Adobe Connect

If communicating with 30-90 agents in the virtual world, Adobe Connect definitely allows for the communication in a simplified environment. For example, f you have 30 agents taking calls, this program offers a way for agents to communicate. If questions are needed answered, the hosts have the ability to pose those questions and get answers from the group. In a smaller group, this may be a bit of overkill and may not be needed. Large groups of 75-100 would create and environment that is less appropriate as there are to many people asking questions and not receiving answers. This amount of people in one room may get lost in the confusion.

Slack

Slack is great for use on teams, where quick and casual communication is appropriate. It's easy and enjoyable to communicate with this venue. I could see it working amazingly for startups and smaller teams throughout all levels of the organization but I think for larger organizations with a more formal hierarchy, this tool might not get used across levels as much.

Pros

  • Immediate communication within a secure environment between the host, or hosts, and attendees is a major benefit of Adobe Connect.
  • The ability to screen share is second to none and can be done immediately in the current session, or if the host pulls an attendee, or attendees, to a Break Out.
  • File sharing when those important files come through that require notification to a group as a whole is also something Adobe Connect does well.
  • Finally, the ability to post polls, create a white board for interaction with employees, and other items are just some of the benefits of Adobe Connect

  • Slack enables us to use fun functions such as "/giphy" to make our communications more fun and casual. GIF wars end up bringing our department closer and injecting team spirit and humor into what could normally be stressful days.
  • Slack is also great for creating quick, temporary groups. It's nice to be able to get a group message going and then have the option to just stop using it or to convert it to a private channel later.
  • One of the best things is how Slack saves message history. You can close any DM, including group DMs and then pull it back up later. This enables you to save the information and history without having a cluttered list of interactions.

Cons

  • The one major issue I have experienced with Adobe Connect is the lag or "boot" when there are too many people present. When attendees reached the maximum amount, I see a huge lag when moving to a Break Out, an unresponsive or frozen room, or one may get what we term "booted". This is very frustrating for employees when time is of the essence.Opening up the parameters a bit on attendees to prevent these issues would be greatly appreciated.
  • Color. Color. Color. Although you are in a working environment, color is appreciate, but limited when creating pods to discuss or post items. The background is very drab and has no "pop" to it. Employees may see items differently if the pods background was something other than gray.
  • Videos. Videos tend to have a lag as well when doing real-time face to face discussion. There seems to be a pixelation issue that has been occurring for years now when viewing videos.

  • It's a minor point and one that's likely outside of Slack's core competencies, but if you're looking for a communication tool that also includes voice chat, this isn't it.

We loved the product so much, we have purchased several licenses of our own to host on our own. This offered up the ability to let OUR clients enjoy the benefits of this platform and to continue to offer this service to them. The technology is easy to set up and I wouldn't go any other way.

Prices do not seem to vary much among resellers of the Adobe Connect hosted license; the only price variation you're likely to find are among the audio providers. When implementing, you may also wish to look into expanding the amount of storage you are allowed on the server to avoid any problems later on as your library of files starts to build up

Alternatives Considered

RVIBE is platform agnostic so we know and use any and all virtual platforms depending on our clients requirements. Platforms like WebEx, GoToMeeting, Zoom, Blue Jeans, On24, Skype, Google Hangouts, Lync, Wiggio, ect all have similar options and their own niches in the virtual platform space but if you are serious about Virtual Instructor Led Training or highly engaging webinars Adobe Connect is RVIBE's choice.

Overall I think it has the best collection of features in an easy to use interface that feels familiar to most people. I believe it is the only one that allows you to be a part of multiple teams and toggle between that with a simple click, which is great for our organization.

Return on Investment

  • Flexibility - Every client's needs are different. When you are faced with a meeting that is as simple as slide sharing with audio, or as complex as a major general session with breakout rooms and the ability to view and interact on a wide range of devices, Connect has you covered.
  • Ease-Of-Use - With a simple interface that is easy to learn as well as easy to teach, it offers anyone with a wide variety of technological experience the ability to hold a meeting any time or anywhere.
  • Bottom Line - The gear required to actually host Adobe Connect can be as simple as a laptop or an iPad. You most likely already have everything you need to host a meeting at your home with very little setup required.
Michael Smith profile photo
  • Positive - The rate of communication increases. You can tell if someone is available or not. This can be the difference between fielding a call to get a customer's invoice paid right then and there, or having to waiting another day or two and speak to them about invoice questions.
