Overall Satisfaction with Deputy

We use Deputy primarily for scheduling staff and time keeping. I really like the ease of use for scheduling, I often just use the copy and paste feature to get the schedule for the coming week made! It never takes me more than 10 minutes to make the schedule with Deputy. We also use the Deputy app to clock in and out, audit timesheets, and report time for payroll. It [is] super straightforward to use and easy to navigate. If someone forgets to clock in or clock in late it's very easy to edit their timesheet. Another feature that is SUPER handy is the Newsfeed. I use this for all company updates with our employees. It's so handy and effective. Before I was sending out mass text messages, which was such a pain! The phone app pushes notifications when I send out an update or publish the schedule, as well as sends an email to all users. It has really helped with our overall communication within the company. From time to time we use the tasks feature as well. It's great for assigning tasks to a specific work area, shift, or employee.
  • Employee Scheduling - So straightforward and easy to use! Love the copy & past feature!
  • Timekeeping - the App & Kiosk are perfect for employees to clock in and out in a matter of seconds
  • Company Communication - the Newsfeed feature makes it easy to keep everyone up to date on company announcements
  • Task Management - simple to use task lists help keep my team organized
  • Direct Messages - I'd love to just direct message employees.
  • Training - Perhaps some onboarding documentation or a create your own training program. I feel like that is the next step in the evolution for Deputy. I would like the option to upload documentation and videos and then create a small quiz per "section" I'm currently using Google for Quizzes, I think Deputy can add this and charge more for it!
  • Payroll Time-Saving - It's quick and easy to navigate! I can get a Birdseye view over Payroll and have it done in a snap.
  • Employee Communication - Our management to Employee communication has increased exponentially due to the Newsfeed feature
  • Staying Organized with Tasks - Less and less is falling through the cracks with the Tasks feature. Employees can even assign tasks to Management which is super handy!
I left Planday specifically for Deputy because of the Tasks feature! Clockify I used in-between as a test run and I found it lacking quality even to Planday. I have experience with Hubstaff from my days in website design (agency). Hubstaff is better suited for piece-work and freelancers but can be overly complicated/confusing and their support is lackluster. Overall I feel Deputy fits the needs of my retail business best and customer service is helpful, but I haven't needed to reach out much because of how INTUITIVE and straightforward Deputy is designed!

I think Deputy was designed very intuitively. I have experience in the tech space and the biggest setback when selling software as a service is how easily new client onboarding can be. Most software websites don't even properly explain WHAT THEIR SOFTWARE DOES. I really appreciate how easy it was to understand the features Deputy offers along with the pricing structure. They say, "you confuse you lose," but that wasn't the case with Deputy. As a small business owner, it can be very overwhelming choosing the right tools/programs/software for your business and employees but Deputy did a great job guiding the buyer (ME) through the process.
Onboarding was super easy! I do like that Deputy offers an app - especially in a post-COVID world! Makes it safer and easier for my employees to clock in. Adding employees is a simple setup, and I didn't even have to really explain anything to my team. I simply asked them to download the app and they figured out the rest.
I've used other platforms in the past like Plan Day and Hubstaff - but Deputy works best for retail, food service, and other shift work professions. I own a retail store, so the scheduling system and its ability to assign tasks really work for what I need. I don't know how well Deputy would suit an agency with freelancers - as Hubstaff does that very well, but I do see the potential to offer a version of Deputy that targets that audience.

Using Deputy

9 - I have a small team of employees at two different retail locations - sales, customer service, operations management, & maintenance. Each team member oversees a different area of daily operations. We use Deputy to help keep us connected, especially since we work in different locations and varying shifts.
5 - Most of my employees use Deputy to track their time and check their schedule. We also use the app to delegate and complete tasks and communicate at a company wide level. It really helps us stay connected and organized. The best part is ANYONE CAN USE DEPUTY! There is no special skills or training required, its very straightforward if you've ever used any type of social media or even email before. Just sign up and GO!
  • Scheduling! Creating a weekly schedule for my employees.
  • Tasks! Assigning tasks by employee or department or shift.
  • Communication! The Newsfeed makes is super easy for mass communication.
  • Team Chat - we also use it for fun conversations on the fly.
  • I'm hoping for an place to add training materials/build an onboarding program.
I am highly satisfied with Deputy! I don't see a reason to change time tracking platforms (I literally tried 7 or 8 before I found Deputy)!
