Overall Satisfaction with TeamViewer

TeamViewer is currently used by select departments across our institution. We use it mostly for remote assistance and partially for remote access.
  • Accessing work computers remotely: We set this up for our employees so that they can work from home when they are either unable to be here physically or are out for some other reason. Even though we have a rather robust VPN, the downsides to it versus TeamViewer are so vast that most prefer using TV instead.
  • Remote Assistance: I and my colleagues provide remote assistance to many users and it is just not possible to go physically to each workstation. TV makes this possible. I have even created a training video on how to download, install and use TV on either MAC or PC so that users can be guided through the process. This video tutorial is one of our most accessed tutorials to date.
  • Multiple Screens: TeamViewer does an excellent job of remoting into workstations with multiple displays without moving all active programs onto one display. This is unfortunately true of our VPN solution. Being able to remotely access both screens is a godsend.
  • Viewing what is being done: The end-user can see exactly what you are doing and you can explain each step, so that the next time they see the same problem they will be able to solve it on their own.
  • The recording capabilities of TeamViewer are not as robust as one would like. It does not help that it records TV's own format (tvs) instead of MP4. mpeg, avi or something similar.
  • Logging: The time logging in the console is not as exacting as it could be considering all the information that is there.
  • Security: Although TV allows you to use MFA to login, it does not seem very adequate, security wise, once you have entered into a closed (NATed) network.
  • Employees are more likely to remote in in order to work when they are not physically able to be in the workplace.
  • Tracking is easier to use than our VPN tracking.
TeamViewer is much better than Netscaler Gateway in that our implementation of NSG does not support multiple screens. I stopped using LogMeIn, all versions, because TV was licensed by the institution and LMI was not.
Best suited for Remote help/helpdesk scenarios or remote access.
