I think that maybe it is too much for a small organization, where the cost can be a problem. But is really flexible through its API, so a balance needs to be made when weighing pros and cons.Also, if you are thinking of extending the capabilities like us using its platform, be aware that Salesforce developers are not easy to find, and they are very costly. Consider an alternative or think about extending it outside the system.It is well suited for mid to big companies that need to manage a sales team, territories, permissions at data level, etc. It is very configurable but can have a steep learning curve for some people, and it is very recommendable to have at least one team member certified in Salesforce Administration.

- Salesforce handles searches extremely well. Many users have described it as Google for all your work stuff. The trick is to get all of your data onto the platform, but once that is done the magic of its relational database becomes invaluable.
- Development on the Salesforce platform is very painless and easy to implement. The learning curve is not steep and the coding requirements are minimal. Their motto is "clicks not code" and that becomes very evident once you start using it.
- The adaptability of the platform to any business and any aspect of the business makes it a no-brainer if you can afford the licensing costs. Once you realize that its powers go beyond CRM then the sky is the limit, assuming you can afford the licensing. But the benefits far outweigh the costs.

- Enablement -- Anaplan should invest more in both its training capability and training content. Anaplan is not the most difficult tool to learn, but having more foundation in this area would make the ramp-up process significantly easier
- Storage -- Anaplan is not a data warehouse. This is understandable given data warehousing is not their primary value proposition, but many times we run close to the storage limits of Anaplan, and it would be great if Anaplan had different storage size options for its workspaces.
- User Interface -- Anaplan's user interface could be streamlined and improved to become more intuitive and accommodate more shortcut keys.

- Salesforce is way, way, way too expensive!
- Salesforce customer support is horrible. Imagine trying to get support from a used car salesman. You get the idea. And your salesforce rep seems to change every 3 months.
- Some basic reports to help sales and very difficult to generate, especially when you want a report that includes contacts and leads in one report
- Salesforce takes way too much time and effort to administer, troubleshoot and use. Other software like Google Sheets, Google Slides, and Google Drive are so much easier by comparison. I would like to see Google get into the CRM business so we would have a better option than Salesforce.com

While it's not perfect and can be overly complicated at times, there is not another solution out there that can do what it does. To get the same functionality you would need numerous disparate tools to match the amount of functionality Salesforce has. Having it all aggregated on one platform makes the complicated parts far more bearable

All Force.com apps run on world-class data centers with backup, failover, and disaster-recovery facilities. Force.com has had a proven 99.9 percent uptime record for years. Accordingly, I only recall our instance of Salesforce having one unscheduled, brief down time over 6 years. I can't remember for sure, but it may have been due to our Internet Service Provider (ISP) versus Salesforce itself. Also, Salesforce does it's best to keep customers in the loop:

Everything is calculated in memory in the cloud. It's nearly instantaneous updates when you make changes. The only time things get a little slow is when you have a massive model with very intricate calculations...but "slow" for Anaplan is not what I would call "slow" for something like Hyperion. We used to have Hyperion calcs that ran for 60 mins before you could use data. The equivalent would be 60 seconds in Anaplan.

I feel like the support team is a little lacking in product knowledge. Several times I have contacted them to get help, and ended up finding a solution to my own problem before the team could get back to me with anything useful. I have also submitted a few bugs, and never got updates to when they were fixed in later releases.

It usually takes time to get escalated (a couple of days) and the first level of support is not good at all, most of their responses are from a script and sometimes they don't even know what they're saying. We're 3 experienced people supporting our instance, so when we go to support is because we really need it and it's something we cannot take care ourselves.

The in-person training is simply not worth the cost. After a few weeks of playing in Anaplan, I went to the basic training and knew more than the person teaching it. a year down the road, I was the first person to complete the advance training, and again could have been teaching the class better than the person running the session. Spend some time on your own trying out different things and you will get all the understanding you need to be successful.

I'm giving this a 5 simply for the anapedia outline of calculations. The online videos and trainings leave a lot to be desired, but having anapedia around to help you understand calculations has been helpful. The drawback to anapedia is the depth they go into for calculations, it is lackluster at times. Agile methodology and breaking the work down into sprints was very helpful. Implementation required a deeper dive into our data than expected for the consultants to be able to construct the data model. But once it was in place, the focus on knowledge transfer enabled us to be able to use the product effectively after the team rolled off.

Just from an organizational standpoint - we standardized our data prior to moving to Salesforce. But we essentially standardized it wrong. That's created a big disgusting mess for us know that I'll have to deal with as the Admin. Be sure you think through use cases prior to doing something like that - seek outside opinions on how the data will work best, especially depending on what else you're going to integrate with Salesforce.

The biggest advantage with Salesforce is likely the biggest detractor as well. It is largely a blank slate. The system is not customized to any one business or industry out of the box. You have to design everything - which is great if you are looking for a highly customized system, but very difficult for small or even medium sized firms without help from a 3rd party. We developed everything 100% in house. It has been quite a learning curve, but ultimately we preferred this method to farming out the work.

It's going to handle most of what you can throw at it. The problem lies in the sparsity of some datasets. When you have over 5ish dimensions of sparse data, the size of the model gets bloated for not much value. In several cases, I have had to adapt my model to account for sparsity in a way that minimized use of space, but also made interacting with the data more cumbersome.

In fact in my previous company, as a provider of a solution that integrated with Salesforce, we had customers that had thousands of sales people using Salesforce.

- Anaplan has been good to plan future fiscal years, by doing the planning in here and seeing the financial impact certain variables can produce it is easier to make decisions within the company such as hiring, eliminating certain costs etc., to achieve the financial results as set in the company goals.
- Dashboards have been really helpful for the financial executives as very specific data can be analysed and presented in the dashboards focused to specific financial teams, so it is easier to see the actual results and forecasts.
- On the negative side, since Anaplan is a complex tool to handle, it is better to have a dedicated resource or resources to the handling in Anplan. Regular business analysts could not handle their regular tasks and doing complex configurations in Anaplan without the help of well trained Anaplan resources, extra dedicated resources are needed to work with Anaplan.

- It's impossible to calculate an exact ROI because of the nature for which we use Salesforce. However, it has made reporting on income incredibly easy. I can pull reports on board member donations, or foundations, or corporate money. This allows us to see how our new strategies and campaigns are performing and adjust accordingly.
