CRM for the rest of us
Overall Satisfaction with Insightly
I have been test driving Insightly for a while, preparatory to a product launch. We will be rolling it out to our organization.
Pros
- It integrates well with email, without any fuss.
- The interface is extremely simple and intuitive, so it is easy to use even intermittently, and pick up where you left off.
- Upgrade path is fairly painless and logical.
Cons
- When I edit a task, it is easy to forget to set a time for the next action (phone call etc.), so it might be a good idea if the system prompted you when you make an edit to a task, that you should update the due date.
- it would be handy if overdue tasks (or any of the task windows) would have the option of ordering by name, or by company name, not just the one default by date.
- In tasks, I use the free form description to keep track of contacts and/or attempts, with comments, it works, but this could be made easier, perhaps in line with prompting for the change in due date.
My use of Insightly has been a bit haphazard, but we're going to be rolling it out, because it has not given us any trouble during the extended trials. Minor improvements might be desirable here or there, but the whole thing simply works and is not a burden to work with. In short, for me it strikes the right balance between functionality and simplicity, which is hard to do. It is one of the better solutions I have ever experienced in this area.
I have not used Salesforce recently, but nothing of my experience with Insightly would even make me curious, as I never liked Salesforce in the past.
Insightly Feature Ratings
Using Insightly
2 - Sales & Marketing, managing our sales process and our business relationships from beginning to end.
2 - Basic intelligence and some computer savvy. In general, basic common sense and intuition will suffice for people to use Insightly. In other words, little or no support effort has been needed.
- Simplicity and functionality
- Well rounded feature set
- Ease of integration
- Intuitive interface
- Having been through numerous generations of CRMs in different settings, the smooth, minimalist interface of Insightly made adoption exceptionally easy, and that means better data capture, which is key to people realizing productive benefits of the system. This creates value each and every day.
- Too early for us to anticipate development, but clearly Insightly lends itself to increasingly close integration, as other demands develop, including lead capture from the web, and so on.
Evaluating Insightly and Competitors
- Product Usability
- Vendor Reputation
- Third-party Reviews
Realistically probably the free trial. Nothing beats having the opportunity to get first hand experience.
Nothing.
Insightly Implementation
- Implemented in-house
Yes - Actually, everything evolved smoothly from evaluation to implementation.
I will admit to some bias from many application in this area that often made sales harder instead of easier, but Insightly proved very quickly that it did not get in the way, and that the benefits of using it consistently outweighed the effort involved, so that adoption was extremely easy.

Change management was minimal - Again, based on past experience with CRMs, I was prejudiced that too many systems made it needlessly hard to use them, and felt like an administrative burden.
Insightly allows you to use it as much or as little as you like, but there's always a benefit to providing better data, so that it makes my life easier, and that is what gets you over the adoption hurdle.

- There were no "significant" issues during implementation, to such a degree that I can't remember any.
Insightly Support
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Quick Resolution Good followup Knowledgeable team Problems get solved Kept well informed No escalation required Immediate help available Support understands my problem Support cares about my success Quick Initial Response | None |
No - So far there has been no need to go to premium support, but if/when the adoption expands that is probably a good option.
The most exceptional experience was that we never needed any exceptional support, and really hardly any support at all. Throughout, the experience has been so intuitive that most questions answer themselves very quickly. Some features maybe a bit quirky, but they never get in the way - you get used to them quickly.
