ADP RUN

RUN is good for companies that don't have a dedicated team for payroll and human resources. Everything you need can be found within the platform, including recruiting, forms and templates. If you don't want to take the time to add employees to the system, you can simply enter their name and email and turn it over to them to enter their info. Employees have access to their check stubs and can adjust their taxes, etc. on their own, saving the employer time and overhead. I don't believe that the platform is ideal for companies who have zero experience with payroll, as I believe having a dedicated representative for questions is more beneficial in those scenarios, but anyone who has done it for a few years should find the platform ideal and user-friendly.

Oracle has a brand weight that fuels both long-term viability and customer attraction—making the solution difficult to dismiss in any HCM software selection process. Oracle HCM Cloud with Taleo is well suited for customers and offers options such as on premise/private/hybrid cloud solutions. HCM cloud offerings provide some of the best enterprise information security in the software industry, thanks in large part to Oracle's database beginnings which allow for granular security (including encryption at column/row or full table depth), as well as an IT infrastructure for hosting that is best-in-class. New improvements in HCM cloud are what the future of HR industry needs per multiple surveys conducted in the software industry.

  • The software platform is incredibly easy to learn and user-friendly.
  • The cost is surprisingly better than other payroll processing platforms, especially considering what is included and the longstanding national reputation of ADP.
  • The simplicity, automation, and available templates and reports are incredibly helpful to our growing organization.

  • Zero downtime for the application and also easy upgrades to the HCM cloud applications is a big advantage over custom Oracle solutions like Peoplesoft.
  • Secure, availability over cloud (private, public & hybrid) rollouts, easy data migrations and flexible integration platforms help in making HCM cloud work well.

Cons

  • Communication during implementation could use improvement. A clear, written timeline of expectations would be useful.
  • Having a dedicated customer service rep or department, maybe even local, would be nice for those rare occasions that we need a little help.

  • The look and feel of the system is not conducive for a Global ESS and MSS. The interfaces are very geeky and the system does not provide enough options to make the look and feel user friendly. Compare this with the slick look-and-feel of Workday and you will know the difference.
  • Compensation Management does not factor in for regionalization. Grade ranges cannot be regionalized. We had to implement a very cumbersome workaround which is not scalable beyond Oracle Fusion HCM. Due to "custom" workaround, we cannot display the grade ranges to our managers through MSS.
  • Reporting in Oracle Fusion HCM is very technical and geeky. It is NOT a tool meant for an end user who would like to drag and drop, and add filters to create simple reports. The layout of the data schema reeks of techno-geek. Again compare it with Workday or Taleo and you will know the difference.
  • Pre-configured emails are very very geeky and non-configurable. As an example "password expiration" email does not even provide any information to the user on what to do reset the password and it is not something that we can change the verbiage of.
  • Customer Service - Oracle Support's service is highly sub-standard. They do not have a sense of urgency to the impact on business operations. Invariably, during their monthly and major version upgrades, existing processes break but there is no process to apply an immediate fix. The customer must suffer until next monthly patch. Customers must create a workaround for a month until the next patch.
  • The process of pulling records of employees is very cumbersome. We have to go through multiple clicks to switch the record from one employee to another.
  • Response Time - Oracle Fusion HCM is extremely slow especially so during 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM PST. A combination of multiple unnecessary clicks to do transactions combined with slow response, makes transaction process very cumbersome and resource sapping.

Taleo does what we need it to do and based on the costs from both a time and money perspective, I don't see us changing anytime soon. If anything I think we will look to leverage the capabilities available that we may not already be using.

Oracle has an excellent support model. The challenge is in adopting this support model and making traditional IT and non-mature system administrators use this model. In combination with the Oracle Cloud (client) Community, the support is excellent.

There is a lot of potential on Fusion. We have reaped about 10% of potential benefits. Especially on Workforce Intelligence, the opportunities are huge. The reason why we do not use the solution at its full potential is not in the product (which is simple and transparent). A roadmap is under construction to bring more of its potential to the end user.

Alternatives Considered

Although Paychex came in with a much lower quote than RUN, it was my relationship with my rep that made me stick with ADP. Also, the fact that I already liked the system layout and platform I have been using since day one.

The Oracle Fusion HCM was purchased without any evaluation before I joined Wesco based on the fact that our company is an Oracle shop and Oracle presented Fusion HCM as the only alternative. I would have done HCM evaluation in past assignments against Workday and PeopleSoft and Fusion HCM to be extremely weak.We did evaluate Taleo cloud against iCIMS and SuccessFactors. The criteria that tipped the scale in favor of Taleo was its integration with Fusion HCM and now I am finding that even that is in evolution stage.

  • The move to Transitions for our onboarding has been a lot of work to get both the technology and processess to align. Now that we are 5 months into it we are starting to see the benefits. I think it's creating a better experience for our candidates and it has helped us to keep managers aware of the status of their new recruits.
