Oracle ATG

I would say that Oracle ATG Web Commerce is most likely better suited for companies that have a wide selection of products online as well as a customer base that is robust enough to justify this software. We were managing several stores and so we needed this software to create an atmosphere of quick and efficient searching from customers as well as some sort of guidance for products that they would like based on their searches

Infusionsoft

If you are in the business of marketing, Infusionsoft is the best software out there. If you are generating leads, sending mass emails and/or tracking a customer database, Infusionsoft will help you tremendously. If you only communicate and advertise a couple times a year, you will not see the return of investment that comes from the project. We've been using the platform for over 2 years now and still have barely scratched the surface of its full capabilities

Pros

  • Easily customizable dashboards that are versatile and fit the needs of different departments within a company.
  • Search tool is unparalleled and provides multiple parameters for narrowing down your query in a jiffy.
  • Customer service is always available and can be accessed through both email and phone around the clock.
Joseph R. Sweeney profile photo
  • Marketing Automation: Ability to setup very targeted marketing campaign sequences with specific goals. Once a prospect makes a purchase the system knows to stop sending marketing emails pushing that particular product.
  • Post-Purchase Follow Up: Many opportunities and sales fall through the cracks because businesses don't have a solid follow up plan in place. Infusionsoft allows us to automatically add customers to follow up campaigns to check in on their level of satisfaction, ask for feedback, offer new opportunities, alert about new events, or up-sell. All automatic, setup in advance!
  • Lead Scoring: Setup rules specific to your own personal goals. Assign a point system to various actions: opening an email, clicking a link, making a purchase during X timeframe, etc. Setup the point system that works for your business and get an automatic alert when contacts fall into a "hot-lead" category. This allows you to focus your sales follow up efforts to those prospects who are most likely to convert to new customers.

Cons

  • More administrative control would be helpful in regards to estimates and quoting as this was something we did regularly in legal but had to go outside the system.
Joseph R. Sweeney profile photo
  • Infusionsoft has very strict rules about the importing of email addresses. I know several users who have had issues importing and mailing to lists that Infusionsoft didn't deem to be suitable for marketing purposes.
  • Because Infusionsoft is such a powerful solution it's easy to be overwhelmed when starting to use it. Because of this, many customers don't take advantage of all the features Infusionsoft offers.

I truly believe in the power of automation for lots of businesses and couldn't imagine going back to a situation where I didn't have that powerful tool at my disposal. With all the strategy and work that goes into a successful implementation of Infusionsoft, it would be unwise to move away from something that is providing such good results.

Infusionsoft is certainly powerful enough to do anything you need it to do and for the average computer-user it should be easy to figure out. Anyone who has used other CRMs should have no problem adapting to Infusionsoft.

OMG, it's all in one and that compromises everything, fundamentally. If you want a race car, invest in a race car. If you want a dune buggy, get that. If you want a boat that floats, go for it.

It may be easy to get someone on chat or phone for which I give these guys credit. But this does not mean you will get the answers you want or like. It's a buggy system. Why? Because it's all in one. The CRM is decent. The cart a joke. The email editor laughable. Affiliate partner function serves a huge business risk unless programmed by a NASA level consultant for which you can and must pay dearly. There are just too many bugs overall.

This training is taught often to the lowest common denominator so as to help as many customers of theirs as possible. We do the training and coaching and implementations for our clients. But clients who I know who have been to their training get trained well. The gap that can exist lies in you doing your part and really investing in using and building out the application. The training and education is only as good as your willingness to apply it.

It was frustrating as hell. You can't teach a kid to ride a bike in a seminar, you can't do it over the phone with tech support, unless you have some talent and the patience of Job. Being is business is hard enough. Adding new software is a pain in the butt. The path of least resistance is to find a professional who lives in this stuff and pay up for the talent. It's less expensive in the long run and you'll likely not need to self medicate. As much.

Alternatives Considered

We're married to Oracle ATG Web Commerce for the time being, and have been users for about six years now. We are slowly moving auxiliary features out of ATG and into custom in house solutions that give us purpose built, more responsive, and more appropriate functionality. Eventually, ATG will serve only core features like catalog management and order processing. All other activities will be handled externally as microservices that we control, rather than relying on the black box of ATG.

The others are not trying to be all things to all people. The others don't pretend their solution is the end-all-be-all to save small business owners. They are not all in one and don't pretend to be, regardless of the price points, from lower to higher. We used Infusionsoft because I, as the owner of the company, was willing to invest hundreds of hours learning and using the system. Plus, I paid out thousands of dollars over the first several years for others to help me integrate it with our marketing campaigns because I am not a programmer and never will be. I enjoy doing this kind of work on top of the coaching and advising I do for a living. Then I made automation and content marketing a natural extension of my business. It complimented by business model, until recently, when we found a better solution that does not try to be all things to all people and save the world.

Scalability

Pricing is user and email and function based. Way too many pay walls and not native function for scaling. It's scaleable with NASA level marketing automation talent you must pay to engage. Otherwise, it gets expensive quickly for scaling to a true small business, which is what they target. Over 25 users and you're screwed. Look at the competition first, evaluate what you really need for your business and start there. Keep it simple, build your cash flow and confidence in the people you hired to make this work and then scale. Don't get sucked into the dream that this thing will help you sell your book to millions and you get famous while hanging on your boat or whatever. Building a small business is hard enough. Adding software often adds complexity in order to successfully scale.

Return on Investment

  • We were able to drive sales for one of our clients up by 50% over the course of a 6 month window by revamping their online web store with Oracle ATG.
  • Sharing data and communication improved greatly between legal/finance and marketing.
Joseph R. Sweeney profile photo
  • When used properly, it has been the backbone of many of my client's businesses. The ROI is completely worthwhile if you actually use the platform.
