This appliance is well suited for organizations that have a need to monitor, moderate, or log social networking site use or the use of any website. It is a very solid tool for any information security department to have at their disposal.

Spredfast

Spreadfast is well suited for the following:
  1. An excellent publishing resource that mitigates risks by creating an alternate route to native platform access. Publishing approval workflows ensure due diligence, and the ability to pause all publishing is an efficient way to respond to world events where BAU publishing would not be appropriate.
  2. Providing reporting functionality that supports content audits/verifications as well as measurement of social care teams actions
  3. Customer Care - the social care inbox provides third party moderation teams the tools required to manage customer comments as well as triage and escalate to internal teams in a streamlined flow through defined automations and labeling
Spreadfast continues to evolve paid ad functionality but this is an area where we have not found a viable use case.

Pros

  • Filtering capabilities for both URL and Social Media were easy to implement and manage by the security team. These features allow you to grant or deny access to various user groups as needed all the way to an individual grant or deny. It offers a vary large robust list of configuration options.
  • If you have a need for storing and later discovering Instant Messaging conversations or even messaging in social media then this is the tool to deploy. At that time when we chose this product, none of the other products were capable of meeting the feature set that Actiance offered.
  • Ease of deployment. Its abilities for integration with LDAP and Active directory give a wide set of deployment options.

  • Support- They are always available for any questions or concerns you may have regarding data searches and specific areas to search and they always provide you with the most recent updates.
  • Approachable and Dependable On- Boarding Staff (sales)- Each member of the on boarding team for Spredfast shown genuine concern and enthusiasm to work with myself and my staff to ensure the Spredfast platform and team can and would function to it's highest capacity.
  • Training - The on-site training provided by Spredfast was seamless and direct. Each of my staff enjoyed knowing how to utilize the platform with a more efficient view of social sites in one location and the ability to triage and assist customer's from all 3 social sites in one space.

Its not often that you come across a platform that is as easy to deploy as this one was. Once deployed it is an easy configure and forget appliance, but then you wouldn't get to benefit from its many other available features.

• UI has improved quite a lot over time (we were a very early customer) and it is certainly a lot easier to use than it used to be.
• The analytics UI, in particular, is not great. It’s functional, but not easy to grab the right data and build a report within the product. We have to export data to something else to create visually attractive charts and graphs. The current output is not as eye catching as we’d like when presenting data to senior management. We would really prefer something more plug-and-play. (They have hired an analytics PM to focus on this problem, so we are confident that it will get better).
• The UIs for Publishing and Monitoring have been completely re-designed and are much better now

• We do not have any kind of premium support. However, the support team is very responsive. They always follow up quickly when we submit a ticket and they do a good job with getting bugs fixed. The bigger roadmap items / feature requests are a bit more problematic, but these are product management rather than support issues.
• There is an excellent support community

Alternatives Considered

This was the only appliance of its kind that I have used. Other devices have different capabilities for web filtering such as the checkpoint firewalls, but none of them offered the overall solution that was deployed with this product at that time.

Spredfast was more valuable to the company than Sprout Social because it works large scale much better and the organization is superb.
