If you are in a school or have a lots of students to manage. And you need to have a full curriculum represented online, to have the ability to track students' assignments and their grades, Canvas can be a great tool to use. It was easy to be onboard with their customer support. And the productivities can be improved significantly.

TeamViewer

The ability to organize and group remote accessible systems where the agent has been installed coupled with the ability to create customized applications containing the remote access agents that can be white label branded is very powerful. Links can be provided to clients that do not have the agent on their devices and they can quickly and easily install it. The areas where it struggles a bit is with the newer Mac operating systems given all the security barriers Apple has installed requiring the user to perform many complicated steps in order to allow access for TeamViewer, but that is not really a TeamViewer specific problem

  • Canvas has versatility in viewing options for assignment due dates such as the calendar built in feature as well as the dashboard options to display upcoming and due assignments.

  • Whiteboard feature is super effective when we have to explain a problem or illustrate something to the user (both internal and external).
  • Ability to safely and securely connect with the customer system is a big plus. Since the product has been in existence for a really long time, this makes it easier for us to have customers use them without us having to convince them much
  • One great feature is the ability to drag and drop the files from one computer to another while helping someone solve a problem where we need one particular file, you don’t need to waste the time downloading it to his machine or emailing it over. If you have the file, you can copy it over with few clicks.

  • Their integration with Big Blue Button was a bust for distance learning. Would be great to see them collaborate with Zoom or Google Meets.
  • Their "feature request" process is slow and cumbersome at times because it relies on user "up votes" to get ideas addressed by the developers.
  • They seem to have a lot of turn-over with their staff. We get a new Customer Success Manager far more frequently than with other vendors.

  • The software lacks many tools to control the versions of documents you work with during each session, either to review them in case you have lost some information in a past version and need to recover it, or to review changes to create comparisons between one version and another one.
  • The service does not handle contacts either, so you generally have to communicate with them from another platform even though it is in TeamViewer where the maintenance will take place and you have to waste more time even if you are urgent to start the work session.
  • TeamViewer does not have a calendar tool that allows you to make notes about the dates on which maintenance will be performed, or at least to record the dates so as not to cause confusion or organizational errors once the dates are approaching and you have forgotten these dates.

The other LMS tools have fallen behind. One reason is they are not able to update their systems, features, toolsets in a timely manner. While other LMS providers release bug fixes and new features several times a year, schools struggle to install and implement them in a timely manner. It is not uncommon for a school to take 6 months to a year to fully install and implement new releases on other LMS platforms. With Canvas, those features are released every 3 weeks, and there is nothing for a school to do other than choose to turn them on once released. This has allowed Instructure to innovate faster, and get new features and tools to customers quicker. Other factors include great pricing, customer support, and the innovative way in which LTI is implemented in the tool.

The functions in Canvas are well integrated and consistent across the application, and mostly intuitive. Overall navigation and setup is streamlined through integrated features and navigation. The feedback we've gotten from our program participants is that it is easy to learn to use. It also integrates well with third party software like Google Docs and Blackboard Collaborate web conferencing software

I do not have complaints with the product. In fact, TeamViewer is used by some of our support companies (tech support, accounting, software, etc.), and it performs well. It is simply more product than we needed in our application, and more money than we can justify budgeting.

I do not personally use Canvas support since we have a central office that helps us. However, our central office always has the answers we need and are always able to solve our issues - so I would assume that get great support from the Canvas team on their end. They also offer great training, which uses materials directly from Canvas

I have never used the online training either. I have watched a few informational videos that were helpful when learning how to do a specific procedure within TeamViewer and get the most out of the software by utilizing one of the many features that are available with the software. Once you purchase and sign the contract there is nothing to install or hardware to buy. You can almost immediately start using it and have courses up and going within weeks. We signed in December and had pilot courses online ready to go for the start of school in January

Canvas

Canvas provided the most modern UI, which remains intuitive despite holding a significant feature set. The ability to manage a portfolio of online courses through the blueprinting feature really set this apart from our past LMS's, which provided significant cost savings and investment in hiring personnel. Ease of use and mobile friendly approach provided massive advantages that truly shone through as the pandemic hit and all faculty at all of our locations were required to use the LMS significantly. We are incredibly grateful to have been with Canvas during this time.

Because the user can install it from a public site there is very little barrier for users to get remote help, combined with an increase of productivity due to the lack of travel and the costs associated it has been a good value for the company.I would say this is a good option if you are using this with a small team and a lot of end users spread across a large area.

  • Given that I use TeamViewer all day, every day, the ROI is hard to calculate--but the price is incredibly reasonable for what it does. In my opinion, it paid for itself in a week.
  • The business objective behind my use of TeamViewer is simple: the ability to handle all of my day-to-day tasks as if I were sitting at my desk when I am not.
