Fantastic for social media management and customer care. Less appropriate for areas where social media, content creation, analytic tracking or customer care is less of a concern. However these days the majority of companies will probably have a social media team, so it is more of a necessity these days really

I definitely would not recommend paying for Pro until you've test driven Standard's features for a few weeks and ensured it will both fit your needs, and perform reliably enough for your business. If you are a moderately sized business whose social media presence is a key component of your success, the net time and energy you save by using Hootsuite Pro may make it a worthwhile investment, even given its unreliability. I'm not entirely clear on all the variables at play when Hootsuite breaks, so it may be that your particular configuration is less troublesome than ours. Testing in Standard mode for a while is a great way to ascertain this yourself without incurring any expense.

  • Inability to tag companies or people on LinkedIn is a huge annoyance. Due to time constraints, we've had to eliminate the use of tags for LinkedIn since HootSuite can't do it, and we don't have time to go into the platform, tag, and post at the exact right time.
  • Random errors and temporary ceasing of posting/scheduling function happens at least once a week.
  • Slow to incorporate newer features, such as the lag between Twitter increasing the character limit and Hootsuite recognizing that fact in its post creation.

Its UI is very busy, the result of many years of adding features as the number of social media platforms exploded underneath them, and the lack of platform-specific features (whether for streams, posting, reporting, anything) reflects it. Nonetheless, for free management & quasi-updated stream viewing, it still remains the original and classic. The UI's lackings aren't in its 1990 borders-and-table-bezel glory but rather its not supporting platform specific features (such as image sizing, see my earlier points) which can be so critical. Too many fly-in's and fly-outs as well as the very different designs resulting from left-menu selections for mode really make it an anxious UI to use.

Gliches have made it a bit of a bind, particularly when you just want to 'click and send' a web article after you have read it - and then you have to deal with support (a great team but not always able to solve the problems with the gliches). Gliches with it loading properly, gliches with 'double ups in FB on the posts (the personal page and the business page if both clicked will lead to 2 lots of postings to each page!)

Hootsuite makes passing on articles from the web very easy- when it works! I have had a number of gliches with Chrome where it does not open properly and the solution (after some toing and froing with support) was to uninstall and reinstall. The support staff are always very helpful (which is great!) but the gliches..... well, they suck when you are already busy!

I tried a few similar tools before I discovered AgoraPulse. Buffer and Post Planner are both good at what they do but ultimately fall short for managing multiple clients. Granted, they're also more affordable - great if you need something simple and you only have a few personal profiles to manage. I also tried Hootsuite, but it's just not for me. I'm sure it's a great tool for many, but I find it needlessly complex with a clunky interface. It's not nearly as intuitive as AgoraPulse, and quite frankly it's just not a good value for small and medium-sized agencies.

Hootsuite offers more social profiles and many more integration that both Buffer and Sprout Social. At the end of the day, it's the convenience of the extensive integration capabilities of well known services that make Hootsuite Pro an integral piece of our Marketing Technology stack. Hootsuite Pro knows how to play well with others. Further, we use Tailwind with Hootsuite as it integrates well with the Pro package to include Pinterest in our social dashboard
