Scale Computing HC3: the best VM platform
Overall Satisfaction with Scale Computing HC3
We use the Scale platform across multiple service assets. Initially, we implemented Scale for running virtual servers on our ERP system, we quickly realized we were under using it and added multiple virtual machines for other services with the company.
Pros
- The initial install was simple and straight forward, we purchased setup support but didn't need to use it.
- Virtual machine setup is fast and easy.
- The ability to store ISOs for new virtual machine installs is a great time-saving device.
- The need for backups of virtual machines is satisfied with the built-in redundancy.
Cons
- The firmware update process requires a complete restart if the system. The ability to schedule upgrades would be great.
- The UI is a bit cumbersome, using icons instead of labels is not SOP but it works.
With the Scale platform, we have been able to run through staffed upgrades of our ERP Staten in days. Previously, this process too months because of physical hardware limitations.
- We have been able to retire multiple servers instead of replacing them. This has saved 10s of thousands of dollars.
- We have been able to test separately and combine services to find the perfect balance. This would previously have required multiple official servers.
There Scale solution is easier, vastly simplified, more robust and fault tolerant, and faster than any other solution we've tried.

The only time I have had to contact support was related to an issue with converting a Hyper-V VM to the Scale HC3. My questions were answered within minutes with the info I needed, easy peasy :).
Using Scale Computing HC3
2 - The 2 IT Admins use the Scale administrative console, hundreds of employees use the virtual machines themselves either by virtue of the data sets created by services that run on one of the HC3 VM's or as a physical user of a specific VM.
1 - Just me, but that has been enough. I touch the HC3 so little that I hate describe myself as the Scale HC3 Admin, but there ya go :).
- converted legacy machines
- ERP specific VMs
- service based machines that run only at specific times
- test machines for software/service evaluation
- VM's for users that they can logon too from anywhere and still have access to local resources
- Testing for services and applications
- We are considering an expansion of storage so that we can increase the limits currently placed on user storage on the USER VM's
