Scenarios where IBM Cloud Object Storage is not well suited:
* Small teams with small budgets may be better off using open source tools
* Solving niche industry problems that require niche solutions

Evernote

Evernote is great as the digital equivalent of sweeping things under the rug. It's not gone, but not in your face. It's much easier to find later - which makes me feel like I'm cheating at being organized. Evernote is great for plain text or basic text, but formatting and robust documents feel clunky and cause issues - so I usually avoid those types of projects or simply attach a Word document.

Cons

IBM Cloud Object Storage

  • While this platform has been around, it does take some getting used. The interface could be refined. My Firefox Browser automatically closed when selecting some options and creating new objects as an example.
  • The tutorials are a bit outdated in comparison to the screens shown. We understand the system is constantly improving. The tutorials should reflect the changes in the interface.
  • There are many pre-trained models. However, it is not clear as to how those models were trained, what bias may exist in the training data, and how a user could improve those models unless we simply have to build our own.

Evernote

  • The program is more "easy" than the OneNote mentioned, it requires much less operational memory
  • The volume, which is provided for notes, is enough for everything, if not overload with photo and video content
  • Works on all my devices (on a smartphone, laptop, any computer where Google Chrome is installed and I can log in)
  • There is the possibility of limited access to files for other users - for general work. I tested it, but I do not use it - I just do not need it

I can't really imagine how much they'd have to charge me to make me quit Evernote. I can't really think of any technology that has changed my life as much without going back to email in the 90s, or the introduction of the iPhone. I know I sound ridiculous, but it would be really tough for me to live without it. If I were forced to choose between my smart phone (and keep in mind that I get lost in my driveway) and my Evernote, I'd probably choose my Evernote.

  • Basic visual organization - ability to create a notebook and store user notes inside of it.
  • Basic easy navigation - You can quickly move in and out of files and notes.
  • User intuitive addition - whatever you need to add to your document, it's relatively easy to understand and use.
  • We find overall that we still want some functionality in creating better task lists, boards, and other things that we find in Notion - which is the tool that we use as a team notebook/storage space.

I have been working in IT sector for more than 15 years. I have worked with various vendors. IBM's sales team, support team have been really helpful. After we start to use their product, their UX design team also contacted us to get feedback from us. They are really interested about our experience.

I bet you won’t even need to call their support. Their product has never failed me. Simply put. But if you were to email them to gather some details or help, I bet they won’t disappoint you. Don’t worry about the support, it’s the last thing you should worry about this product.

IBM's professional service for migrating data and implementing new cloud environment was perfect. They started to help us before we begin to bring together all data such as how can it could be best to transfer all data without problems. During the migration they watched all the process closely to prevent any failure. Lastly, after the migration, they gave us trainings on implementation.

Make sure you think about your tags. If you end up with multiple similar tags then things aren't grouped together as you might prefer. For instance if you have a tag called Disney and Walt Disney, this will split up your articles. Evernote makes it simple to correct, but I suggest you make sure your users look closely at the existing tags before creating new ones.

Alternatives Considered

IBM Cloud Object Storage

I have evaluated Amazon S3 and Google's Cloud Platform.IBM Cloud Platform is well documented and very integrated with its other range of cloud services. It's quite difficult to differentiate between them all. IBM Cloud Storage is not a service I would have considered on its own merit, but with the power of Watson, which was an absolute pleasure to work with, alongside the cloud server options, I think the IBM cloud ecosystem provides something for everyone.

Evernote

Microsoft OneNote is probably the closest competitor in terms of functionality. However, I so much detest Microsoft products that I would have zero interest in even trying OneNote. I have no reason to try them. If my employer forced me to use OneNote, I wouldn't do it. I would run Evernote on my own device happily.

Return on Investment

IBM Cloud Object Storage

  • Prior to cloud storage, we used on-premises storage devices to store and backup, and sometimes it was a headache to scale up or down the storage according to our needs. With the introduction of Cloud Object Storage, we don't have to worry about scaling.
  • The uptime is also improved a lot after the introduction of Cloud Object Storage in our organization
  • Obviously, it's a very cost-effective way to store and archive data.

Evernote

  • Notes or minutes of the meetings can be shared to the teams in real time and plan of action can be discussed rather than going to and fro in emails.
  • Enhances employee productivity as different people can work on the same document with changes reflecting in real time.
  • Increased employee efficiency as now the project documents can be accessed from any device and even if internet is not available. One can continue to work without the internet connectivity.
