Likelihood to Recommend

Amazon Chime

Because of the consistent and unending inconveniences and difficulties we have had with Amazon Chime, I am not likely at all to ever recommend this solution. Having a call/meeting software solution is essential to our sales cycle because most of our meetings have to happen through a computer, and if this solution is weak then it negatively effects everything. Our prospects have had a lot of difficulty connecting to calls and some meetings have been canceled altogether because of this.

Quip

I've found Quip to be extremely useful as a collaborative document sharing platform, moreso even than the Google suite, because the user interface is pleasing and intuitive, and it's much easier to organize and find files. If you prefer the File System Hierarchy style organization of Google Docs, Quip might not be for you - but if you're looking for a new take on organization with a more graphic feel to it, I would recommend giving Quip a try.I would say Quip is best suited for documents you're sharing or working on with an internal team, especially something that's for reference or a rough draft, since it's not big on formatting. This definitely isn't a platform for making a polished document to show off to customers, etc.

Pros

  • One of the few things that Amazon Chime does well is scheduling calls with Gmail. It's pretty easy to do.
  • Another thing Amazon Chime does will is basic functions like muting and unmuting the mic and screensharing.

  • Quip puts a lot of chatting capabilities into everything - likes, tags, favorites, callouts, emojis, Giphy, attachments. So communication is rich and creative. And they link chatting communication into everything.
  • Quip allows for collaboration on all documents. Highlights on document or lines or parts of documents are allowed. So collaboration can be very specific within the document. There are date time tags so it is easy to trace historically. Quip also notes when someone sees something which is handy for possible follow-ups instead of waiting for a reply of some kind.
  • Quip has done a fantastic job of expanding Quip capabilities. When we first started, only basic office documents were allowed. Now they have many other apps for project tracking, calendar, working with Salesforce records, and integration with JIRA. These are all very simple to use. It is easy to start using with no training.

Cons

  • Amazon Chime is not user friendly. People who we have meetings with who have never used Amazon Chime regularly have difficulty connecting to the call, especially if the call is international.
  • You have to download Amazon Chime to share your screen. When we need our prospects to share their screen for a product training, asking them to download a meeting software is awkward and not smooth.

  • I'd LOVE to see a better design for the folders page. It looks soooo 1998 Microsoft, for some reason to me...
  • Please, please, please redesign the folders page... It doesn't feel like it belongs to the same app

Alternatives Considered

I have used GoToMeeting, which is a major competitor to Amazon Chime, and I can confidently say that GoToMeeting is literally ten times better. We rarely have any of the issues with GoToMeeting that we do with Amazon Chime. I highly recommend GoToMeeting over Amazon Chime because your meetings and demos will go much smoother and the user interface is much cleaner.

Quip is a powerful yet simple software. It allows for all docs, spreadsheets and slides to be online, easily shareable and editable. Its interface is really easy to use and beautiful. Their templates ate AMAZING, including things like calendars!I was personally looking for an alternative to Google Drive as I don't like their interface and all of the glitchy sharing options and Quip was the answer for us.

Return on Investment

  • Amazon Chime has negatively impacted our ability to perform demos and calls. Some prospects are late to calls because Chime isn't working, or they give up and don't join the call at all.
  • Amazon Chime also makes us look unprofessional when we have to ask them to download a conferencing software for screenshare meeting, when many other alternatives are web-based.
Shane Finnegan profile photo
  • Quip allowed collaboration and communication between Salesforce team and the rest of IT as well as business users.
  • Quip allowed collaboration on documents that was very interactive and helpful to the creation process.
  • Quip frustrated us because we had so many documents that we already had but they did not work well inside of Quip.
