Product Details

What is Xero?

Xero is an online accounting software platform for small businesses and their advisors, as well as for personal finance. Xero competes most often with QuickBooks Online. Its features, beyond the ubiquitous general ledger and double-entry bookkeeping support, include invoicing with quotes, bank reconciliation, purchase order and expense management, tax management, and it is mobile-accessible. Xero integrates with over 800 third-party applications, covering everything from inventory and logistics to cash flow, project management, customer relationship management, and e-commerce.

The product is sold by subscription (a distribution model commonly known as software as a service or SaaS) requiring the payment of a monthly fee. This charge is proportionate to the number (and type) of company entities managed by the subscriber. The lowest tiered pricing option is the $9 per month Starter pack, which supports unlimited users but a limited number of transactions. The $30 Standard pack breaks open usage limits and adds e-filing and payroll options. The $70 Premium package doubles the number of supported employees on payroll from 5 to 10, and supports multiple currencies.

Xero is really basic and our team can easily adapt with it rather than using other some other non-user friendly apps. We could focus on the work itself rather than having problems with learning its complexity. Xero is very user-friendly and also gives tutorial which is great! Also, they provide certification so you could learn from it!

I've used a lot of different accounting systems. Many of them so big and powerful, but a hassle to get set up. Xero is light, inexpensive, and easy to use. When I originally selected them they seemed like they were developing new features at a quick rate as well. I was invited to be part of focus sessions to make the product better. That part has slowed down significantly though.

Xero stands out as the industry leader in terms of ease of use, functionality, integration possibilities, usability, and reporting functionality. Having extensive experience with various accounting software as a business owner and mentor, Xero consistently proves to be my top choice. Whether you're an accountant, bookkeeper, or a first-time small business owner, Xero's user-friendly interface and robust features positively impact business growth. It's a no-brainer for me – Xero is the go-to solution.

I've previously used MYOB and think it's reasonable to say that MYOB has functional advantages and more power compared to Xero but prefer to use Xero based on the simplicity of use and how the user interface is a bit more user friendly. In a small business with lower accounting needs I find it to be a more successful option.

Xero has a more modern user interface, better bank account synchronization, better automations, and an overall more pleasurable user experience. The setup is more simple.

Quickbooks Desktop has easier to use and more robust reporting; however, for my needs that is overkill. What Xero does have is thorough enough for any accounting and decisions I need to make.

Just simpler and has a cleaner interface. I would say that quickbooks is designed for less savvy business owners, but that makes it slower to use than Xero. I'm not suggesting that Xero is hard to use, it's really simple, but it does assume you have a level of financial competency which makes it quicker to use.

Sage at the time we moved to Xero did not really have a suitable Cloud offering and the full SaaS solution it did have was only applicable to very small businesses. Quickbooks was very similar to Xero but during testing, most users preferred Xero for various reasons. Xero's UI was slightly more user friendly.

Xero ranks highly among the competitors, however multi-level reporting is better done in QuickBooks. More price sensitive, micro-businesses can find decent cheaper or free alternatives. Those wanting integration with other apps like cashflow management, inventory, reporting will find that Xero has got the most apps available, along with QuickBooks. The free software solutions are lagging behind in this sense.

Sage is much more difficult to use and far less enjoyable to work with than Xero. Sage just feels 'old fashioned' and cumbersome compared to the streamlined Xero system. We have no regrets in adopting Xero over Sage. Furthermore, Xero is less expensive than Sage. Better system and cheaper! What's not to like?

Netsuite is very heavy, whilst Xero seems lighter in comparison, it's able to do a lot of what Netsuite can, provided you have the right external software to plug into it for the missing functionality. The biggest reason we moved from Netsuite, was cost. Xero is almost for free compared to Netsuite! Having said that, you would need to pick the right partners to plug in and their pricing might not be as favrouable as Xero. Be sure to try them all though. Some of the less expensive ones are surprisingly good!

I have been with Sage Partner for the past ten years. I can now replace it with Xero. I considered Sage Cloud and Quickbooks but did not go deep into them, maybe it is becuase Xero marketers are great.
