Scenarios where ActiveCollab works well1) ActiveCollab works well for small teams specifically T&M teams. Its invoicing feature is unique & can make your life easy.2) It is very easy to use & posses good range of filters like on the task list, we can drag/drop tasks, Filter by assignee's,
tasks lists, due dates, or completed tasks. 3) It has some simple but awesome features like when you're in
the middle of writing something i.e a comment on story and get interrupted,
it retains what you wrote.4) It allows you to tag team members in threads of comments to grab their attention, its really needed when teams are distributed. Thus helping team members to collaborate easily & stay on same page.5) It integrates pretty well with other web apps like quickbooks , Slack, Trello, HubSpot, Zapier etcScenarios where ActiveCollab did not work well1) Tasks can not have multiple assignee's here so if two members are working on same task it did not allow you to reflect that.2) Sorting capability is not their under invoicing3) It did not work well for larger teams4) Search option is not very detailed & you may end up wasting lot of time searching one particular bug or issue.

Teamwork

Teamwork Projects is a perfect tool, especially for small businesses, because it will help you manage and understand the basics of the marketing field. This highly successful tool provides a project format for the distribution of activities among workgroups. Excellent management system and user-friendly, I recommend it.

Pros

ActiveCollab

  • Great for project and task assignments, project workflow and communications.
  • Solid web-based platform that doesn't require software downloads, also includes great mobile platform.
  • Great reporting tools for managing billing, estimating, project workflow and other essential project details.
  • Allows for both the agency and its clients to interact on a single platform using role-specific permissions.

Teamwork

  • I love the time management tool that Teamwork offers me. This feature is amazing, I can know what type each of my colleagues has invested in the progress of the project, so I can know exactly what type of work they have applied in the project. Teamwork Projects is also capable of monitoring the remote work our employees do on projects. During this COVID-19 pandemic, this time management function has been very useful, to know what type each employee has invested in the project remotely.
  • I love the Gantt chart. With the charts in Gantt mode in Teamwork I can know exactly what trend my project is having, in addition, I can learn more about the progress it has had in a given time, to inspect the growth or decline that the project has had in the last weeks or months.
  • I love that with Teamwork Projects, we can manage multiple projects simultaneously. Previously, we could only manage 2 projects simultaneously, but with Teamwork everything changed in a positive way, now Teamwork is being used in several sectors of our company and each sector develops a different project without any type of restriction.

Cons

ActiveCollab

  • Individual comments cannot be linked to. This makes it more difficult to reference a comment or question.
  • Unnecessary features cannot be turned off. Since we use it primarily for communication, it would be ideal to turn off tasks etc. that are not needed or be able to move discussions as the first screen.
  • There isn't an easy way to set up different projects under the same client.

Teamwork

  • Visualization needs to be improved, charts graphs are limited
  • Value stream mapping should be available to determine and prioritize the work.
  • Documentation should be available stepwise with export and printable facility.
  • It should be configurable like ERP with cross functionalities of different users, where users login, assign and approve the work, job or project details, where it should be collectively effected on a project.
  • Add many examples, little more AI, Machine learning required for suggestion and recommendation. It would be a plus point

We are already at an annual contract, and have been for the past 5 years; so far the system has delivered, and our personal is already trained in it. A major overhaul of our entire infrastructure (as in moving everything to a single, unified platform) might change the current continuity of Teamwork Projects on our organization, but that's not feasible in the near future.

I give it a 9 out of 10, because there is a bit of a learning curve when you first start using Teamwork Projects because there is a lot to learn & recognize where to find it. They do offer a good range of tools that can be applied to every project - So say you're working on an internal project and don't need Milestones or Billing, you can shut those modules off. This can help simplify the interface for beginners.Once you've had a few days in Teamwork Projects, I think it's a 10/10 usability. It's very easy to accomplish your tasks and keep track of what you're managing.

The support team is responsive to requests and their annual support fees are reasonable. Honestly, we don't have to contact them much. Updates happen automatically and the platform is very solid and does not require a lot of support. Documentation is good and the platform is easy to learn.

We've been able to meet with the customer success team on multiple occasions to discuss the roadmap and learn about the company culture. Being based in Ireland, we occasionally have to wait until they wake up to get support requests handled in the states and larger conversations about big enhancement requests were politely collected but not followed up on

Alternatives Considered

ActiveCollab

I have used multiple project management platforms such as ActiveCollab, JIRA, Trello, etc. Trello has great visualization with their (Kanban Board) board system and support drag and drop functionality for managing tasks. ActiveCollab, however, does not have the fancy visualization, but is very powerful when it comes to ticketing, task management, task delegation, time tracking, etc.

Teamwork

I spoke about this quite a bit before, but as far as usability goes, Microsoft Projects is totally useless for me, so I avoid it at all costs. Basecamp was just a task management app and had very small feature set beyond that. We had to rig it to do other things for us, but it failed at that. Asana was a very nice app to trial, but it lacked many of the features that we were looking for.

Return on Investment

ActiveCollab

  • It has saved us a TON of money (literally thousands) in project management software.
  • It has helped us gain clients because we can show them the template of what they will see and give them access to it. When others don't have software that does this.
  • Positive impact on ROI based on the time it's saving compared to our previous PM software.

Teamwork

  • Teamwork was a great starter into project management software. We were WAY more organized and efficient than we ever were with Trello boards and the PM software included with our accounting system.
  • Clients were mostly pleased with interacting with Teamwork, and appreciated the ability to track their comments and requests in one place.
  • Ultimately, we stopped using Teamwork after about 6 months because we need something more focused on web development projects specifically
