Overall Satisfaction with Slack

We are a remote team and we have clients across the globe and Slack plays a very crucial role in establishing the communications internally and with our clients.

We use Slack for ad-hoc communications, we huddle atleast 3-4 times in a day for quicker and detailed meetings. Slack has been very helpful in the last 3 years of my remote work life in maintaining the communications flowing. I use notes feature a lot to save important information accessible to everyone in the channel.
  • Setting up quick meetings via huddle is the favorite feature. It instantly opens door for quick and ad-hoc communications very well and is a pretty useful feature.
  • I am using notes feature recently very often to keep track of the important action items for the day, saving key credentials that are to be shared across the teams and I replaced my personal dm for storing drafts with the notes functionality.
  • Catch-up feature on the desktop app is also pretty useful to quickly go through all the pending messages and very thoughtful feature from Slack, it keeps me upto date and saves time at the start of the day.
  • Remind me later is something I use pretty often, I may not be able to work on that but definately wants to go through it in detail and respond, then this feature comes very handy to keep check on such messages and helps us not get lost especially when working across teams.
  • I observed that when a huddle is initiated and if the other person joins right instatly it sometimes won't establish the connection and I could not be heard by the others or viceversa and often requires them to rejoin.
  • Searching also becomes a bit challenging, it would be good if there's a date range filter to check the messages from a specific date range as often times it's very hard to find those months back messages.
  • Despite Slack helping for ad-hoc meetings and quick un-planned conversation, it would be good if there's an option to set-up automated recurring meetings like we have daily stand-ups for that we had to set-up a google calendar invite just that it sends remiders and keep things organised. Fun fact we still use huddle to make these stand-up calls but google calendar is used to remind us of this as a placeholder.
  • I read about AI integration but yet to experience it, otherwise having an AI bot to help around within Slack could really help, currently before sending important messages I am taking the content to gemini or chatgpt for corrections and correctness and pasting it back on Slack, an integrated AI system would help in getting this done within the Slack.
  • It helped us in establishing and building internal relationships with the team members working remotely, we were able to grow our team and clients with trust and transparent relationships. Slack had played the crucial role is this process.
  • The turn around time has improved significantly about 30% by using huddles for quick collaborations.
  • I am able to save 5-10% of my weekly time by using the catch-up feature of Slack where it keeps all the action items to look at in one place.
Microsoft Teams is integrated with Microsoft 365, making it a convenient choice for those already using Microsoft’s suite of productivity tools.

Slack is known for its versatility and user-friendly interface, making it the preferred messaging app for many organizations. It adapts well to various work environments, including remote teams, and requires almost no learning curve, our current state of organisation does not require a Microsoft Teams and we mostly use google suite and work remotely with other gobal start-ups so Slack is preferred both by the clients and us.

Yes

Did Slack live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Slack go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Slack again?

Yes

Overall my experience with Slack is very positive and I am optimistic that for all start-ups and new age companies out there Slack would be the go-to option with no other competing alternatives. But there are still some room for improvement so I would rate it 9 out of 10.
