Semrush is the ally SEO tool for any digital marketing agency. It unifies in a single platform the main SEO and Local SEO indicators. It allows day-to-day monitoring of the positions in the Google SERP considering the organic competitors. This is the basis of the reports sent to the clients of the SEO projects.
  • Make SEO reports quickly
  • Daily Google SERP SEO Alerts
  • Organic investigation of the competition
  • Reports of SERP's only of Local SEO
  • Checking local files for all countries

I use Semrush as a college student to practice discovering marketing insights and running SEO campaigns. I have never had an inside view of the software that helps companies run digital marketing strategies before, so having this opportunity with Semrush was amazing. One business problem that Semrush addresses is that many of the great features that they offer are only available through their Trends Subscription plan. I did find that this prevented me from exploring many of the tools and features that they have but at the same time I understand why I didn't have access to them because I did not pay any money for the subscription I currently have which is Pro.
  • Creates Simplified Reports
  • Easily Monitor and Manage Traffic Analytics
  • Allows you to Perform Advanced SEO Tasks with Ease
  • Semrush Only Provides Data for One Search Engine, Google
  • Some Competitive Analysis Features Cost an Additional $200 per Month Extra

Semrush is well suited for marketers that work in services like SEO, PPC, SMM, Keyword Research, Competitive Research, PR, Content Marketing, Marketing Insights, Campaign Management. As well as for college students in marketing who are learning the what it takes and what it means to be a marketing analysts.

We use it for a variety of clients, especially ecommerce. It's pretty robust. A bit of a learning curve, but it's continually evolving and it seems becoming a bit more user-friendly. When I want to research a specific part or analyze a client or competitor, Semrush has what I need to do so.
  • Competitor Analysis
  • Site Audit - Problems with Sites
  • Paid Ad Viewing
  • Keyword Research
  • PPC Research
  • Bridging the gaps between their products within the suite.
It's strong for someone who's pretty OCD like myself. I am always shooting for 90+ out of 100 on their site audit tool. It is very helpful to know where things are broken. Using Semrush religiously sets us apart from other providers in our space. It shows our dedication and attention to detail without a lot of manual work.

I work for an internet company, so understanding SEO and SEM is of extreme value to us. While our core competency and product delivery has been website design and development for nearly 20 years, we've recently made a huge push toward digital marketing for clients. As the digital strategist on the team, it's necessary for me to be able to track SEO progress, competitors, etc. This tool is only used by our digital marketing team.
  • The ability to crawl every tiny detail of a website is great. Not only that, but SEMRush breaks down problems by Errors, Warnings, and Notices. By prioritizing technical issues and content needs, it makes it very easy to know where to start optimizing a site.
  • The competitor analysis feature in SEMRush is extremely robust. In fact, we switched to SEMRush from another program specifically for how robust the competition feature is.
  • SEMRush covers a wide range of needs. If you need social media insights and a tool to schedule content, this does it. If you need comprehensive website audits, it does that too. From keyword tracking to backlink audits, this tool has everything.
  • The report builder feature is extremely helpful. It allows you to drag and drop certain features from your project and build out a report.
  • Since several areas of SEMRush are still in the Beta phase, it can be quite buggy at times. However, their customer service team is very quick to respond and resolve any bugs you find.
If you need to audit backlinks, this tool does it. If you want to analyze your keywords and assess content page by page, it does that too. Essentially, any need you run into in the digital strategy world, SEMRush has a solution. It can be time-consuming, as the learning curve is pretty steep. But it's an excellent resource.

Semrush is an essential tool that every marketing team needs! We've had an arsenal of a few tools like Ahrefs, Moz, Alexa, and others, but this year we've shed all but Semrush. The easy integration makes for an incredibly simple learning process. Semrush is definitely a consideration you need to acknowledge.
  • Keyword magic tool is incredible
  • Position tracking is great for SEO specialists
  • The link building tool is the easiest we've found yet
  • Overall theme and layout could be revamped
  • A top suggestion for keyword options would be nice
  • Listing management is limited
We use Semrush effectively for finding keywords when writing relevant blog posts for our weekly schedule. Being able to have a tool that assists with SEO while providing a source of content inspiration is an excellent addition to our marketing team. I can't really think of a less appropriate scenario; you use the tool when you see fit!

As my personal brand began to get traction, more people were being led to my website to sign up for workshops. Still, in the bringing phase, I knew I could make improvements and needed to know which areas required that. SEMrush seemed like the best tool at the time and was! It was able to address the flaws in the website (such as speed, lack of metadata) and suggest solutions.
  • Efficiently research keywords.
  • Keep track of ranking.
  • Further understanding of competition.
  • Interface learning curve.
For an up-and-coming brand, this might be a great alternative to SEO companies. Though it takes time to learn and understand the ins and out of the platform, the insight you get from the data is worth it. And, knowledge of this side of the business is beneficial as well.

I use Semrush to teach students SEO, SEM, and Display advertising strategies and tactics. Semrush has been wonderful to use in the classroom to help students practice online marketing techniques (Keyword research, Site audit, competitive analysis & content marketing). Students find Semrush helps them easily grasp the critical skills needed in online marketing.
  • Competitive Research - Gather insight into what the competition is doing for SEO and SEM
  • Site Audit - Quickly allows you to find technical SEO issues and provides suggestions for correcting issues
  • Keyword Research - Provides insight into question and long-tail keywords
  • Data Accuracy - Sometimes the position tracking and KD % are a bit off. However, the data provides you with a decent gauge for making decisions.
  • Learning Curve - If you are new SEO or SEM, it may take you a bit to learn the all the tool sets in Semrush. However, they provide a lot of good tutorials as well as a helpful blog.
  • Cost - The tool is worth every penny. However, some smaller businesses or freelancers may see the cost as a barrier. They should do a cost benefit analysis to see how this product can quickly pay for itself by saving time and growing the business.
Semrush is an all-in-one research tool for online marketers who manage SEO, SEM, Content Marketing, and Social Media.

Semrush is our "swiss army knife". As an agency that focuses on search engine optimization, Semrush is a necessity. It makes us better and more efficient. We don't have to spend hours chasing down data and can all look at the same metrics. It makes my job much easier.
  • Provides data on search engine metrics
  • Keeps the team on the same page
  • Keeps up with the industry and the needs of search engine marketers
  • There is a learning curve for new users
  • Lots of data, but it requires analysis from an experienced SEO
  • The plans suck for agencies - can be expensive to have mutiple seats
Any agency or in-house SEO team should have a subscription. It's the must-have tool. for SEOs everywhere.

Semrush is a tool I use daily for SEO research. I love how much data I'm able to sort through and use for website and blog growth. I haven't found anything else like it for finding high-quality keyword research.
My company is small so I use it myself to make decision.
  • Keyword Research
  • Competitive Analysis
  • Backlink Gaps
  • It would be nice to be able to track a specific URL and have that saved so I can go back and look at specific pages I want to follow, not just highest traffic or top keywords without haveing to go to the next level. Post tracking is limited to 3 at the first level.
  • Pricing is on tiers, so some features just are out of reach for a small company.
  • It has a bit of a learning curve so if you aren't ready to learn it, you might not use it.
Yes, I already recommend it to others who are bloggers as they focus on growing traffic and SEO is the best way to grow your site organically. Keyword research is very important to bloggers who are trying to reach specific pageview numbers and without good solid, keyword research it will take a very long time.

We use SEMRush as a campaign management and competitor analysis tool for our SEO campaigns at TLo Ventures. While I believe you can use it for research into PPC campaigns and competition there, we mainly use it for the organic side of things. There are many features of SEMrush and we do not nearly use them all, but the ones we focus on are the Projects (for tracking keyword visibility, site problems, link tracking), and then the standard keyword/domain research tools like the "Organic Research" tab (for looking at what keywords a domain ranks for or what domains rank for a keyword). If you ever hear of a website or keyword and want to get some basic ideas of volume, competition, difficulty, etc, SEMRush is great for that.
  • Competitive organic research. They do a great job of showing you what any website ranks for, what keywords they bid on in PPC, what ads they are showing display-wise, etc.
  • Organic keyword research. You can see related terms to a specific keyword and get estimated volume, historical volume trends, "difficulty" scores, etc.
  • Link analysis. They have a great suite of tools that find links to your website automatically, track links you currently have and measure their "toxicity" levels, traffic volume, etc.
  • Tool organization/presentation. There are so many features and tools in their program (which is a great thing) but it really can be confusing sometimes. Remembering where you have to go to get a certain metric can be difficult.
  • Keyword/traffic volume accuracy. Some of the historical trends for keywords or domains seem off, especially when you compare a domain where you actually know the history. But that is an infamously difficult task.
  • Better explanations of some of their tools. Some give you explanations upfront but then it's hard to remember how to use each one.
SEMRush is a great tool for any SEO campaign, especially if you are doing a lot of continued research on new keywords to target, if you have competitors to beat, links to acquire or monitor, etc. You can have multiple projects at one time, so it's great for a small to medium size agency that is managing multiple clients. There is a bit of a learning curve with it, but if you get in there and use it frequently, it provides a lot of value.

We use SEMRush to monitor and adjust the usability of our company website in order to preserve the flow for those who search for us and our long-time users. It allows us to see where we rank in the searchability and how easy it is to use our website. It identifies broken links and repetitive links or pages on our website.
  • Tracks the broken links
  • search-ability factoring
  • ease of use for the website
  • Huge learning curve
  • not the most user friendly of products
  • hard to understand formatting
It is great for finding out how your website search results rank. Great for finding broken links and repetitive issues on websites. Not good for beginners.

The whole company is using it (we're a small team of two, with several contractors). We primarily use the SEO audit tool, position tracker, keyword magic tool, link building tool, and backlink tool. Also, the SEMrush Google docs add-on (that you can only have if you have a paid subscription to SEMrush) called "SEO Writing Assistant" has been super helpful for my content team. We use all of these solutions to analyze and address SEO issues with our clients' websites, and also to inform their content marketing campaigns through keyword and competitive research.
  • Ease of use. Hands down, SEMrush is easier to pick up and use than alternatives like Screaming Frog.
  • Robust. There are so many options and tools within SEMrush that it would probably take years to master them all.
  • Reporting. SEMrush offers a ton of automated reports that they'll send straight to your inbox, but they also have a report creation tool that you can use to make branded reports to send to your own clients. It's a drag and drop tool that functions a lot like a website builder, with different "widgets" that show different data.
  • Tutorial and learning content. Because SEMrush is so huge, it can be frustrating to want to use a tool and not be able to find high-quality reference material on using it. I wish they'd invest a little more in their blogs and video tutorials so users could quickly and easily get the most out of the program.
  • Price. I pay $200/month in order to be able to service about 5-8 client projects simultaneously - it feels a bit steep for me, since I'm not using every single tool within the suite. It would be nice if there was some way to only pay for the tools you use.
SEMrush is great for SEOs and marketing/advertising agencies whose clients need in-depth SEO information. It's also great for bigger companies who have the budget to invest in SEO and want a solution that encompasses tons of different marketing and PR tools.

We use SEMrush to monitor the ranking of our location sites and to monitor keyword changes within our own site as well as review Google updates. SEMrush is also helpful in analyzing the performance of competitor websites and allows us to have an insight into any changes we need to make. SEMrush has really made the SEO monitoring process easy and, in my experience, has been the most accurate source out there.
  • SEMrush can be easily customized to show different forms of stats. We use it to view a general overview of our website and also monitor the ranking of specific keywords. It will tell us how competitive that keyword is as well as where our page ranks on it.
  • The site analysis tool is also really useful and updated often. The site analysis tool will scan a website and report any errors it encounters and how to better optimize the website SEO-wise. This is useful in catching issues that could pose a big problem and result in a penalty from Google.
  • Another great tool is the backlink analysis feature. It will show every website that links back to yours and also provide a score to the website that will tell you whether or not that backlink is toxic. From there, it's really easy to disavow those links and prevent any future ranking issues. It can also be used to see what sites are linking back to your competitors.
  • SEMrush is really feature rich, however, it can be confusing at times as to what certain tools do and how to use them. It would be great if SEMrush provided some sort of short tutorial when they launch a new tool.
  • While SEMrush is great at continuously adding new keywords, it can be hard to find good data on the lesser trafficked keywords. I'm not sure whether it is possible, but it would be great to get more accurate stats for smaller keywords or location-specific keywords. The stats for those are sparse right now.
SEMrush is great for any SEO team or manager. I can't imagine running any sort of SEO campaign without it. It does just about everything and provides a lot of in-depth stats that are crucial for running a good campaign. I would highly recommend SEMrush to anyone or company that is running a website. The tools it provides are invaluable.

SEMRush is used to run SEO reports and identify keyword opportunities for our clients. It gives us a turnkey way to stay on top of essential maintenance tasks and automate some of our marketing efforts. It is typically most important, as we onboard a new account, as a way of generating insight quickly and efficiently.
  • Keyword Analysis
  • SEO Reporting
  • Interface is fairly complex
  • Reports can take a while to generate
SEMRush is great for pulling information relevant to SEO for research purposes. However, a fair amount of intuition and experience must still be leveraged in interpreting the data provided, else one will find oneself going down many irrelevant rabbit holes fairly quickly.

SEMRush was used within the whole organization at my last job. The best part of the tool is that it integrates many aspects of a good SEO tool. Being a consulting [company] it was always important for us to get a complete overview of the overall performance and important KPIs of any given website/client. SEMRush was always to the point to provide us needed input for best possible performance overview.
  • First and foremost, it's an all-in-one marketing toolkit and provides an overview to all the major KPIs for any given website.
  • Also, I love how you can choose the country right before adding the URL of the domain one wants to analyze.
  • Also, the analysis of paid traffic/keywords also helps not just in SEO but also in SEM.
  • The fact that one can do backlink, keyword and competitive analysis, rank audits just under one window is great about SEMRush.
  • Often I have realized that it crashed when a heavy amount of data was exported. Of course, I don't know if it's my PC/browser or the tool itself.
  • SEMRush can also work on making working on multiple devices/platforms easier. This would improve the usability a lot.
  • The tool itself has a steep learning curve which is not necessarily bad as every detailed/comprehensive tool is a little complicated. But the UI/UXcan surely has a room for improvement.
I can barely think of any scenario where SEMRush is less relevant. The reason I say this is because for any organization which had a produce/service which is cold online and has competitors this tool will drive a lot of value. It is a complete toolset for companies to analyze their online landscape, competitors, where they stand online and their online brand footprint. It very well covers SEO and SEM audits.
