashboard is a little hard to navigate at times when digging deep into the menus
  • Mobile Dashboard: Sometimes I was not at my desk and needed to listen to a call on my mobile device. I could do it but a dedicated app might be nice

Based on their poor customer service and lack of warranty replacement, I would not recommend or use 8x8.

Alternatives Considered

8x8 Virtual Office

With Onebox, our employees had to use their own cell phones for their work calls. Additionally, there was no call queue function available at the time. Instead, all cell phones would ring at once, and it was a mad dash to who would answer. 8x8 has way more robust features to offer a growing company.

Return on Investment

8x8 Virtual Office

  • Our customers are able to get ahold of us easily.
  • Very little downtime.
  • Support help can be lengthy when calling in which takes time away from the work day.

  • Increase sales - With missed sales alerts, we were able to call those customers back and maybe reevaluate their situation and close the sale, or at least get one step closer to it.
  • Increase productivity - Office staff knew that there was a potential for the calls that they had coming in to be recorded, so they were more efficient and productive in their calls.
