I am a PhD student and about to plunge into my dissertation so I will use Qualtrics to distribute my survey instrument. Qualtrics is also being used by our department to survey opinions and vote upon policy/decisions - saving from time wasted in meetings.
  • I am a novice user of Qualtrics. Never used it before, other than to respond to surveys. But when it was time for me to upload my survey instrument, Qualtrics was so intuitive.
  • I like that I can customize the end-of-survey messages to as many as I want.
  • Tech support is the best. To a distraught ABD (all-but-dissertation) doctoral student - a prompt, efficient, patient and simple "I will walk you through this" message from tech support is immensely helpful.
  • The manual was not very helpful.
  • When previewing the survey, Qualtrics makes me start from the beginning. I wanted to "test" the last 2 questions on 50-item survey. So a feature that allows me to skip, so to speak, to the block that I want to "test" or "run".
Testing an instrument prior to doing factor analysis - appropriate.

We are using Qualtrics to study low-income workers at a number of large organizations. We are learning about loyalty, work quality, and quality of life following an income-based policy change. The data will help us learn the effect of the policy on worker's life and work and inform us of any unintentional consequences.
  • Live data collection
  • Branching, randomization, and skip logic are all easy to use and effective for excellent research methodology.
  • Great customer service support.
  • More tracking reports to help evaluate various survey recruitment strategies
Qualtrics is excellent for any kind of survey. It is as easy to use as something like Survey Monkey, but participant data is safer, more options are available, and technical support is a quick phone call away.

As a higher education institution, our students, our faculty, and our staff have a need to survey. The functionality of Qualtrics, together with amazing support, both technical and functional, make it a key component to our success. It has been used to support student research, faculty research, and many administrative and staff needs. I cannot imagine a better survey product.
  • Variety of question types.
  • Ability to use their 'built in' mailer supporting sending of reminders and thank-yous.
  • The quality of their technical and functional support knows no bounds . . . simply and totally excellent.
  • it would be nice if we were able to sort accounts in creative ways . . . it would make deletion of accounts a lot less taxing.
We have used Qualtrics for:

- student research, required for classes;
- faculty research, necessary for publication
- staff and administrator research, necessary for a multitude of assessments and survey work

We use Qualtrics in different business of the company. Originally we used Qualtrics exclusively for research purposes. Then we started using it for other purposes both internally and externally. Now we have more than 150 users.
  • It is extremely easy to use and the data analysis can be initiated within Qualtrics and is easily manageable.
  • Customer service is excellent and very competent.
  • Qualtrics is continually updating the ease of the system.
  • It is very easy to teach users.
  • When I am transferring surveys from one user to another I would like the recipient of the surveys to have a folder designated exclusively to those surveys. As it is now, that person receives the surveys in the uncategorized survey folder.
This is a fantastic survey platform. The people working for Qualtrics are very polite and their expertise is superb.

Qualtrics is used by faculty members to develop surveys for research purposes.
  • Excellent platform that is very user-friendly.
  • Very strong and supportive customer service.
  • Qualtrics provides a wide array of survey options to meet your research needs.
  • The program would be more powerful if it provided access to some stellar survey examples with construction hints.
Qualtrics is well suited for a variety of research surveys, classroom assignments, and general data collection. I have used it for all these purposes. In addition, the reports and distribution option are very useful. Qualtrics is not well suited for data analysis and interpretation. However, it is an extremely powerful and useful tool to researchers and scholars.

We use Qualtrics to gather post-graduation data. We use Qualtrics across our entire campus. We currently have over 2100 faculty, staff, and administrators that use Qualtrics. Our students also use Qualtrics. Using Qualtrics enables us to collect the data and analyze it for prospecting students. Also to ensure we are staying on track with our strategic goals, and to see trends in what students are studying.

  • Qualtrics is the data gathering tool that I believe everyone should utilize. Learning modules is my favorite. We can build and use learning modules for career readiness.
  • Gathering data by creating a survey for post graduation data.
  • Reporting is especially simplified using Qualtrics. I love the visualization tools in the reporting function.
  • Having a pop out feature of items like the Survey flow, reporting, and Data and Analysis tools would be nice.
  • A quick preview of the custom messages when selecting them for end of survey would be nice.
Data analysis, surveys, and gathering data on the experience is where Qualtrics is most well suited.

I work at the University of Virginia as a researcher. The university has an organization license which allows all staff and faculty (possibly students too? I"m not sure) to use Qualtrics. The use cases may differ widely, but some that I've seen are: collecting feedback from internal or external stakeholders for organizational improvement, experimental studies, and academic research survey. For academic researchers (like me), it's a wonderful way to quickly gather data in a clean and structured form. The main advantage of using Qualtrics is it makes making a questionnaire – no matter the needs – a breeze, thanks to the large arsenal of customizable question types it offers.
  • The large number of types of questions one can use.
  • The user interface and user experience.
  • Customer service.
  • While the user interface is excellent, it can be improved further to create a more pleasing user experience. Some options are hidden at places that are not intuitive enough.
  • It's currently not easy to customize the look and feel of the survey without using CSS.
If you have a need to collect information in a structured form from a group of people, it's the best tool around. This can be related to external market research or internal polls or anything in-between.I can't think of a scenario where it wouldn't serve well or a better tool exists.

We are using Qualtrics to run market research surveys for clients, quickly.
  • Fast & knowledgable user support - chat and phone calls even if you're not a huge customer.
  • Ease of use - building a survey just makes sense. It's intuitive and logical.
  • Survey robustness - huge array of modern question types.
  • Ability to remind specific groups to take a survey (i.e. - partial responses).
  • More robust email analytics (open rates).
  • Ability to use embedded data in cross tabs.
Qualtrics is great for designing robust surveys quickly. However, if you need something that is highly custom, you might look elsewhere.

The Insight Platform is used the most on campus. Students learn the platform by using it in real-world applications to complete individual and group projects. At an administration level, we use Qualtrics to provide support for certain services and technologies that enable us to respond quickly and efficiently to faculty and student requests. Faculty have begun using the brand-new Qualtrics LTI for use in Canvas by Instructure. This tool allows faculty to create adaptive and engaging quizzes in Qualtrics. Scores are then automatically passed back to the Canvas grade book. We will soon be implementing Qualtrics 360 for select departments on campus. MBA students will be able to provide and receive valuable feedback for each other for group projects. The Nursing Program will use this tool to facilitate crucial evaluations for students completing clinical rotations with neighboring healthcare providers.
  • Qualtrics is immediately usable to the most novice or experienced of users. The user interface is inherently easy to grasp.
  • New users can immediately create surveys that are easy to build, distribute, and analyze.
  • Experienced users can easily implement powerful customizations that provide the right insight to key people for immediate decision making.
  • The ability to branch surveys based on responses from the user is incredibly powerful. The method to implement the branching could be adjusted a little to be more visually intuitive. Either color codes distinguishing the various branches or a method to pivot the view so it looks like a traditional decision tree, so you can more easily navigate your work.
  • The html editor could use a refresher. It would be great to have a more modern editor that uses colors to differentiate the various html tags.
Honestly, for my position, I use Qualtrics for everything but surveys. I have implemented its simple yet powerful features to facilitate more efficient processes for daily activities, which have significantly decreased time needed for tasks, the number of steps to complete a task, and the use of paper for these tasks. Qualtrics simplifies processes. It really is that powerful.

We use Qualtrics to implement surveys in healthcare settings across the entire organization. Qualtrics is used to survey healthcare staff, executives, and collect policy data. I addresses the health communication needs of healthcare settings.
  • Their customer service is phenomenal. It is clear they care about their customers.
  • They have detailed user guides to help you understand every aspect of what you are doing.
  • Their interface is welcoming and clean. It makes things easier to navigate.
  • Qualtrics does not have the group editing capability that is needed for our projects. There is often a lag or save failure if more than one of us are trying to edit a survey.
  • The analysis of the surveys could be more in depth. There are only preliminary analysis options, but I wish it had the capabilities of Excel.
  • Going back to editing, there are often times edits will not be saved, or will be lost completely. I wish there was a Save or Undo button.
Qualtrics is best suited for one time use. It is not quite capable of continued use, which is what we often use it for.

We use Qualtrics for educational purposes, research and customer satisfaction.
The growth of users and usage is very big because of several points:
- easy to use
- self-supporting and great help pages. Also the helpdesk is very helpful and response is quick
- a lot of functions in building great surveys
- great options for data: downloads to CSV, TSV, SPSS, XML
- a lot of benefits in building reports (tables, charts and aditional text).
  • Great GUI
  • Self-supporting
  • A lot of functions
  • Some stats are unavailable yet where SPSS will be used, but this will be in the future in Qualtrics

Qualtrics is a great survey platform. I use it to collect assessment data, as well as sign-up information for events. I know a variety of people who use it on our campus in various offices. It allows us to easily assess a large number of people by sharing one easy link.
  • The functionality of designing surveys is intuitive and easy to understand.
  • Customer support has always been top-notch. The very few times I've had a problem I couldn't answer myself, the staff at Qualtrics have been amazing.
  • Qualtrics makes it easy to distribute surveys in a variety of venues.
  • The new reports tool can be challenging to navigate. I've had trouble with this since the upgrade, and I know others who have too.
Qualtrics is great for an event rsvp, collection assessment data following an event, or assessing the outcomes of a specific program. It is a tool that can be used by entry-level professionals in our field as well as senior administrators on our college campus. Qualtrics is being used across the university to include the students. Our users love it and how easy it is to create a survey. Qualtrics support is absolutely phenomenal! Qualtrics is used for course evaluations. It is also being used for research, creating quizzes and to sign up for seminars.
  • Qualtrics University is available for anyone that has a question. You can search the site and usually get your answer quickly. It is easy to understand and you can apply logic to your survey quickly.
  • Exporting and importing data could never be easier than it is with Qualtrics.
  • From an administrator's perspective, you can now transfer ownership of a user (that may have retired or left a department) to another Qualtrics user account.
  • I would like to see more reporting options.
  • I would like to see more examples of "end of survey" messages in the library. It would be nice to just pick one rather than writing your own.

  • Great customer care. I have had to contact Qualtrics for assistance a few times. I have gotten very timely responses with great feedback.
  • Easy to access. The help and support sections are very easy to navigate.
  • Keeps their customers informed about changes through tutorials and videos. This definitely sets them apart from other providers.
  • They are culturally adaptable. It takes into consideration the platforms that they perform through, be it mobile platforms, new updates, etc.
  • Templates for email distributions, messages, etc.
  • Ability to import surveys from Word or PDF formats

Saint Louis University uses Qualitrics to develop surveys in many different areas. I developed a survey using Qqualtrics for a research study from which we collected data from the survey. I am in the process of developing a survey using Qualtrics for another research study to collect data from residents in training at the university.
  • Qualtrics is very easy to design.
  • The ability to use blocks has been a great tool along with the multiple different question types.
  • Randomization is another tool that we are currently using and seems to work very well. We are randomizing sets of questions using blocks.
  • Data Analysis is clear and the ability to download the data to a CSV file is particularly helpful to us.
  • End of Survey functions could be a little clearer to implement.

I can not speak to how Qualtrics is used by the whole organization, but several faculty and staff [members] are using Qualtircs in our department. We have a plethora of uses, most commonly we developed a set of interactive surveys that evaluate and assess student perceptions.
  • Perception surveys ( What did the faculty or students think about a course or part of a class).
  • Team rating ( we use qualtrics to have teams rate each other and themselves in senior captsone design projects).
  • Qualtrics can do some amazing item analysis before we even pull the data.
  • Using a pipe line (where text gets pulled from one question and put in the next ) is not a straightforward process.
  • Sometimes there are functionalities that [require] you to repeat the same process instead of [being] an automated process. For example, when creating a pipeline question followed by a display logic, you can't just copy the code for the item.
Qualtrics is best used for interactive surveys that pull data from one source (previous question for example) and then show it in the next question.

Qualtrics has been used to support a diverse variety of online survey research application. These varied uses include short experience-sampling mobile surveys, more traditional lengthier online surveys, longitudinal surveys with timed reminders, offline surveys completed using a tablet in the presence of participants, and in-house surveys used primarily in place of database software, such as in the case of a rubric used to code thousands of records by teams of researchers.
  • The interface allows for fast, intuitive and semi-automated survey building, which saves time and is easy for new users to learn.
  • The interface has some powerful features including piped text, embedded data, contact lists and automated reminders for completion.
  • The support team is amazing in my experience. They are extremely knowledgeable and professional and almost available 24/7. I hope they are paid well as they handle very complex applications and systems with high levels of professionalism.
  • The complete survey revision history allows you to easily take a step back in the event of a mistake.
  • Automated reminders can be limited in terms of timing, and alternative contact avenue integration (e.g. SMS, Facebook, LinkedIn, multiple email addresses, etc.) would be excellent.
  • A slightly faster internet response time when building/altering surveys.
  • The look and feel of the survey is limited unless one is able to undertake some custom coding.
For all online survey applications, Qualtrics will meet the need. For complex mixing and matching of question types, Qualtrics may require multiple questions to be used. However, it does have a wide array of question types generally suitable to all scenarios.

Qualtrics is being used across multiple academic and administrative offices within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Qualtrics aids in teaching students statistics and data collection, helping administrators coordinate schedules and analyze resource needs, and helping professors carrying out sophisticated studies to answer basic and applied questions in neuropsychology, industrial/organizational psychology, social psychology, perception, and cognitive psychology.
  • Ease of user interface. The programming underlying Qualtrics allows for dynamic and rich text editing of question type, ordering, presentation, and administrating. One of the greatest strengths is it helps the apprehensive learn to love data collection. This is because you feel empowered by how easy it is to design and set-up a study.
  • The branching, embedded data, and conditional responses can be used for more sophisticated applications in research, such as counterbalancing, randomization, pre-screening, and tracking carelessness in participants' responses. Even better is the fact so many other platforms are designing unique ways to interface with Qualtrics given its popularity. For instance, I can gather a large sample for numerous research questions on MTurk within a matter of seconds all thanks to the fact that Qualtrics can take in unique ids from Mturk and provide randomized codes for those completing the study. This automates the process and saves a ton of time.
  • Qualtrics has very responsive customer service. They always respond within a data, are truly interested in understanding your problem, and will send you useful videos and screenshots highlighting how they helped problem solve the particular issue. This has the doubled advantage of solving my issue but also teaching me more about the mechanics of Qualtrics.
  • Less "packaged" products. Qualtrics appears to be going the way of SPSS where more useful, advanced features are being bundled off and sold separately. This is very undesirable if you're wanting to adopt Qualtrics for all research needs. They have 360 feedback reports, API integration, and longitudinal/experiential sampling capabilities which are exorbitantly expensive and incentivize me to seek out other options. Since they got their start in academics, if would be nice if they respected these roots and offered more discounts for pure or applied research purposes.
  • The reporting function is static and difficult to manipulate. I believe the 360 add-on is better, but also demands more money. It would be ideal if you could customize the graphs, add text, use pivot tables, and manipulate the data and presentation more easily with the base report package.
  • Statistical manipulations. The coding and application of more advanced statistics to the data within Qualtrics is rife with potential error. Even calculating a mean can be a frustrating experience if brackets aren't spaced correctly. Further, the scoring option outputs numerical information without rounding. This makes piping such information within the survey ugly and jarring for participants.
  • Upper-level customer service. While I have found the basic technical support superb, I have had difficulty interacting with more upper-level management and sales for support on advanced issues, such as auto enrollment, forms and paperwork, and price negotiation. They have an outstanding product but would be better if they were less profit- and more service-oriented as a whole.
It is well suited if you have a large enterprise, many people are collecting data, and you want an easy to use and enjoyable experience for both designers and takers of surveys or tests. It is less appropriate if you are wanting cheaper, more complicated, or an integrative research platform that covers experimental design, statistical analyses, and visualization all in one. That is, Qualtrics is great at data collection but may cost more money to carry out improved reporting and longitudinal data collection.

I'm using Qualtrics as a PhD student through my university. It's running my survey instrument in the data gathering stage.
  • One of the greatest strengths of Qualtrics is its customer service. I created a complex survey tool that required some functionality outside my knowledge base. Qualtrics support saved the day and made it easy.
  • The front facing user interface of surveys is professional, crisp and easy to use.
  • [I'm] still adjusting to the transition from the old version. It's a pretty radical change to the back end interface, so it's been challenging becoming familiar with the new version. New users I think will find it easier overall than the old version. It's just an adjustment period for older users.
The customer service alone makes me think I could do anything using Qualtrics. They have saved the day on multiple occasions.
