Overall Satisfaction with TriNet

My representative, Joyce Kane, is always helpful and readily available. However, if an urgent issue arises and I choose to call instead of email (our main means of communication), I cannot leave a voicemail as TriNet's voicemails convert to emails. This defeats the purposes of reaching out via telephone. Additionally, the intra-organization communication is lacking at times especially between different departments.
I work for a consulting firm that processes payroll for over 200 small business clients in the U.S. We use several platforms to process said payroll but TriNet is our go-to for multi-state clients who require PEO services all over the country. This allows our HR and Legal departments to have less of a load when it comes to new enrollments and terminations with different insurance policies.
  • The PEO service is top-notch for companies with employees in multiple states. It truly helps to keep things in order as far as state registrations, workers compensation, health benefits, etc., are concerned.
  • The employee is responsible for handling all on-boarding aspects of his/her new hire process which leaves staff with more time to focus on other aspects of service for clients.
  • The modules that TriNet offers are very easy to use and integrate well with the payroll.
  • TriNet is great with sending timely reminders regarding benefit enrollments, I-9 completion, etc., for new hires.
  • There is little to no room for customization. It takes a lot of time to add a new pay type as there is a laundry list from which to choose. Additionally, there are several options for one pay type which leaves confusion as to which is correct. There is no information regarding these pay types with regards to special taxation (e.g. supplemental rates for bonuses). Lastly, there is no way to override anything in the system which makes the payroll process long and arduous when there is a change.
  • The system can be glitchy at times where reports will not load, payroll previews will not complete processing, and expenses are doubled in the module and IT needs to be contacted for removal.
  • The deadlines do not allow much flexibility for errors or last-minute issues (such as cash requirements). If there is an issue, nothing can be placed on hold for longer than 24 hours (in my experience).
  • The fees are very high for payroll processing. I am not sure if these fees cover all of the PEO costs for the client, but TriNet fees are sometimes 5-10x higher than other platforms who offer a more lenient and user-friendly interface (albeit not being PEOs).
  • There is a lack of connection between service associates at times which leads to errors in payroll caused by TriNet. The communication with your dedicated service associate is almost always helpful, but when bigger issues arise the intra-organization communication is lacking.
  • The reports system is not easy to follow and tax filings cannot be accessed by the administrators or TriNet as a company.
  • TriNet tends to be a bit uncooperative when a company moves from their system to another payroll processing system and is hesitant to provide the company with details needed to maintain policies outside of the PEO.
  • Administrators do not have the same view as employees. When an employee calls requesting help, it's hard to guide them through the system as administrator options are much different than employee options when logging into HR Passport.
  • TriNet assists us as an organization to keep enrollments, registrations, and insurance policies as up-to-date as possible. It saves our HR and Legal departments and lot of time and leaves little to no room for error.
TriNet is great for clients who have employees in multiple state and need the entire PEO package to manage their HR and payroll needs.
TriNet is great for someone who needs (and is willing to pay for) an entire PEO package. Because TriNet manages the benefits, insurances, registrations, retirement plans, etc., it's great for someone who needs to manage multiple workers compensation and health benefit policies as well as registering in multiple states for both withholding and unemployment insurance.
