Alteryx Analytics

Alteryx can do so much more than I use it for, so I believe the only case where Alteryx wouldn't be needed is when a department/team had a full development team to prep data pre-analysis or already has a central data store fully stood up and standardized. Alteryx works extremely well with a multitude of BI and database solutions and would be a great fit for any team trying to speed up the typical daily grind of data prep and ETL so their analytics and data team can be more agile, accurate, and automated.

Domo

Well suited:Domo is well suited if your company is trying to be more data-centric and it is pushing this idea to executive levels. Domo apps make easy for executives to visualize and have the information needed on-the-go.I'd also argue that it is suitable for smaller companies trying to use a single tool for data analysis.Less appropriate:If you are trying to have a versatile and powerful tool for data analysis and analytics. Domo doesn't include more sophisticated data science models, or the robust visualizations of Power BI. Also, I'd argue that is not very appropriate for big organizations, since they tend to go to the bigger names (Microsoft or Tableau).

Pros

  • Alteryx handles metadata really well. The tools are intuitive in their use.
  • For analytics Alteryx it is a great platform.
  • There are barely any software bugs in the product.
  • The error messages are actually helpful to debug modules.
  • If a load-balancing application is internally developed on top of Alteryx processing nationwide universes can be really fast.

  • Centralizing data/insights in a single platform. Domo supports hundreds of connectors for different types of data sources, and once the datasets are in Domo platform, they can be joined and available for slicing and dicing snappily.
  • Self service. Once datasets are in Domo, users having access to that dataset will be able to easily build their own visualization for analysis and monitoring on their own. Users can also connect their own data (e.g. spreadsheets, .csv files) that can then further be joined with the available datasets.
  • Collaboration. The possibility to have discussion *on the data* itself is amazing. Every single dashboard page and chart card has its own chat channel, where people can mention colleagues, attach images & files, both publicly (visible/readable by everyone having access) or privately (only specifically for mentioned users).
  • Alerts, including near real time alerts. Domo allows alerts to be defined by any of the users having access, which can then be shared for others to reuse (subscribe to alert) as well. Domo delivers alerts via SMS, mobile app notification, in-browser notification and email. Powerful for executives who would like to be made aware when certain key metrics changes significantly.
  • Insights on the go. Domo's mobile app is currently unparalleled by others in terms of insight consumption and basic exploration.
  • Beautiful UI & UX.
  • Able to handle large datasets. Our largest datasets are in the range of hundreds of millions records per dataset. In total we have more than 10 billions rows from hundreds of datasets.
  • All in one platform. By pareto 80-20 principle, just by deploying and utilizing Domo well, you will get 80% of your data/insight use cases resolved.

Cons

  • Expanding more functionality is nice to have.
  • Better input and deletion of links between operations.
Rishi Bavishi, CSSGB, CAPM profile photo
  • increases site response time, since the site takes time to load
  • Domo imports data-sets from the connector and treats it like CSV format, which gives us problems on importing irregular data types (e.g. fields with JSON format)
  • more tutorials and how tos, especially on data-set management best practices

Domo is a great up-and-coming product. There are many fantastic features that are extremely compelling to our end users, which makes Domo a great fit for our organization. As with many BI tools, there are items on the wish list that could make implementation, administration and usage easier, but I believe these will be addressed over time as the product matures and evolves. The overall concept and approach of this solution has definitely raised the bar in this area of expertise and I would like to see things advance in giving the enterprise tools that will make decision making easier and more robust in the future.

Through a graphical UI one can perform engineering and development, other vendors do not have such a code-less interface.

A business management platform has to be flexible to provide solutions for customers from any business environment, but that flexibility has to be delivered without requiring complex business process re-engineering and massive data conversion efforts. Domo’s web-based architecture and wealth of connectivity options allow rapid setup for any business. If your marketing company is wrestling with channel return on investment or your educational organization is drowning in data, Domo has the tools and capability to use your data and turn it into something useful for you

Reliability and Availability

I use many programs and compared to others, Alteryx virtually never goes down, freezes up or gives an application error. Over a 4 year time period that I have used this program, any of these may have happened 3 times. It is an incredibly stable program that I feel completely confident in.

Implementation

Alteryx Analytics10.0
Based on 1 answer
There is really not much to it (the installation, that is). Once you get it installed, along with any of the add-ons (demographics, R, etc.), you are up and running almost immediately. There is really no additional setup. You can immediately begin blending data, running demographics, performing spatial queries, running predictive analysis, etc. And for many of these functions, the learning curve is quite easy.

It was a breeze. We had it implemented and were using it in production within weeks. Even before the POC was schedule to end.

Alternatives Considered

It has much more data connections and flexibility but writing queries manually is typically more flexible. It stacks up very high. Good data, Alteryx and Tableau, and a user can be prepared for an impromptu meeting and make a big impact. I haven't used anything like Alteryx for a direct comparison since they have a pretty unique piece of the market.

Domo had more of what we were looking for in a BI tool when comparing it to the competition. This is true of both simple and more robust features: from drilling capabilities and visualization management to beast mode calculations and custom app development. The team we work with now is also great and knowledgeable

Return on Investment

  • Definitely, an increase in employee efficiency. With the right tools and hardware, Alteryx can reduce the processing time significantly.
  • Automation and/or automatic report scheduling frees up a lot of time that can be used elsewhere.
  • Licensing updates are somewhat not handled easily and quite often create issues with modules to run slowly and/or not being active.

  • It helps us improve our efficiency with PPC spending
  • It has helped us improve our organic optimization
