Overall Satisfaction with Miro

Since COVID, there has been a feeling of disconnect between staff members within our residence life department. I found Miro when considering whiteboard applications and had such success at a former university that I brought it here. With around 100 staff needing to engage within our meetings and training sessions, we needed a platform that would be easy to learn, simple to use, and beyond simple for department heads to understand and set up. Miro not only functioned as a digital whiteboard space to demonstrate a shared group thought process, but the ability to see others' cursors really separated it from the competition. This factor alone caused the significant feedback to be that people felt better connected and that the software was just outstanding. It led to countless spinoff uses from group collaboration to residential student engagement. Most enjoyable was our use of "org chart guess who" in which detail was read about leadership members in the division and then participants would move their cursor to whom they thought the detail applied. This was incredibly well-received, helped with the understanding of the org chart, and got quite a few laughs along the way.
  • Digital whiteboard collaboration.
  • Group voting on created/posted concepts.
  • Visualization of other participant cursors/focus.
  • Shared video and webcams.
  • Showing cursor locations without giving editing capabilities.
  • Providing naming of guests without requiring account creation.
  • Improved staff engagement.
  • Improved collaboration.
  • Faster uptake of information and concepts.
  • Far more effective communication within large groups.
The best part of the implementation was the integration it had with Office 365 and its care and appreciation for those in the education field. A free account for educators really made the use of Miro an easy sell and I can confidently say that most of our staff only recommend Miro for a digital whiteboard platform.
We really didn't have to do anything for integration. Everyone just signed up and it was able to be used.
As mentioned, Miro was the key to group engagement on a massive level. We honestly struggled with Zoom fatigue and digital meeting burnout before Miro. I won't say that Miro made people eager to still meet digitally, but it definitely made the meetings easier to sit through as people felt closer and more in touch with one another.

Miro's key factor was it's ability to see one another's cursors when collaborating and engaging. From working with Google and Microsoft's software as well as random other independent software that wasn't able to be selected from the list above, Miro was the only one that did that. It really set it apart and kept it in a league of it's own.
Classroom participation and engagement, group collaboration, group brainstorming, shared board game creation, project development, residence hall programming, unconference planning, breaking down ideas into various concepts, and understanding of individual focuses when participating in a group digital activity are all outstanding uses for Miro. It really is as close to a digital whiteboard as you can get while remaining fully on the computer. We've even started using it as supplemental to in-person meetings just to maintain the group ideas and discussion points since so many can contribute together.
