    In situations where business continuity needs are high, ShadowProtect backups provide the ability to keep operations running with very minimal downtime, even in situations like crypto-locked data. If a backup server is set up in an environment to resume a live server from backup, this is even more helpful. In situations where clients don't care as much about quickly recovering their data, they can go without a solution like this.

    Veeam Backup & Replication

    I think Veeam Backup & Replication Community Edition is well suited to virtual environments where some VM is not that big, so you can use PowerShell script which runs Veeam Backup of smaller VM, and then u can create a schedule in task scheduler so it runs automatically. Keep in mind that VeemZip always makes a full backup copy, so a bigger VM will take a longer time to create a backup.

    • You can virtualize your backups using Virtualbox, a free program that works on any PC.
    • Backups are versatile, and you can back up to any location you'd like.
    • Alerting can be set up for failed backups.

    Veeam Backup & Replication

    • Veeam has built some very useful application-specific tools for recovering exchange server items, emails, etc.
    • Veeam is relatively simple to set up, but provides a lot of extended features should the need come one day. Features like replication and backup copy were not originally implemented in our project goals.
    • Support is outstanding, their SLAs are clearly outlined, and their engineers are easy to understand and their ticket opening flow is simple enough.

    ShadowProtect

    • The replication offsite can have issues over time. It takes manual involvement to keep it working right.
    • SPX remote management isn't easy out of the box.

    Veeam Backup & Replication

    • Needs to be able to backup linux and mac instances as we have some use for that
    • I have heard nightmares for the cloud based backups and due to that I have steered from that attempt and went with a different company.
    • License costs could be better as the market has gotten more competitive in recent years.

    Veeam is fairly simple in terms of how it is set up; its not an overly-complicated dashboard that can be intimidating to less technically-inclined users. Veeam also offers good instructional videos to help users work through how to do specific functions. I appreciate that they have specific video tutorials rather than having users scroll through a cumbersome manual.

    The Veeam Backup & Replication solution is up and running every time you need it as it was planned. In more than 3 years that we have been using the product every night, it might have failed or presented an error once or twice, so the availability percentage is almost at 100%.

    Veeam does a good job with backing up our servers in a timely manner. We are still at the beginning of our Veeam use and are pleased with the speed at which we can access the system as well as the backups and restore points. Veeam is definitely superior to our previous backup system in terms of speed and accessibility

    We don’t need support often, but when we do, the support has been strong. Sometimes it is hard to determine how to access support for the exact issue we are having. There are a decent forum and online ticketing system. Support for the cloud center seems to be provided only by phone, though.

    Support response can be slow and sometimes tedious if you have a non-generic issue in your environment. Due to my experience with Veeam, I often discover the solutions before support does, but on the rare occasion where I need a higher tier of support, their experience and skill set are excellent. If you truly find something odd in your environment, Veeam Support, Development and their teams of engineers will figure it out and provide custom hot-fixes when necessary.

    (I assume this question should say "Veeam" and not "Crownpeak Universal Consent Platform")Planning is key. Planning your backup schedule, size, data restore points, replication if you're doing that, &c. Testing is also important; make sure you back something up and then do a test restore. Set up alerts so you know if things aren't working (or even if they are, always good to know that too).

    We have servers dedicated to backups at our client sites so doing a wholesale hardware replacement is really tough. We also have our own cloud that is fairly young, so we don't want to move to a product that forces us into their cloud. We want to use both our cloud and grow into the vendors cloud as it makes sense.Both Veeam and Unitrends are very strong and we have chosen to switch to Unitrends. Veeam is ok but a bit tough to get into, and they don't have their own cloud so you have to source your own. In some ways, it is a bit clunky.Unitrends has their own cloud here in Canada and we have an option to use our hardware or their appliances; our cloud or theirs and it fits what we need

    Veeam Backup & Replication

    We used Zerto and CA Arcserve to address these needs without migrating to Veeam Backup & Replication. Zerto is a very successful instant backup and we are still using it now. It does what Veeam application cannot do in instant replication. CA Arcserve, on the other hand, is clearly lagging behind the Veeam Backup & Replication product and does not meet today's requirements.

    Higher performance and smaller backup windows may put too much stress on
    production storage, and therefore, on its performance and Availability
    to production workloads. To reduce stress on production storage, version
    9.5 introduces a new way of reading VM disks that is optimized for
    enterprise storage.

    • Veeam Backup & Replication made it possible to restore a crashed virtual server quickly and without problems to another Hyper-V host. With Windows Server Backup it would have taken longer and more effort to get the same result.
    • With Veeam Backup & Replication we're making sure we have a good and functional backup which makes our software developers feel safer that their projects are really getting backupped
