AirWatch

AirWatch is a great tool for large organizations that need to manage more than 100 devices. The product is capable of handling multiple platforms and is scalable to any size company.I would not recommend AirWatch to small companies, companies with minimal MDM needs or companies on a tight budget. It's the Rolls Royce of MDMs, it has all the bells and whistles and it's not inexpensive.

ManageEngine Desktop Central

It is fantastic tool for managing desktops, laptops, and servers. I do not recommend for managing smart phones or iPads.

Pros

  • Enterprise application management - basically we can deploy the application under app catalog and end users can access these applications through their mobile devices after enrollment.
  • Content locker feature is one of the best features which I came across and it is widely used by any organization in order to manage all organization level content in it. It has many more features which we can explore and manage policies accordingly.
  • Admin Console, reporting services, accessing the public app through enterprise store, compliance policies, remote device wipe, passcode management these are major features which we can focus on and explore accordingly
  • Separate Inbox, contacts and calendar application for different OS. Boxer is their new application launch for emails on the device.

  • The remote connection tool requires very little interaction from the end user to establish a connection.

Cons

  • Adding mobile devices and users.
  • Need to have Apple VPP setup in order to push out apps to phones.
  • Lots of customizable configurations. (It's a good thing but it can be daunting at first).

  • To integrate with more manufacturers of PC's in order to pull warranty expiry dates.

We've used it for 3 years and our contract is up later this year. We own the licenses, but we would have to either renew cloud services or bring the services in-house and install on servers here. We may want to see what's new in the marketplace that could be just as useful and cost effective.

The other tools we use do not have an inventory management tool. Also not many tools we use intergrate well with this product.

It works well for our environment and what we're using it for. It actually does more than we're currently utilizing, but I believe our needs will change in the near future and we could utilize more features.

Reliability and Availability

Just in the past few weeks our staff has had several issues with the website. It is either taking a long time to load anything or we are not able to get in at all. This is very frustrating when you are trying to manage and enroll users. It was down 2 days in a row just this past week. Not good!

Went over the availability just a minute ago on the last rating. Don't use the reporting too much but will likely begin that soon. Integration with Active Directory doesn't seem to bog either system down.

They're usually very good. I've talked to any number of techs from level one to level 3. They all seem pretty knowledgeable about the product and how to support it.

Alternatives Considered

I don't have much of an opinion about this as most other places I have worked at allowed me to access my email through a web client. I guess this app makes it a little more mobile friendly by putting in an app.

We have used TeamViewer and are currently evaluating LogMeIn. Both products have been very reliable in remote sessions but lack the inventory feature that we like in Desktop Central 10.

  • This product is far more flexible than Exchange native ActiveSync.

  • The hardware and software reports we have provided upper management have provided all the information that was required.
  • The remote desktop connection tool is our preferred method to providing remote assistance.
