Overall Satisfaction with Cloudflare

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use cloudflare to manage our websites and our client's sites DNS, DNS caching and firewall. It has helped us not only to centralize the DNS management but also to reduce unexpected visitors and DDoS attacks attempts thanks to CloudFlare security features.

For some cases where we need a lot of traffic management, we have used their load balancer without having to migrate our DNS to a different system

Pros and Cons

Pros

DNS is easily managed, the UI is easy to use and learn
the firewall rules are easy to test and configure and are quick and effective
The "we are under attack" feature has saved our sites from DDoS attempts with only one click
Their Cache is easy to set and use and integrates easily with other systems

Cons

their analytics could hold more data
some DNS may be misconfigured but they do not show information about it
The documentation may be tricky to use; it is usually easier to try directly in the UI instead of searching through the documentation

Return on Investment

It has allow us to use the free plan in several small sites
For medium/big sizes, the plans they offer adjust properly to the needs we require; saving money and making the most of the spent one
Considering we manage several clients; we were able to centralize all of our client's accounts in our own; allowing us to save time in their management and giving them the security that we will only access the parts they require us to access

Onboarding

We have used Cloudflare from over 7 years now; it works fine, it works quickly and most of all it is reliable. Everytime we add a new domain and configure a new site, we know it will not take long to start working as we expect. As well, the few times we have required their support, they answer quickly and effectively.

Support Rating

During our time working with cloudflare, there are few times we have required to contact their support. The UI is clear, the system works fine and smooth so it is rare the occasion where we need to contact them. The few times we have done it, They answered quickly and helped us with our issues

Likelihood to Recommend

Cloudflare works great for any DNS you need to manage and whose website and hosting is managed by you directly; specially if you need to show static data, public information and you are waiting for a lot of traffic.

If your site is hosted in a service such as Cpanel, it is better to check if the provider allows to connect with Cloudflare. Else, it may be tricky to make them work and you may lose some features when removing the DNS from Cpanel service.
