We use Blackbaud eTapestry as our fundraising and volunteer database / CRM. It is integrated with our website and GoCardless so supporters can sign up to events, make donations and set up direct debits. We also use it to send regular email newsletters to our supporters.
  • Reporting
  • Integration with GoCardless
  • DIY forms
  • Initial set up was a slow process / could have been more personalised to us
  • Limits to DIY forms and emails can be restrictive
We are a small fundraising team and started with a small number of supporters. Blackbaud eTapestry suited us as the price was acceptable (although not cheap). It does everything we need it do for a small, growing charity.

We use it for partnership management and also utilize it as a student database platform. I love the partnership management capabilities, running queries, and setting up UDFs. The issue that I come across is the ancient look and feel of the DIY forms. Also, when embedding these DIY forms to a website, you can only choose one merchant processor. There are options for multiple funds. However, only one merchant processor can be linked. Overall I love E-tapestry and would recommend it.
  • Queries
  • Database of donors/students.
  • UDF ( User Defined Fields), I can add as many as I want.
  • DIY forms (very outdated).
  • Reports ( hard to change/edit in comparison to query reports).
  • DIY form embedding to website (only allows 1 merchant processor).
Very easy to use.

We use Blackbaud eTapestry as a CRM, fundraising mechanism, and reporting system. It helps us communicate with donors, run a variety of reports (one-off and/or regularly scheduled), and keep track of donations for various projects (we have about 45 on the go at the moment). It also allows for many customizations in fields and letter templates.
  • Report Scheduling is great. Reports can be scheduled daily (even on specific days of the week), weekly, or monthly) and auto-emailed.
  • Reports can be displayed on the screen, downloaded, or emailed in CSV, excel, or pdf and can have columns pre-sorted in your preferred order.
  • Online donations are automatically added to the donor's account and automatically create an account for a new donor.
  • Having to set up queries and then set up reports can be cumbersome. There are a lot of settings to consider before you can get the details you're looking for.
  • There's no option to create copies of Standard Reports in order to customize them. Sometimes those Standard Reports have almost everything we need. It would be helpful to be able to add an extra column or two of data instead of having to start queries and reports from scratch.
  • For DIY Forms, there's currently no way to change the order that projects (known in eTap as Funds) display online, except to remove Funds one by one until you reach the spot in the list where you want them. We have about 45 Funds, and in order to add a new Fund closer to the top of the drop-down list, we have to remove most of them one by one, then add in the new Fund, then add the rest of the Funds back in one by one. Having a drag-and-drop option would be very helpful.
When we want to send a mass email to our donors and/or other contacts, Blackbaud eTapestry provides the tools to make it happen. That being said, when someone wants to unsubscribe from one of our email lists, but not all of them, eTapestry does not have a way to do that. If someone hits the Unsubscribe button, it unsubscribes them from everything. So it depends on what your needs are regarding that setting. The DIY Form settings were recently upgraded to allow us to send a different confirmation email based on whether a donor gave a one-time donation or a recurring donation. This is such a valuable option, as we previously had donors contact us to double-check that they had set up a monthly donation online, as the previous confirmation email didn't say (since that setting wasn't available). I'm not sure if the communication templates can distinguish between a monthly, weekly, or quarterly recurring donation, so we removed the weekly and quarterly options from our donation page and directly added "monthly" to the communication template.

We use it to track and manage donors and donations incoming from various places. This management helps to better the data for requests, follow-ups, and relationship with those donors. We use that history and trends to support grants and fundraising. Our organization also manages grants for research, mainly through academic resources, and eTapestry helps to track those funds.
  • Simplicity
  • Search functions for donors and history
  • Creating and managing reports, this is not an intuitive system
  • The "memory" of accounts and reports recently used is often forgotten
The query and reports are helpful aspects of eTapestry, but it takes a while to learn. Once a user has a better grasp on queries and reports, eTapestry helps to really narrow down searches for users, hone in on specific needs and desires, and give insight as needed. Sometimes the problem lies in the information previously gathered on donors and often in the 'guess and check' nature of learning the query and reports. This is not ideal for those without much CRM experience or who are crunched for time.

We use it to manage donor relations, communications, and fund raising. Keeping track of where we are in relation to revenue goals for reporting to the board of directors is a common task. Making sure we stay in touch with our supporters without missing anyone is very important to us. We plan events and use eTapestry to both invite guests as well as evaluate success.
  • create reports used for managing the organization.
  • Search and find needed data quickly and easily
  • technical support has been outstanding
  • html editor is something I still struggle with, how email looks in eTapestry vs how it displays when sent
Tracking donor information and reports work well. I am new to this software and normally the only person who uses it. Others who use it on occasion are frustrated because they don't understand how to do what they want. I wonder if some of the challenges with documents I have may be that I still need more understanding. Maybe they will solve themselves as I learn. Or maybe they are just not as easy as other products. We some times create documents for email outside of eTapestry because it is easier to get what we want, then import to eTapestry as an image for a mass email.

As a nonprofit, we use eTapestry to record donations and make notes about donors. We also use it to communicate with donors and to track prospects.
  • processing split transactions
  • handling recurring transactions
  • queries and reports
  • personas
The features for donation pages and processing donations work well with Blackbaud Merchant Services.
If an organization has a lot of money to spend on set-up and staff training it might be a good fit. It's not very user friendly for self-teaching.

We use it for donor services management, communication, reporting. We keep track of all donors, how much, when and for which campaign do they give. We also use it to send Mass communication emails and to contact donors individually through email. We also use it to report on our donations for Funds, Campaigns, Annual Reports and more
  • The ability to send mass emails through my level is great.
  • The ability to send individualized emails is helpful.
  • The ability to report on campaigns
  • The ability to create query's of compartmentalized findings.
  • The way mass emails are created.
  • The Creating query process can be difficult without using the Chat button.
  • Creating queries for mass mailings.
  • How you can't correct something across the board once it's loaded to the database.
  • Deleting records is difficult and not user friendly
Reporting of my campaigns TY to LY. The process to get this reporting is very easy.

Being able to send emails to our entire database or to a small specialized group of our donors.

Being able to insert personalized field's into the communications really elevates the letters we write to the donors.

Blackbaud is used to store information on our clients (students), donors (alumni, businesses and corporations), and to run essential reports for student affairs and grants management needs. The database is the central location for knowing where students are located, contact information and much more.
  • Analytics
  • Search easily
  • Running a report
  • Differences in Queries and Reports and the multiple steps
  • Adding images to emails and reaching google email accounts
Blackbaud worked well to run a report on student information for grant reporting.

Blackbaud eTapestry is the database we use to maintain information for alums and anyone connected to the school. We use it to log in donations from our benefactors, keep contact information, notes and it allows us to prepare various reports as needed.
  • Create different funds to log in donations
  • Add fields as needed to prepare accurate reports
  • Prepare letters for constituents
  • Preparing letters can be awkward at times and they don't look the way I want them to look
  • I find the Relationships tab useless. Maybe I just don't understand it.
  • I don't use the Mass Interactions tab because I am not clear on what it is used for
Blackbaud eTapestry works well for logging in donations. It is quite difficult to get a report with cumulative totals.

As a non-profit organization and registered charity, we use Blackbaud eTapestry for our relationships with donors. We use it: (1) as a CRM to track interactions and manage relationships; (2) to record donations; and (3) to produce charitable donation tax receipts. We utilize the query and report features to create mailing lists and to analyze our progress.
  • The main profile page for each donor provides a wealth of information - often there is no need to navigate to other pages of their profile.
  • Entering data into donor profiles - and navigating around the profiles - is quite intuitive.
  • When running queries or reports, the results are produced very quickly.
  • After entering data and navigating from the page you are working on, there is no warning asking, "Do you want to save the information you entered?" If you forget to Save, the data is lost.
  • The 2 step process of adding users - first getting a Blackbaud account and then being invited to join your organization's eTapestry group - feels cumbersome.
While it is not as robust as Raiser's Edge (also a Blackbaud product), Blackbaud eTapestry is a solid application that is, overall, a strong tool for an organization that includes fundraising in its activities. It is a good value for the money. It is well suited for managing and tracking donor relationships, recording donations, and producing charitable donation tax receipts.

We are a theological school. We use it to keep track of students and their requirements in the program--what they have completed, field placements, personnel working with them each year, etc. We also use it to keep track of our graduates and our donors. In the area of Development, I use it for donor mailing lists, segmentation, merging information into communications, mass emails, recording donations, and for finding information.
  • The technicians available to help on chat do quite a good job.
  • The basic training videos are a good introduction
  • Once you know how, constructing a query or report is relatively easy
  • When I started using eTapestry, you had to pay for courses to learn how to do more complicated things in the database. These courses were fairly expensive and our small organization couldn't afford that. I had to figure a lot out on my own or using the tech folks in chat or the odd free thing. Not sure if the courses are still costly or not.
  • It is not particularly user friendly--for example, you would think the drag and drop email template would be pretty straightforward but it is not! And there aren't built in instructions to help as you try to use things.
  • Figuring out how to organize queries and reports and communications in folders in order to find things again has been challenging. It is possible to search on keywords, which is very helpful. But finding something in a list of queries that is not alphabetical isn't particularly easy.
When I am trying to prepare a mailing list for particular donors, I usually construct a report with any possible information I might need, download it into excel, and sort there. The disadvantage is that you can't put a record of that communication on a donor's account.
However, trying to do this sorting in the database itself is very unwieldy, involving many separate queries. It gets complicated, so I don't usually do that.

Sometimes, I construct a query and look at it in preview only to find it includes things that I have specifically tried to eliminate. I guess the query is not constructed correctly but I don't have any idea how to fix this sort of thing.

We use eTap to manage and track our supporters and the fellows who participate in our Fellowship and Academy programs. We also use it to create mailgroups from which we solicit either donations or encourage folks to apply for our programming.
  • Organizes constituent data in an easy to manage and user-friendly way
  • Integrates well with ConstantContact
  • It is somewhat customizable
  • You can't use the Back feature on your browser to return to the previous page.
  • You can't use it in more than one browser window to compare or analyze information
  • The query functionality is complicated and it is hard to get what you're looking for if you're not well trained.
eTapestry is a great solution for startup nonprofits or organizations with a smaller amount of financial supporters. If the majority of your queries are simple and don't require narrowing your base down into very specific groups, you can get the information you need. It's more of a burden if you're dealing with complicated donor segmentation, need quick, on the fly reporting, and if you expect all employees of your organization to use it to its fullest potential. If you've used Raiser's Edge NXT, eTapestry is like that but stripped down and made to be more complicated.

I use eTapestry on a daily basis as our central donor management program. It has all the modules we need and suits the size of our small organization. The customization elements and ability to integrate giving pages in our outside website are valuable tools. Would not be able to continue to run our small non-profit with a high level of professionalism without eTap.
  • Track donor giving history
  • Produce useful reports
  • Integrates with website
  • Provides credit card processing
  • Customizable features
  • Can be challenging to design queries
  • Can't delete fields that are no long in use
eTapestry is well suited for small organizations that want a high quality database at a manageable cost. It is a great alternative to some of Blackbaud's more robust products that are too much for a small organization.

  • notes section - currently lives in journal section which you have to search for
  • lack of ability to set reminders that will email or pop up
  • query issues
It's great for donor database management of grants. It's not great at helping to plan reminders (e.g. birthdays, anniversaries, pledge follow ups, etc.)

We previously used Blackbaud eTapestry as our donor CRM - recording donation activity to help inform future fundraising campaigns and donor stewardship plans. I believe we also used a related product for some of our payment processing.
  • Marketing
  • Not intuitive at all
  • Overly expensive
  • Poor customer service
This product is expensive, hard to follow, and the reporting is awful. Smaller nonprofits would be better served by any number of competitors, or by a simple Excel sheet. Larger nonprofits would be better served by a more customizable product like Salesforce.

We currently use Blackbaud eTapestry to track donations, including how the donation was received, if it is earmarked for a certain purpose, and if it is a memorial or in honor of someone. We also use it to create a variety of mailing lists: newsletters, Christmas cards, and appeals. Recently, I linked it with our Constant Contact account to have better ease of communicating with others. The reports page has also been very helpful in sorting the size of donations and if a person has or has not donated within a specific timeframe. As I am still learning the program, I do foresee using it to maintain better contact with donors by using it to generate personalized letters, either by email or paper mail. As our development department grows, we will also use it to have more specific information under accounts, such as the relationship with the monastery.
  • They have an excellent support team when help is needed via email or a chat.
  • Provide the user with standard reports which saves much time and effort on my part.
  • The interface is user-friendly for the most part.
  • Some of the language and terminology are foreign to users like me; a simple glossary of terms would be helpful.
  • Live classes/webinars are great but are very fast. A recording of those would be nice to review.
  • Sometimes I find quicker answers by googling or using Youtube than Blackbaud eTapestry's help button.
I think it is a great program and has tons of potential for my organization. It has taken me a while to learn it, as I use it at a part-time position and have had no training. Self-teaching is not always the quickest, but I do eventually learn. If you want to keep track of donors, campaigns, and donations, this makes it a much easier process than no process at all or trying to coordinate spreadsheets from different programs.

We use Blackbaud eTapestry within our development department as a means of storing donor data, tracking income from individuals (donations, recurring gifts; pledges), foundations (grants), and licensing fees. We reference our data in Blackbaud eTapestry extremely frequently - to draw financial reports for accounting, to develop mailing lists/invite lists, to draft acknowledgment letters, etc. Blackbaud eTapestry has been helpful as a donor management database for us mostly.
  • Donor management
  • Reports
  • Not aesthetically pleasing or easy to use giving pages
  • No customizable tagging features
  • Lack of integrations
Blackbaud eTapestry is definitely better suited for small and budding organizations. It is a solid CRM for donor management and report pulling, but in terms of fundraising help (giving pages), integration with other platforms (income processing, email marketing, event management), and customizable features (like tagging, analytical information, etc.), it is lacking. This is not for organizations looking for totally centralized software. It is, however, great for those who are looking for their first CRM to help with keeping donor information organized and easily accessible.

We are a fairly small non-profit and use Blackbaud eTapestry to manage our database of donors and other stakeholders. This includes CRM functions such as tracking pledges and donations, accepting online donations using the built-in DIY forms, issuing tax receipts and thank-you letters, managing relationships, moves management, tracking fundraising campaigns, financial reconciliation, running queries and reports and sending mass emails. It is currently the only CRM our organization uses.
  • Offers robust query and report building
  • Intuitive interface
  • Allows for custom fields
  • I would like to see more customization options for DIY forms
  • I would like to see more mobile-friendly options for e-mail communications (e.g., thank-you letters)
  • This software is very good for fundraising relationship management, including tracking pledges, gifts, communications, meetings, thank-you letters, and stewardship reports.
  • This software has a very robust query and reports function, allowing deep dives into constituent/fundraising data and year-end reporting.
  • This software does not particularly excel at creating well-designed and mobile-friendly DIY forms (such as online donation forms) or e-mail communications -- however, we use these functions anyways as the benefit of having everything automatically tracked in the back-end is huge.

We use Blackbaud eTapestry to document all of our donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations. We also use it to track our communication and connection with donors and to see their giving history over time. Blackbaud eTapestry allows us to see different types of giving reports and make queries to give us data related to different giving questions that we are asking.
  • Allows me to add connection points with donors
  • Puts all of our donor information in one accessible location
  • Gives us giving data over time
  • It is difficult to add information about a donor and to make that information visible and quickly findable.
  • It isn't easy to merge this software with QuickBooks, which is a pain for our administration.
  • The format feels out of date and not as easily navigable as I'd like it to be.
Blackbaud eTapestry isn't the most adaptable system in our experience. When we've wanted to pull specific data, it isn't as easy as we'd like it to be. We've spent many hours with Blackbaud support trying to figure out how to make eTapestry pull the data that we're looking for, and ultimately it's felt like a pretty big time sink. In addition to that, once we reached 1,000 donors, our cost increased, which is challenging for a small nonprofit.

I use Blackbaud eTapestry primarily for our newsletters and thank you letters to donors. The database and personas that can be attached help us keep track of who we have been in contact with and when they have last volunteered/donated. I love the ability to add notes to a profile, but that is currently the only way I've been able to track my volunteers rather than it actually having its own tracking system.
  • Database tracking
  • Newsletter tracking
  • Mailing tracking
  • More options for newsletters: the images can't be deleted from the gallery, background images don't fill the screen
I like its ability to show how many accounts don't have email addresses or have opted out of our mailing. When printing and mailing out thank you cards, it offers the option to make a note of the contact, but since I sometimes go back and forth before officially mailing it out, it's not always accurate but could be if there was an "initiated" option and then a follow-up option that confirms the offline action was completed.

We currently use Blackbaud eTapestry to collect information on people engaged in our programs and mission. The primary use is to record and track donations through our various events and campaigns. Additionally, we use Blackbaud eTapestry to collect donations made through our website which automatically populates the Blackbaud database.
  • It collects A LOT of information from a constituent if available
  • It has the capability to accept imports of data from other collection sources (Race Roster, Constant Contact)
  • There are many types of reports that can be run depending on what is needed
  • The trainings and customer service are thorough and responsive
  • There doesn't seem to be an easy way to segment off old, outdated data and not have it be part of the current records
  • It sometimes seems overwhelming, with all of the choices and functionality. Is there a way to 'turn off certain features or reports that we know we won't ever use or that don't apply to our industry/organization?
Blackbaud eTapestry is well suited to an organization or company that has many types of users or constituents. Having a dedicated person or small team to manage the database is key. As we are finding, it is only as useful as the data put into it. Stale and irregular updates do not give an accurate picture of the organization's database. In my opinion, a small organization may be overwhelmed by Blackbaud eTapestry unless a scalable version can be crafted to suit their needs.

We use eTapestry to track our donors, corporate sponsors, funders, and the donations we receive from these groups. I run reports for our executive team to show campaign results, board contributions, grants received, grant status, and donor trends. We also use it for our DIY forms to process online donations to our organization. We also use the Blackbaud Merchants Services and receive a Disbursement Report as to the number and amounts of donations made by credit card.
  • Enables smaller organizations to have a comprehensive database that easily runs queries and reports.
  • Allows organizations to accept credit cards at a lower merchant rate without having to use additional platforms such as Paypal or Stripe.
  • Donors can be tagged to identify their interests or roles with the organization: ex. Board member, volunteer, golfer, auction donor, event sponsor, etc.
  • Tracking incoming grant processes: award letter received, reports due, sign contract.
  • Integrating eTapestry Communications with Canva would be nice.
  • Training classes that don't start at 5am on the West Coast.
Affordable for smaller nonprofits that cannot afford Raisers Edge from Blackbaud. The pricing tiers can be more suited to these smaller organizations. For example, charges are determined by how many constituents are in the database. The lowest tier is 5000 constituents. If you go over that, the next tier is at 10,000 constituents. There should be a pricing tier in between, such as 7500 constituents. That's a big jump to make for smaller organizations.

Blackbaud eTapestry has unlimited users, so we were able to get all the people who needed access, access without breaking the bank.
  • The help desk is excellent.

I manage to fundraise, enter donations, produce donor correspondence, and create reports and donor lists for appeals. I use it daily to foster donor relations, increase giving, advise on fundraising strategies, communicate with donors (email and letters), and analyze and predict trends. The library's database includes 5,000 donors. About 500 donate regularly.
  • Displays donor information and gives history in an easy-to-understand and report fashion.
  • Website forms are dependable.
  • Offers many report options.
  • It does not allow for uploading lists of donors to tag their accounts (such as when I pull a list of donors to send them an appeal letter (produced by an outside vendor). There's no way to mark their accounts as having been sent the letter).
  • The Thank You letters for recurring gifts do not have a merge tag that inserts their gift amount.
  • Web forms are very limited.
It does not offer text correspondence with donors. The designs for emails, letters, and forms are very limited. The report options are plentiful but very complicated. Other donor database vendors have kept up with new technology and ways to reach donors, but eTapestry has not. It seems antiquated and limits our ability to reach younger donors.

We use Blackbaud eTapestry as our donor database. It keeps track of donor, prospect, and alumni information, giving, and history. From this, we are able to create mailing lists, pull financial queries, and a variety of reporting for development and organizational use. It is also integrated with the Blackbaud Merchant Services, so we create online giving forms and online gifts automatically import and are acknowledged.
  • Integrates with BBMS
  • Bulk gift importing and bulk acknowledgements
  • Storing information
  • Applying recurring gifts to a pledge.
  • Setting max ticket amount for DI form events.
  • Some ability for recurring donors to cancel recurring gifts on their own
  • More in-depth querying (I used Raiser's Edge in my previous job and Blackbaud eTapestry querying/ reporting is so much less comprehensive and user-friendly.)
It is best suited to very small non-profits with small budgets. It is a very basic donor database.
