Ceridian Dayforce HCM

Dayforce is great if you have a varied workforce that requires complicated configuration, like multi-state jurisdictions with different labor laws applicable to each location. Just be prepared to designate an individual at your company to become a configuration expert in case anything needs updating. Dayforce is less great if you use only one aspect of the program. As a whole, when you buy the whole enchilada and do all your HCM through Dayforce, the integration makes the minor annoyances worth it. If you are only looking to replace HR data, only time tracking, or only payroll processing, this is probably not the system for you. I'd go all or nothing.

  • I liked the notification features of the payroll module, which helped ensure, that payroll was processed in a timely manner without missing any deadlines.
  • The features in the payroll module seem effective to ensure that no accidental erroneous data entry can take place by a payroll administrator.
  • The CRS system allowed us to generate consolidated payroll summaries for all of our foreign sales office which were very beneficial and useful for our Finance Department

  • Single platform for HR and Payroll. When one thing changes, it cascades through the whole system, keeping us on track and reducing the likelihood of data entry errors.
  • Time Calculation flexibility. If there is something that can't be configured within the pay configuration, I've yet to discover it. Need your employees to get OT for hours after a certain time? Done. Need shift rates applied? Done. Need meal penalties assessed for shifts above a certain length (for you CA employers)? Done. I could go on and on- but the point is that the system can work for you, no matter your needs.
  • Real-time payroll calculations. Need to check if a garnishment is going to be correctly applied to an employee's pay? Need to see what impact a commission payment will have on employee taxes? Need to check to see what your to-date payroll liability for the pay period is? Any of these and many more are at your fingertips in just a few minutes with the ability to recalculate the pay file at any time during the pay cycle. You no longer have to wonder what your payroll will look like when processing day comes along- you can see it all along.

Cons

ADP Streamline Payroll

  • ADP Streamline billing is slow to react to company changes. Hence incorrect invoices from ADP Streamline were issued and it took a very long time to get their billing department to correct these and issue credit notes.
  • In the payroll system I missed not being able to obtain a per country headcount and payroll numbers. Once payroll is processed it goes directly into an archive and is not easily viewable. It would be nice to have more visibility of personnel and payroll data.

  • Training and sales seem to be out of sync with the actual system. Sales promises our leaders things that in real life are not possible, or require additional fees/services to implement. Training has featured things that are no longer available live in the system. Support sometimes is out of sync with updates as well.
  • Support is overwhelmed the entire year. This means slow response times, unless you mark everything as urgent. If a ticket is marked as high priority, unless it is escalated we may not get a response beyond "your ticket has been received" for two weeks or more. Ceridian needs to hire more support people.
  • Communication on changes that will be made by hot fixes is often done after the fact.

Nothing is perfect - including Ceridian Dayforce HCM. However, I can say that of all the payroll providers I have been associated with, Ceridian Dayforce offers the most comprehensive all-in-one platform currently available. It is not the simplest to start using right 'out of the box', but it is definitely the most powerful not to mention the most configurable.

We have never experienced a total/unplanned outages that effected our ability to process payroll. However, there are times when the application's speed is significantly effected - and processing a payroll may take up to twice as long as normal.

Keeping all data on one platform makes it so that it all flows between the different features and functionalities. This and other aspects of the cross function integration (as alluded to in previous answers) saves time and is more intuitive in making all these different HR phenomena function and confluence alongside and into one another.

Overall, we are extremely happy with the Dayforce WFM module. Our biggest pain point is concerning the twice annual software upgrades - which is the only reason I haven't rated them as a '10'. Because every customer is configured differently, the upgrades can sometimes have adverse effects on our current configured policies/rules. And although they roll-out the upgraded version in a test environment several weeks before go-live, not all testing is accurate in that environment. Some issues do not present themselves until you are working with live punches.

  • ADP Streamline was just a function to us so I can't really say it had a positive or negative effect on our business objectives. We went with Streamline because we already were with ADP. We didn't really shop.
  • Because of the great rep we had we were able to get a more positive response from our German staff to their pay. Before I came on board there were a lot of payroll errors which had an effect on staff morale. With help from the rep we were able to improve our accuracy and pay people correctly.

  • When our managers are willing to look for and use them, the reporting tools available to them are very useful. Unfortunately, the reporting still will not include a manager's indirect reports unless they are granted access to the entire location. This has been a huge bone of contention for our managers.
  • The ability to create our own topics and reports has saved us some money over our two years. Other times it has highlighted the limits imposed on us. We had more control/access from ADP with the ability to use alias in custom joins. We have struggled with these limits, and are eagerly awaiting the improvements that will give us that access back. We have had to pay for billable projects as a result of these limits, however, when we could have done the same report ourselves out of our old system. We had to pay $2500 plus for a SOX required salary rate change report we could have built ourselves in our old system, for example.
