If communicating with 30-90 agents in the virtual world, Adobe Connect definitely allows for the communication in a simplified environment. For example, f you have 30 agents taking calls, this program offers a way for agents to communicate. If questions are needed answered, the hosts have the ability to pose those questions and get answers from the group. In a smaller group, this may be a bit of overkill and may not be needed. Large groups of 75-100 would create and environment that is less appropriate as there are to many people asking questions and not receiving answers. This amount of people in one room may get lost in the confusion.

WebEx Meetings

WebEx is appropriate for both video and audio conferencing. It excels at recording and archiving of the content. Perfect for having a training session and recording the vendor's presentation for later use by my team members.

  • WebEx provides attendees with several options for connecting to meeting audio including computer headsets, 800 and local numbers as well as a call me feature. This makes it easy for people to connect no matter where they are or what device they are using to connect.
  • In our experience the audio and video streams during our meetings have been very stable and smooth. This enables very effective meetings without audio or video interruptions getting in the way.
  • WebEx has many useful features that enable a very strong meeting experience. Audio/Video, Screen Sharing and Whiteboard just to name a few.

Cons

  • Slides and images can be pre-loaded and deployed easily, but we have noticed some buffering issues when attempting to show video as a pre-loaded file.
  • Shared Templates offer a great way to set up and save multiple pods and layouts, however, we have encountered some issues when attempting to set up and save Breakout Rooms in a Shared Template.
  • When demonstrating screen-share tutorials for software, some parts of the application do not always render correctly for the viewer. In our experience, this problem typically occurs with more complex, multi-window applications.

  • When users remotely access a virtual machine sometimes the WebEx meeting doesn't work properly and when they same link is copied back to the users physical machine it starts working fine. This does occur sometimes if not frequently but it is an issue that needs to be taken care by the company.
  • Users who are new to the product may have several questions about it's functionality and it usually resolved or explained in detail by IT admins on a day to day basis. I wish some of the functionalities were made a bit more general making it easy for non technical people to comprehend.
  • Sometimes users do get a bit confused trying to do the screen sharing (desktop).

While we are always open to an alternative that meets our needs, we plan to stick with Adobe Connect for the foreseeable future. The product continues to evolve as Adobe rolls out new versions and updates on a fairly frequent basis, and as a hosted customer we receive those updates automatically

It's extremely easy to learn how to use the WebEx Meetings platform. All attendees have to do is join the meeting and then they'll see the presenters screen. Presenters just have to learn how to share their desktop, documents and videos and how to add additional presenters if need be

The ability to have most of the functionality of a full LMS at a fraction of the cost is huge. I can create manage and deploy both synchronous and asynchronous training based on the situation and all of my training is tracked through a series of easily created reports

Prices do not seem to vary much among resellers of the Adobe Connect hosted license; the only price variation you're likely to find are among the audio providers. When implementing, you may also wish to look into expanding the amount of storage you are allowed on the server to avoid any problems later on as your library of files starts to build up

Alternatives Considered

We found that WebEx was 'flat' when it came to training for extended periods of time. Deeper interactions created by AC with the course content, the instructors and, ultimately, with the students creates a successful class. A successful class means students that have been exposed to (in our case) intensely complex & technical content that wasn't hampered by stupid technical failures & lack of features. For example: in WebEx, when the Host dropped off, the classroom would get torn-down with it. It was a mad-scramble to get the classroom back up, and somehow notify the attendees that they can 'dial back in', etc. Additionally, the WebEx 'cloud' for course content storage & subsequent access wasn't as rich, or as flexible as AC's, and we found that our CDT release management team couldn't integrate their processes easily with WebEx, and therefore we regularly ran into inconsistencies in versions delivered.

The user interface (UI) is very impressive, though many a times non technical staff member has questions or issues which are resolved by IT admins, but in general the UI does provide a good impression to users who start using the product. Most features are clearly highlighted on the interface. File sharing, meeting recording and attachments are one of the best features this product provides which comes extremely handy in most situations. Meetings are not just about people talking, these days one single meeting comprises of scenarios where documents are required to be looked into there and then and comments required to be made right away. People are anxious to share their desktop screens as well simultaneously make comments on it. Overall you see one meeting improves the productivity of any business set up be it small, medium or large. In an economy where businesses are trying to bucket the time of their resources I believe this product is an excellent fit as most importantly, it saves business hours.

Return on Investment

  • I can't answer for the other departments, but for our specific teams, AC has allowed us to present a much more immersive and comprehensive training experience for our students. It's a comfortable, inviting environment, which is critical for an online classroom. Sitting in front of a screen for 6 hours is tough. Add to that the training component, and attendees will tire quickly, get frustrated at seemingly stupid hurdles and ultimately the training ecosystem causes the actual training content to get lost in the shuffle. Smooth transitions, easily navigated sections and loads of options make AC come together for us all.
