Likelihood to Recommend

AirWatch

AirWatch is a great tool for large organizations that need to manage more than 100 devices. The product is capable of handling multiple platforms and is scalable to any size company.I would not recommend AirWatch to small companies, companies with minimal MDM needs or companies on a tight budget. It's the Rolls Royce of MDMs, it has all the bells and whistles and it's not inexpensive.

It's definitely a decent app to access emails and calendars on the go except for the fact that you have to log in again five minutes after your last login. It somehow doesn't store your password. Good keeps all your company data separate and completely encrypted from your personal data. Your IT department in a flash can zap everything inside Good. IT has the ability, by design, to remove all of the company's data from your device. This is vital in a world where devices are lost and stolen all the time. With the 'bring your own device' concept gaining momentum in a lot of organizations, Good provides an alternative to organizations without having to worrying about data security and theft.

Pros

  • Enterprise application management - basically we can deploy the application under app catalog and end users can access these applications through their mobile devices after enrollment.
  • Content locker feature is one of the best features which I came across and it is widely used by any organization in order to manage all organization level content in it. It has many more features which we can explore and manage policies accordingly.
  • Admin Console, reporting services, accessing the public app through enterprise store, compliance policies, remote device wipe, passcode management these are major features which we can focus on and explore accordingly
  • Separate Inbox, contacts and calendar application for different OS. Boxer is their new application launch for emails on the device.

  • It allows fast access to sensitive and classified business info without worrying about the confidentiality theft.
  • Further, I don't need to carry a separate office mobile to be in sync with business emails and syncing with calendars.
  • Good acts as a security layer between my personal data and business data. Also, the feature to provide offline notifications for upcoming or any missed meetings/appointments is very useful.

Cons

  • The MDM space is moving fast and growth is challenging for growing technology companies. Airwatch is no different in some of their support challenges. However investing in a TAM has proven to be well worth the investment. Having a point person to facilitate through support has been critical to our successful implementation of Airwatch in our environment.

  • One thing which is annoying to me is that after every 5-10 minutes, I need to log in again with my credentials to access emails. It could be from a security perspective but in that case the auto log out time should be user configurable.
  • It's not possible to save or forward attachments from my inbox on my device
  • Good does allow for synchronizing of contacts in your personal corporate email address book to your personal device address book.

Likelihood to Renew

AirWatch7.0

We've used it for 3 years and our contract is up later this year. We own the licenses, but we would have to either renew cloud services or bring the services in-house and install on servers here. We may want to see what's new in the marketplace that could be just as useful and cost effective.

If given a choice, I would like to access office emails directly using Microsoft Exchange. Entering login passwords every five minutes seems painful and syncing of emails is not done in real time.

Usability

It works well for our environment and what we're using it for. It actually does more than we're currently utilizing, but I believe our needs will change in the near future and we could utilize more features.

Reliability and Availability

AirWatch5.0

Just in the past few weeks our staff has had several issues with the website. It is either taking a long time to load anything or we are not able to get in at all. This is very frustrating when you are trying to manage and enroll users. It was down 2 days in a row just this past week. Not good!

Went over the availability just a minute ago on the last rating. Don't use the reporting too much but will likely begin that soon. Integration with Active Directory doesn't seem to bog either system down.

They're usually very good. I've talked to any number of techs from level one to level 3. They all seem pretty knowledgeable about the product and how to support it.

Have your organizational structure and heirarchy outlined. This helps when you are ready to create OU's and subs in AirWatch.

Alternatives Considered

Airwatch remains a leader in Gartner's Magic Quadrant and meets the data mobility needs of our organization. We are looking at moving to the cloud with Office365 and are evaluating the Intune/EMS/MAM/Rights Management suite. We have set up both Airwatch and Intune/EMS/MAM/Rights Management in a lab environment and have compiled some good comparison data and are looking to further evaluate these products. From our testing Airwatch has good integration with Office365 and is more feature rich and has more robust controls in both the MDM and Data Management/Security space. If someone is looking for a more simple solution without MDM and they are considering providing email and calendar access only Intune/MAM may be the way to go.

Well, selecting Good was an organization level decision and not my personal one. I like Good from the security perspective and that it helps our IT department avoid worrying about data theft. Otherwise, from the perspective of user convenience, Outlook scores way over Good with it's real time delivery of email, real time syncing and a host of other features

It is really scalable. They love to have more users as you pay by the license. They are great in this regard.

Return on Investment

  • When there is an APNS issue the time to resolve has an average of 2 to 3 weeks. During this time we are dead in the water.

  • My Organization is able to provide employees with access to emails , contacts and calendars without worrying about the encryption and security of sensitive data. Also, as it can be configured over almost every smartphone, my organization is saving money by not having to provide dedicated devices to employees.
  • The IT department has the ability, by design, to remove all of the company's data from your device. This is vital in a world where devices are lost and stolen all the time.
  • Initially only top management people could access emails on the go on the devices provided and configured by the organization. Now, anyone has the convenience of accessing emails on the go.
