Apricot by Social Solutions
I believe that Apricot is awesome to use if you are attempting to track or log client data. This system has the ability to be tailored to the needs of your program, and possibly going paperless. I do not think that it would be beneficial to use apricot to track/log financials that are not attached to clients.

Pega is great for corporate web apps when a certain work flow or process can be improved through automation or a more stream lined process. It can handle forms and documents really well, integrates well with many different services (including other Pega apps), can handle very complex work flows and logic to basic things like user permissions and notifications. I would say it is less suited for small business needs. I would also say it is not that great at handling media or very interactive screens such as video (something I have personally never seen done).

- We believe Apricot could offer secure web forms beyond the restricted 'Tier 1' allowance. In other words, currently, secure web forms are only available as options for Tier 1 records. This means we cannot have live registration for Tier 2 records, which is very restrictive, seeing as we would like to capture data as clients sign in at events or trainings we have.
- We would like to see a feature similar to what TurboTax presents on its site that prompts you with questions to better generate the next step. In an Apricot case, it would generate these prompts to help us build our reports. We have the criteria we're looking to fulfill, we just need to better reproduce it in the sections on the Apricot report and this type of functionality would help.

- Pega doesn't support powerful data or process modeling capabilities as compared to the other tools.
- Pega doesn't support full extraction, transformation and loading capabilities as offered by other industry-leading tools. Pega support doesn't solve tickets correctly on-time.

Pega is a great platform but you must be careful to choose an implementation partner that works well with your company culture. Our first implementation partner was not a good fit and we struggled through the first round of deployment until we find two other partners (one for Marketing and another for CRM) who truly understood and worked well with our company.

I was not personally involved in choosing Apricot but know that our ED spent 2 years researching, comparing, and trying other software before choosing Apricot. I have used Cap60 in the past and did not feel that it was able to meet the needs of every program operated under that particular Community Action Agency's umbrella of services.

Pega offers a business-friendly toolkit for defining applications. Unlike traditional BPM tools, there is much fewer complications, the technical syntax to handle in modeling processes and hardly any hard-coded programming. A well-trained business user can be trusted to create a business application from the Pegasystems BPM framework if desired. Pega also provides "Case Life cycle Management" - which allows any business user to capture and process the full scope of work in their operations, be it document handling, approvals, decision making, etc. These tasks can all be built into a process flow to automate as much as possible. The usage of design-once, the deploy-anywhere user interface has helped in saving a lot of effort.

- Apricot by Social Solutions has streamlined communication within our organization. Within the system you can set up emails to be sent when certain conditions are met. We use these email alerts to tell our case managers when they have been assigned a client, to tell supervisors when documents need to be signed, to let our finance department know when clients under specific grants have entered or left a program, etc. In 9 months of partial implementation, over 6,000 emails have been sent through Apricot.
- Apricot by Social Solutions has given us a real picture of how clients interact with our programs. For example, we thought that our Clothing & Household Goods program primarily served the same clients who come for breakfast or lunch. We've discovered that is not the case, and we meet unique clients through that program.
- Apricot by Social Solutions has improved our follow up with clients. For example, in our Employment Program, we should be following up with clients 30, 60, and 90 days after they are placed in a job. We have set up a report through Apricot that tells staff which clients have hit the 30, 60, and 90 days with their contact information right in the report.
