Act-On

If you have an existing CRM system, like Microsoft 365, you can integrate campaign automation with Act-On, and then it is worth most of the time it takes to get less-experienced employees on-boarded. In other cases that require more minimal use, the on-boarding may be too lengthy. In that case, it may be better-suited to choose a different SaaS that tracks campaign, ROI, lead scoring, etc.

Pros

  • Digital marketing campaign integrations, like Google Adwords, email tracking, other tools that track audiences, and website integrations like WordPress or Square Space.
  • The customer support, from what I've heard, is very good.
  • Integrations with other CRM systems make this really easy to add to a company's workflow.

  • Number One- The support. Implementation was seamless, but anytime I have a question, the support team goes above and beyond to make sure everything is taken care of. I want to stress that these are not support bugs, or software glitches, but training and real-life application. They have the patience and professionalism unrivaled by other experiences I've had with software vendors.
  • The UI is incredibly intuitive. Clear tiles and icons allow for easy navigation. I love that each icon has the associated training tutorial linked below, so I have a refresher available as needed. This is awesome with a rapidly-growing sales team- I know that they have the tools and support available to them, and I don't have to do as much hand-holding.
  • The integration with Salesforce is awesome. I create a campaign, and the members are then added to any email campaign. The results of the effort sync back to Salesforce automatically.
  • Intellegent workflows- I can set up drip/nurture campaigns easily. Lead scoring is so simple, and my sales team receives alerts when prospects have completed various activities we've flagged as funnel progression. All activity is recorded in the contact/lead record within Salesforce, so we know what content on the website the prospect has consumed, and their participation in email campaigns.
  • Bridgestatz is wonderful as a compliment to Google Analytics! We can see traffic, look up click paths, set alerts and experiment all without risk of compromising our core data.

Cons

  • It is one of the most expensive tools on the market, the price, compared to other similar tools, is very high.
  • It's a little difficult to get accustomed to this software, it looks like it's designed for people that already have experience in the marketing and campaigns space.
  • There are some necessary features, like contacts and sales users limitations, that are only available at higher pricing tiers, despite being already expensive for some of the lower tiers.
Fedor Paretsky profile photo
  • I would like for users to be able to see campaigns and templates created by other non-admin users. I'd like the option as the sysadmin to select which parts of the application should be open to all users, and which I'd like to gate. (Permissions, if you will).
  • Configuration of training materials. The content is great, I just have had difficulty locating the specific article that would be most relevant to the situation. I'd love step-by-step guides for campaign creation, etc.

It's my single biggest asset in my current role. With limited resources, its enabled Anachron to punch well above our weight marketing wise and although we're still at the beginning of our journey I know the system can scale with us

Everything is there, sometimes it just takes a while to realize where it is or just how much the platform can do for you. If you dont use the system everyday it takes a bit of time to remember where you found things. Overall though its pretty easy to figure out

Act-On had a lot of resources, and their staff was great at answering any questions I had to make sure we got started on the right foot. Looking back, I would have preferred some additional training sessions since we didn't have any previous experience with Marketing Automation and best practices.

What impressed me most is that Act-On showed full committment in making our implementation successful, even when it required additional support from their team. This gave me a lot of warm and fuzzy feelings. Most other software software vendors are not anywhere close to being this responsive and effective

Alternatives Considered

HubSpot's pricing tiers are much cheaper in some cases, and they provide some of the tools that are included with Act-On Software's premium tiers. I believe Act-On has more versatility in tracking conversion and other rates out-of-the-box compared HubSpot, which is why we chose Act-On for our production metrics and have continued using their products.

Return on Investment

  • Consistently positive ROI: very specific ROI tracking and successful campaign tracking across various mediums: email, website, etc...
  • Negative: Difficult on-boarding, sometimes seems like UI is outdated, so training first time was quite difficult.
  • Negative: Quite expensive compared to other similar solutions
Fedor Paretsky profile photo
  • Good customer service and allows us to use our leads without much restriction.
  • Price still considered quite high for a very small business like us.
