8x8 Virtual Office is a convenient and cost-efficient office service. However, realistically be prepared that there will be issues that come up that are difficult to resolve. For example, our office is unable to use the computer to answer phone calls because our computer setup is not compatible with the VoIP system.

The Salesforce App is ideal for tracking status of opportunities, being able to access already entered contacts and their relevant information, keeping track of conversations and details for a refresher as well as mapping information. Due to the nature of sales and the many meetings to keep track of, I was entering "notes" from my meetings upon returning to my vehicle before heading to the next appointment, which was of extreme value. It allowed my to clear my thoughts before my next meeting.It is less appropriate for entering accounts, contacts and so forth. This is all easier executed with a regular computer in my experience.

  • The user interface feels is incredibly boring and definitely reminds you that you are at work, though feels like you are at work on a Windows 95 computer.
  • Pricing was way too high compared to the competition and e-fax was even more expensive.
  • It is not special. There is absolutely nothing in it that made me feel impressed to any significant degree. I say this not to be mean, but they do not offer anything that is worth paying even half the price they are asking for.

  • I'd like to see more flexibility with reporting (at not such a high cost). There are many dashboard products on the market which are free and offer better dashboard capapbilities then Salesforce does.
  • The focus on small businesses is still lacking. Understanding it's hard to scale, I'd like to see more vertical concentration in the small business area.
  • Along with more focus on small businesses, I think it would be really beneficial to Salesforce to have better focus on customer success as it related to small businesses.

In the time I have used 8x8 Virtual Office, the core system has been up and running almost flawlessly though we do have a slight performance degradation from time to time as is expected of cloud software. The one recurring issue for us is that the fax connection is not always functional for outbound messages. We usually have to retry three or four times to get the fax to connect reliably to the destination machine. Once connected, it's smooth sailing.

None of the features that are available slow down the application. The reports (even the ones with hundreds of records) complete very quickly and the web interface as well as the mobile application never struggle to load or complete a task. The analytics will sometimes take some time to reflect the online status of users but it is to be expected due to connection speeds.

I think that overall support is pretty good and very scalable. When I need someone to jump on a call, they are rather fast to get back to us. However, it requires someone dedicated internally to make sure the platform is working correctly. Indeed, sometimes, you don't have time to wait for support to have things working correctly so you need someone internally.

Executive involvement is critical. Make sure you have a good handle on the metrics you would like to ultimately manage. Work as a team to document your business requirements. Whiteboard often. Understand Salesforce's best practice capabilities.

Have a central person identified to handle all report and analysis requests (ie - don't allow multiple people to create reports; have one person create reports and distribute them to decision makers via the Salesforce dashboard or whatever form). Make sure you understand critical dates and develop the project plan accordingly

Alternatives Considered

When we choosing 8x8 we looked at a few alternatives such as Comcast and AT&T. Both of these companies required local equipment or additional cost to host the phone lines. Also, both required a minimum 2yr contract with penalties for canceling early on top of costing more than 8x8. Ultimately we chose 8x8 for the flexibility of being able to move and if it didn't work out there was no penalty for canceling.

Our organization is very disciplined in the sense of governance which is absolutely necessary in order to be successful with such a flexible tool. I have owned Salesforce.com implementations from >10 up to 14,000 users, and Salesforce.com offers the same amount of value no matter whether you're running a small business or expanding an enterprise globally

We've had periods where our organization has grown a considerable amount and we have had no issues in scaling our communications with 8x8. The number of possible extensions that we can use is far more than we expect to go through in a very long time. The only complaint that I have is a very minor inconvenience for me where I have to download activation codes for each phone. I would prefer to have the phones automatically activated as soon as they are plugged in.

  • There is no cost for the back end system, this makes it much easier to get started.
  • The only downside on cost is that not only do you have a monthly cost from the service, you also need to have a solid Internet connection. Fortunately, most businesses will already have this, and you would need to pay for service anyway
  • Because it is hosted elsewhere it truly kept us in business after hurricane Irma because we were still able to answer calls and service our customers.
