If you can afford it I think Zoom Meeting is betterBlackboard Collaborate is headed in the right direction but they're not there yet.

RingCentral

RingCentral is great for one overarching communication platform. If your business requires text, phone calls, video, whatever—RingCentral can help you. That said, being that accessible can feel invasive at times. If you're looking for a communication tool that is less expansive, or don't need all of its features, I'd go with a simpler platform.

Pros

  • Polling
  • Lots of 3rd party add ons available
  • desktop sharing
Mark Nowowiejski profile photo
  • Simple user and group management. Setting up users, call queues, phone menus, etc., is so easy and simple. I have done in seconds on one menu what used to take 30+ minutes in my old Cisco system.
  • Users can be reached anywhere using one number. We have a lot of remote users and you don't realize that they're not in the office because the mobile app that they can use outside the office provides a seamless experience.
  • Faxing is a breeze! Unfortunately, we deal with a lot of entities who still use fax to transmit documents. Having each user's phone number being able to send and receive faxes has improved their efficiency and saved us money. We no longer have to pay for a third party fax service and the user interface is so intuitive, even our most technologically illiterate users are excelling at it!

Cons

  • User Interface is dated
  • Setting up meeting is cumbersome, many of our instructors get confused by it
  • Being able to download recording to local computer is way over due
Mark Nowowiejski profile photo
  • Technical support can be difficult to deal with as they seem to want to get you out of their hair ASAP. Regular user support seems fine.
  • Soft phone and mobile app are easy to update, but have caused various issues with phone registration and they can force you to update due to discontinuing versions.
  • Some functions from the soft phone and mobile app are not as easy to use as the physical handset due to lack of function keys, like paging for example.

Likelihood to Renew

Adobe Connect10.0

While we are always open to an alternative that meets our needs, we plan to stick with Adobe Connect for the foreseeable future. The product continues to evolve as Adobe rolls out new versions and updates on a fairly frequent basis, and as a hosted customer we receive those updates automatically

We switched to RingCentral for ease of administration, flexibility of integration (fax, web meetings, chat client, mobile app) and competitive price. Although the system has had a few quirks as it's been relying on our network much more heavily and integrating with our next-gen firewall, I can't speak highly enough of what RingCentral has done for our business. I love it and can't wait to renew for a longer period of time at an even more competitive rate.

The ability to have most of the functionality of a full LMS at a fraction of the cost is huge. I can create manage and deploy both synchronous and asynchronous training based on the situation and all of my training is tracked through a series of easily created reports

Implementation

Adobe Connect7.9
Based on 4 answers
Prices do not seem to vary much among resellers of the Adobe Connect hosted license; the only price variation you're likely to find are among the audio providers. When implementing, you may also wish to look into expanding the amount of storage you are allowed on the server to avoid any problems later on as your library of files starts to build up

Alternatives Considered

We found that WebEx was 'flat' when it came to training for extended periods of time. Deeper interactions created by AC with the course content, the instructors and, ultimately, with the students creates a successful class. A successful class means students that have been exposed to (in our case) intensely complex & technical content that wasn't hampered by stupid technical failures & lack of features. For example: in WebEx, when the Host dropped off, the classroom would get torn-down with it. It was a mad-scramble to get the classroom back up, and somehow notify the attendees that they can 'dial back in', etc. Additionally, the WebEx 'cloud' for course content storage & subsequent access wasn't as rich, or as flexible as AC's, and we found that our CDT release management team couldn't integrate their processes easily with WebEx, and therefore we regularly ran into inconsistencies in versions delivered.

RingCentral was the most feature rich and fully realized option that we evaluated. It required the least amount of special setup to our network, as well as had the easiest to use softphone and mobile app. It was not the cheapest, but was in line with ShoreTel's cost. The biggest difference was the evaluation that RingCentral actually gave us phones to plug and play in our own environment and allowed us to have them for a full month at least.

Return on Investment

  • Flexibility - Every client's needs are different. When you are faced with a meeting that is as simple as slide sharing with audio, or as complex as a major general session with breakout rooms and the ability to view and interact on a wide range of devices, Connect has you covered.
  • Ease-Of-Use - With a simple interface that is easy to learn as well as easy to teach, it offers anyone with a wide variety of technological experience the ability to hold a meeting any time or anywhere.
  • Bottom Line - The gear required to actually host Adobe Connect can be as simple as a laptop or an iPad. You most likely already have everything you need to host a meeting at your home with very little setup required.

  • Avoid hiring support for our phone system saving us money- since it's VOIP we haven't had to rewire new offices or remote sites- we are a smaller company so these expenses can add up.
  • Call quality can suffer sometimes, but it's not been a major issue yet.
