Considered Both Products
Dropbox
Chose Dropbox
Microsoft Teams is very unorganized and a little chaotic when it comes to file organization.
Chose Dropbox
The filing system that Teams is based on is confusing when outside of Teams which then forces you to use only Teams to look for a collaboration. It is tough to search for things in Teams, but their keyword search does work well, however, you really need to know part of the …
Chose Dropbox
Dropbox was a more commonly accepted and understood platform to use with the team of consultants.
Chose Dropbox
My office uses both because Dropbox is more of a place where you save and share files, not a place for constant correspondence with clients
Chose Dropbox
OneDrive it is very similar to, however it integrates well into windows.

Teams is better for common communication as well as working on the exact same document at the same time
Chose Dropbox
I do not use alternative Dropbox solutions. I know DocuSign, but when needed, it was provided by the Client.
Chose Dropbox
Dropbox makes it easier to share everything by being able to provide a link and it doesn't expire. When using WeTransfer, the emails sometimes get lost in the shuffle of all other emails coming in and you only have a certain amount of time to access the link so if you don't …
Chose Dropbox
I'd say it is better than Cloudinary and Google Drive. Ease of use and options with the product are better.

However, when it comes to versioning and file maintenance I'd still say that GitHub is the best option here.
Chose Dropbox
Dropbox is similar to SharePoint, but I have found that the search functions are better and DropBox also makes organizing and accessing files offline easier.

I love Google Drive, but am limited on using it because many of my clients and stakeholders are in China.
Chose Dropbox
I'm not thrilled with SharePoint and it doesn't allow us to share documents externally, but I find the setup and organization better. If Dropbox could streamline the sharing process and improve the file management, I feel like we could eliminate SharePoint as the only reason …
Chose Dropbox
In terms of refreshing, Dropbox takes a longer time.
Chose Dropbox
I prefer Dropbox to Box. It's more familiar, and the interface is more elegant. With Dropbox I know where things are and how it is going to function. With Box, not so much. For my personal use, I also use Dropbox and like that I am again in that familiar universal workspace.
Chose Dropbox
I would say OneDrive is definitely more glitchy with syncs than Dropbox and users often get confused with the layout and the login (is it a personal account or business account? I'm logging in with my business account but it says the account doesn't exist? Why is my stuff …
Chose Dropbox
While there is some overlap in functionality, Slack and Teams offer different solutions from Dropbox. I have mostly used Slack for communication with a 3rd party partner. I am not aware of Dropbox having messaging capabilities. I mostly use Teams for video meetings and the …
Chose Dropbox
We use both programs for our business. Teams are more real-time and are mainly used by our management team. Dropbox is used by our entire team and seems to give easier access to our field technicians. It is much easier to access by mobile devices and is preferred by our field …
Chose Dropbox
Dropbox is easy to access and upload and download data. The data is secure and safe. [Files are put in an] organized manner, folder creation is easy, and [adding] titles, labeling, and tagging are easy.
Chose Dropbox
Dropbox is similar to OneDrive and although we use OneDrive for our day to day file storage as we are Microsoft based - our partners and collaborators often use Dropbox so we use it for our document storage with those organizations. Dropbox has been better for us that Google …

We actually use both platforms and are currently migrating over to Egnyte as our sole system. Egnyte is superior in its [HIPAA] Compliance, its GDPR options, and its overall security. Dropbox is a great application for smaller companies, but I feel like we outgrew the …
Chose Dropbox
Dropbox would appear to be easier to use. It provides the facilities that we need. It is easier to work with to get some basic tasks done. It does not have the complexity of SharePoint, but, that complexity is not required in a lot of different situations. It also does not have …
Microsoft Teams
Chose Microsoft Teams
I've reviewed Dropbox and prefer Microsoft Teams. Microsoft Teams has more features and functions that are more useful for my organization's needs. Its design helps us to meet our goals, solve problems remotely, meet and communicate all in one place. The platform works for us …

Dropbox
Ultimately, Dropbox just works better when working crossplatform between Windows, Mac, Andoid, ios. It's snappier compared to Google Drive and is overall a more pleasant experience. The lack of integration with the rest of Google's suite is a small sacrifice. Image preview is also snappier and more pleasant to use compared to drive. Though any large batches that need review should be relegated to a better image gallery hosting platform like pic-time.

Positive: The virtual workspace created for a work team within the same company, for the resemblance of information and communications in one place.Negative: The access for members of a non-profit organization who have external emails from the host but need the same access as an internal person since their volunteer work is part of the very core of the federation.

Pros
Dropbox
  • Dropbox's real-time collaboration features, including simultaneous editing and commenting, have revolutionized the way our teams work together.
  • On multiple occasions, we've accidentally overwritten important documents or needed to retrieve deleted files. With Dropbox, we can easily revert to previous versions or recover deleted files, preventing data loss and minimizing disruptions.
  • Dropbox excels in making file sharing a breeze. With just a few clicks, we can generate shareable links or invite colleagues to shared folders.

  • Virtual meetings - ease of set up and execution
  • File sharing! We build channels for projects, and being able to invite only project members is huge!
  • Peer-to-peer communications - being able to "ping" one of my colleagues, either text, video or call-only, on-demand, is what runs our business.

Cons
Dropbox
  • Change the name of the root folder, the "()" can cause problems sometimes with some tools trying to find paths inside of the root folder.
  • The upload queue becomes slow trying to upload files that have more than ~500mb of file size, even if I have 1 Gbit of speed, Dropbox gets stuck uploading single files with that rule.
  • Sometimes we can't move a shared folder from root location.
  • LAN sync seems not to be working in my experience.

  • The feature of notifications in the mobile application could be improved. Sometimes notifications of different teams are not visible and are only visible when the application is opened.
  • It uses lots of computational resources while running and thus, slows down the system sometimes.
  • It allows a few channels per team. The number of channels could be increased for better productivity.

Dropbox is a user-friendly, easy tool which requires little to no skill and they offer a free version with a good amount of storage available. There are other file sharing tools available however at a cost. Dropbox free version I have used for years and it serves every purpose I need.

Microsoft Teams is included with our Office 365 subscription and we have no intention of migrating off of Office 365 and Microsoft products. Since Microsoft Teams is included for free with our Office 365 subscription, and since we enjoy all the features, benefits, and functionality, there is no question that our team will continue to use the product

Usability
Dropbox
[Its] functionality and usability are very good, however[,] on every computer that I have ever installed the app on, Dropbox assumes I want it to update the files every time I start the system up. That's not always true, but the app assumes it is. I can switch that function off, but I would rather that function default to "Off" and then I can decide to turn it on as needed.

User experience has been much better than the previous Skype for Business app. It has an easy-to-use interface with persistent chats. The search feature is very fast and useful. MS Teams has mostly focused on Collaboration and team building features which are very useful for organizational communications. Since Teams is accessible from multiple platforms like Laptop, Desktop, Mobile phones, etc it has been very convenient from a Mobility perspective.

Dropbox is really useful, you can access any file from anywhere and you can upload and even edit files online, but, sometimes it can be slow. Downloading, uploading, and syncing is a bit slow, it can take several minutes. Furthermore, the search engine for large amounts of data can be slow too and it is not powerful.

Support Rating
Dropbox
Our experience with support has been limited which is a good thing. We haven't experienced any major issues with the service and most of our service interactions have been useability questions which we were able to find answers for within their knowledge base. For the few times we have reached out to support, the responses were on point, quick, and our issue was resolved in one interaction. I appreciate not being routed to a chatbot or offshored support.

Using Microsoft Teams has resulted in much faster business communications with both co-workers and consultants. There has been little need for support with this software as the interface is very intuitive and the product is overall very well designed. We did encounter an issue with the built-in phone service, however, this was quickly resolved by the support team.

Alternatives Considered
Dropbox
Dropbox gives more visual control over the success of uploading. WeTransfer uploads and then sends a link to the recipient. If something goes wrong during the upload, there doesn't appear to be a way to begin again from the dropping point. With Dropbox, I can watch as it uploads. If I lose a connection, it will continue uploading where it left off when I get a new connection. This is vital in transferring large files. If WeTransfer offers that, I was never able to figure it out.

Our company and IT department previously used Skype for our communication needs. Skype was not dependable in my opinion, because it seems each time I used it during a call and/or a meeting, I and several other team members would get disconnected more than once. This caused a great interruption of our meeting, caused team members to have to ask others to repeat themselves and caused a general lack of interest in employee attendance during meetings.

Honestly, this tool is worth every penny. Yes, it's not free and you pay for the quality of services and the license. But the ROI and the benefits are all there. Also, the renewal, negotiation, and contract terms are all very well explained by our Microsoft account manager, and she's a charm.

I used Skype for Business to take calls, hold conferences, and provide remote assistance to users. Microsoft Teams, on the other hand, is superior to Skype for Business in my opinion. My job entails a lot of screen sharing.

Dropbox
  • Helped us to streamline boxes of papers into electronic folders.
  • Enables a more solid backup of necessary files, not dependent on one specific computer or one specific box of papers.
  • Enabled a quicker search to locate specific files than the previously used operations.

  • I'm not sure I can point to a specific ROI, but it has improved our ability to communicate and work more effectively together.
  • It's also nice to have records of every interaction, photo, and document that has been shared. Less chance of something completely disappearing.
