What is Adobe Connect?

Adobe Connect is a web conferencing platform that provides standard features like video, audio, screen-sharing, polls, chat, Q&A, and document transfers, as well as the ability for users to create presentations, online training materials, and learning modules.

The product is entirely Adobe Flash-based and has several add-ons for customizing its software to suit each users’ unique needs. Some extensions that are available include, but are not limited to, Closed Captioning support, Word Cloud (for visualizing live discussions), and MP3 player for adding music to users’ meeting rooms.

Users can create or style their own meeting room layouts which can be saved. They can also add multiple chat pods, polls, quizzes, simulations, breakout rooms, HD video, and games to make meetings and online conferencing more interactive. Additionally, Adobe Connect allows for presenters and hosts to utilize a “virtual backstage” to chat and collaborate outside of the main meeting or conference. It also allows for users to go into a “preparation mode” to make adjustments right before or during a session.

Pricing for Adobe Connect Meetings ranges from $50/mo up to $370/mo. Additional webinar capabilities through Adobe Connect Webinar ranges $140/mo to $580/mo, from a webinar with 100 participants to one with up to 1000 participants.

Adobe Connect was the tool we used because we could record sessions and share files within the meetings themselves. Both Adobe Connect and Google Hangouts allow you to share your screen, but you have to connect with the person on Google Hangouts first. With Adobe Connect, you can simply email a meeting link and password so the person can have access.

Engaging sessions:

If you are looking for an engaging session with loads of interactions and use of features. GoToMeeting/Webinar doesn't cut it as it lacks features, ClickMeeting is a great alternative, WebinarGeek can definitely hold up by is limited to the Dutch language for now.

Sales meeting with potential client:

GoToMeeting is our preferred choice as it is very easy to connect, conduct the presentation, and engage in conversation. The only drawback is that you have to download and install a program, where AdobeConnect is now turning to a cloud based system (was set for release when watching a release webinar).

Statistics and Customisation:

ClickMeeting is by far the most flexible in terms of providing statistics on users and production of a report on the event. It can also be tailored to be branded with a small fee.

Price:

WebinarGeeks is the tool that provides best value for money. The testing was a little more cumbersome due to my lack of Dutch; where a colleague had to help me a lot. ClickMeeting would be the second choice for price.

Adobe Connect offers best visual appearance and user accessibility other than the fact that is uses Adobe Flash which some web browsers have threatened to ban. I really miss the persistent meeting rooms of Adobe Connect Meeting and as a meeting host this is the very best system for program management and consistency. Being able to record a live meeting and create a learning object from the recording in Connect Training was very elegant and again, very accessible for the learner. In many ways Connect provided the most attractive and satisfying user experience, but also was lacking in some of the sophisticating reporting features of products like GoToWebinar.

RVIBE is platform agnostic so we know and use any and all virtual platforms depending on our clients requirements. Platforms like WebEx, GoToMeeting, Zoom, Blue Jeans, On24, Skype, Google Hangouts, Lync, Wiggio, ect all have similar options and their own niches in the virtual platform space but if you are serious about Virtual Instructor Led Training or highly engaging webinars Adobe Connect is RVIBE's choice.

I've worked for several conferencing companies and have supported a lot of online products. I've talked a lot about what Adobe Connect does well and not so well in this review, but the customization and flexibility you get with Adobe Connect is the main reason I find it to be the best collaboration technology out there. I can completely brand and customize my meeting room to use only the features that I need. I can turn on/off any feature with a simple mouse click. I can prepapre several different layouts to quickly change the look and function of my virtual meeting room. Adobe Connect also allows developers to create functionality that doesn't come out of the box. You can create custom .swf files that are like apps for your meeting room and they add both functionality and fun into the Adobe Connect experience. Third party developers have created custom .swf files for closed captioning, rock paper scissors, Jeopardy style trivia games, countdown timers, clocks, mp3 players and much more. Adobe Connect goes way beyond just screen sharing.

In the past, I have had experience with Wimba and with GoTo Meeting for virtual sessions. Both posed many technological issues that are not as prevalent with Adobe Connect. Adobe Connect is far superior in the ability to share content, files and screens to give participants real-time support and information. Adobe Connect has features that allows for clarity, engagement activities and chat options to ensure participants have the information they need and a voice that can be heard.

Adobe should stick to the creation of multimedia. They venture into online collaborative applications doesn't work for me. For some reason, corporations think they need to have their hand in everything. It seems the mantra is let's be mediocre at everything rather than really good at one or two things.

Adobe Connect is the best choice for our needs because of it's highly customizable nature and ease of use. I would currently recommend it over its competitors if price is no issue. Breakout rooms in particular are an excellent feature that I have not seen done well on other software. However, if you do not need all of the features, a cheaper program may be a better option. ReadyTalk is a versatile program with excellent customer service and WebEx is another viable alternative with similar tools to what Adobe Connect offers.

While this is different for every business, for us it was the tracking, reporting, and content management that offered us what we needed initially. We also needed the flexibility of integrating telephony services later on. We also liked that we could add additional seat licenses as the usage grew over time. In addition, once we decided to use Adobe Connect with our LMS, we found it to integrate well with our other technologies and processes.

  • WebEx Meetings,GoToMeeting
Adobe Connect is deeper, more engaging, easier to use, and just works a lot better. It also serves many use cases, whereas WebEx and GoTo require you to purchase different product so serve different use cases. WebEx licensing can be painful, as they often try to make you purchase the product for the whole organization, incurring unnecessary cost. GoTo product often have performance issues that make you regret that you bought something so cheap.

  • WebEx Meetings,Blackboard
I have used other products similar to Adobe Connect, but most had limitations that prevented it from being a good solution for our needs. Other virtual solutions, such as WebEx Meetings, are intended to facilitate meetings and do not have the number of sophisticated features that encourage engagement for a large audience. Blackboard and Wimba Classroom is intended for an educational setting, but does not cater as well to rapid deployment for a business environment.

We looked at GoToMeeting and WebEx, and for our size and the number of sessions we do, they did not make as much sense financially. Although Adobe Connect may seem like it requires a lot of money up front, the others make up for it in the end because of additional charges for meetings over a certain size, etc. We also preferred the interface of Adobe Connect as well as the high-quality recordings and server storage.

Adobe's maid advantage over WebEx is having a prebuilt room and the same URL. So, if I have to reschedule or cancel a meeting, when I re send the invite the link is the same. With WebEx, if you launch a room you cannot reuse it.

We found that WebEx was 'flat' when it came to training for extended periods of time. Deeper interactions created by AC with the course content, the instructors and, ultimately, with the students creates a successful class. A successful class means students that have been exposed to (in our case) intensely complex & technical content that wasn't hampered by stupid technical failures & lack of features. For example: in WebEx, when the Host dropped off, the classroom would get torn-down with it. It was a mad-scramble to get the classroom back up, and somehow notify the attendees that they can 'dial back in', etc. Additionally, the WebEx 'cloud' for course content storage & subsequent access wasn't as rich, or as flexible as AC's, and we found that our CDT release management team couldn't integrate their processes easily with WebEx, and therefore we regularly ran into inconsistencies in versions delivered.

Adobe is more robust and more easily able to handle the needs of virtual classrooms and meetings spaces. It handles many file types easily and nicely. I've seen lots of meeting software not function like we'd hoped. Lots of meeting hosts filling the gaps using an online meeting space can create with jokes and cleaver conversation. When I run Adobe Connect according to Adobes best practices things work nicely and reliably.

I have used WebX sites and others I do not recall. Adobe is easier to use, less complex, are not as many steps to follow just to get set up, don't require accounts to be created for our users (Enter as Guest feature is huge).
